General purpose: Student Technician helps with the day to day operation of the Ceramics Studio, usually in one area of the studio based on experience and schedule.
Summary of Essential Functions
- Maintain material supplies
- Maintain studio standards of health and safety
- Maintain workflow through the firing process
- Mix shop clay
- Mix shop glazes
- Unload and load kilns
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Knowledge of: ceramic materials and processes
- Skills: cleaning and organizational skills
- Ability to: follow directions, be punctual and dependable
- Currently enrolled MICA student
- Have completed CE200 or CE201
- Ceramic experience from another institution is also applicable
- Ceramics 300 level class
- May need to lift 50lbs
- May require PPE (environment is dusty)
- May require working outside and or at extreme temperatures
- Be trained on working with several types of machines not limited to clay mixers, kilns, power tools etc.
- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (may be adjusted depending on position)
- Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. The working environment can be dirty and dusty.

+ A minimum of five (5) years of supervisory and/or leadership experience in a related field is required.

Studio classes typically meet for three hours a day, two days a week, over a 14-week semester. Studio courses have an average enrollment of 15 students per class.

+ Lead and conduct basic and applied research in processes and technology for advanced ceramics of interest to GE Aerospace and external funding agencies

Job Description
The MST-8 Materials Science and Technology group at Los Alamos National Laboratory has great opportunities for post doc candidates to join our team in the field of materials modeling, particularly meso-scale modeling of plasticity and damage of heterogenous crystalline metals.
The successful candidate will join the 'Dynamic and Quasi-static loading - modeling (DQSLM)' team within the MST-8 group. The DQSLM team focuses on the development and use of advanced computational mechanics models to predict the effects of extreme and complex environments on both mechanical response and microstructure evolution in materials. The environments considered include high stresses, temperatures, radiation, etc. The DQSLM team adopts both hierarchical and integrated multiscale modeling and characterization strategies for mechanical deformation problems in the Material Science and Technology division.
The successful candidate will lead the development of mechanistic based constitutive models for advanced metallic materials and ceramic composites. Advanced knowledge of defect theory (e.g. dislocations, point defects) is required as the work will focus on micron-scale modeling of metals and ceramics. A strong background in mechanical homogenization method (mean-field, full-field) will also be preferable.
**What You Need**
Minimum Job Requirements:
+ Experience in modeling and simulations using crystal plasticity approaches or in rate theory/cluster dynamics methods.
+ Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research.
+ Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills.

**FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT**
The Department of Art & Art History at Hunter College welcomes applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track position in Studio Art with a focus on Ceramics to start fall 2026. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of the histories and cultural practices that inform contemporary art practice, as well as a demonstrated understanding of various traditional and contemporary aspects of three-dimensional making. Successful applicants will share the program's commitment to pedagogical diversity and experimentation.
Responsibilities include ongoing creative research; graduate teaching and advising in Hunter's nationally recognized MFA program; and teaching the college's diverse undergraduate population in the beginning and advanced courses in Ceramics. Active participation in the administrative operations of the department, including serving as faculty area head overseeing the undergraduate and graduate Ceramics studios is a requirement.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
An MFA degree is required. Qualified candidates must have an active practice and demonstrable professional accomplishments and/or exhibition record, as well as college level teaching experience beyond graduate teaching assistantships on both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should be willing and able to teach in conjunction with curatorial initiatives.
**COMPENSATION**
Compensation is commensurate with experience, within the approved range of $87,978 - $05,593 (4/24 contract).
