Cerner Application Engineering Specialist
**Position Summary**
At Stony Brook Medicine the Cerner Application Engineering Specialist is a valuable member of our team who will develop and support all applications/systems that the Stony Brook Medicine Innovation team is responsible for. The incumbent may be assigned to a project team as part of technical build resource, or support any production systems to ensure the availability of the applications. The Cerner Application Engineering Specialist may also oversee the work of other analysts as needed.
The **Cerner Application Engineering Specialist** will be responsible for custom build in Cerner Millennium, and also investigating and resolving Cerner application issues using core Cerner tools such as Olympus, Bedrock, Discern, Core Code Builder, Core Event Manager, and Ops View Scheduler. Daily responsibilities will include researching and building new functionality as needed, working with clinical end users and the vendor to determine the best and most innovative solutions.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior analytical skills and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
**Duties of a Cerner Application Engineering Specialist may include the following but are not limited to:**
+ Provides support to Clinical Information systems applications which includes our organization's EHR and cross applications used in the clinical setting
+ Provides technical and strategic input to leadership, reviews, analyzes and implements change/enhancement requests to help drive transformational changes.
+ Plays an active role as a technical expert during application development and participates in brainstorming and design discussions with team members which includes participation in new projects when appropriate.
+ Provides technical guidance and performs investigation to help resolve application issues including cross application challenges in order to maintain stability and reliability of all systems.
+ Works closely with Project Managers on all aspects of project development and keeps management informed of project status.
+ Provides assistance in testing system functionality as well as validating application integrity to ensure that current and new applications are technically sound
+ Participates in Cerner application upgrades and implementations.
+ Debug system problems as needed (his/her own, as well as programs written by others).
+ Participates in all global and departmental process and system design activities
+ Adheres to coding guidelines and standards of Information technology and documents all work according to standards
+ Adheres to customer service standards.
+ Provide on-call/recall support.
+ Provides reporting needs when necessary.
+ Develop, modify and maintain Cerner CCL reports and data extracts
+ Develop, modify and maintain custom mPages
+ Create efficient and maintainable code.
+ Analyze requests for new reports and mPages, and make recommendations related to best practices
+ Development and maintenance of Cerner Interfaces & other types of Integrations

**Qualifications**
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information systems or related field
+ Minimum four (4) years of IT experience in a complex IT environment supporting and implementing applications in a client server environment
+ IT related experience that demonstrates a thorough understanding of the standard tools, workflow processes, and/or procedures and concepts used in the deployment and development of application software necessary to run the healthcare systems business, clinical or financial systems.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ 6-8 years of experience as a Healthcare IT Analyst

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is a seasoned expert that demonstrates a high degree of technical knowledge for infrastructure and communications processes and supports system defined objectives relative to the company's business and healthcare requirements. Assumes the role of project leader for large scale projects to lead, plan, design, implement and support Information Technology infrastructure, networks, hardware and applications.

Provides recommendations to individuals and teams on ways to improve performance and meet defined objectives. Monitors and provides feedback on individual and team performance against defined standards.
2. Technology Standards: Leads, plans, prioritizes and coordinates scheduled projects that require interaction between various customer and Information Technology departments and hardware/software vendors. Develops well defined project plans, work schedules and critical path timelines. Monitor all installed systems and infrastructure in line with company guidelines or SOP (Standard Operating Procedure). Compiles professional, well thought out designs to very complex technical processes for presentation to Senior Level Management. Conduct high-level root cause analysis for service interruption and establish preventive measures; may require collaboration with software vendor.
Clearly document the design, maintenance and support procedures, creating comprehensive technical documents to include process maps, Business Requirement Documents, system diagrams, application maps, test plans, work instructions, etc. Stores documents in central location for broader IT access. Develops and consistently updates fully integrated testing scenarios. Provides information to be incorporated as part of the comprehensive functional and integration testing plans. Responsible for providing technical expertise and resolution to complex and multifaceted problems for customers residing in a variety of departments. Coordinates change management documentation and ensures that approvals are managed according to departmental procedures and ITIL standards.

9. This position has responsibility for selected infrastructure applications or systems. The incumbent has minor level decision-making authority for projects, coding, and applications and works at peer level. The incumbent participates in meetings, presentations, visioning sessions, planning sessions, implementation activities, and supports functions system wide.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a strong knowledge of technology as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
Certain assignments require certification or credentialing in designated area.
Must also have four to seven years' experience in a healthcare environment or an equivalent combination of relevant education, technical, business and healthcare experience.
Must demonstrate general knowledge of information technology and healthcare. Needs experience in medium scale project planning and reporting either individual or team. Requires communication and presentation skills to engage technical and non-technical audiences. Requires ability to communicate and interact across facilities and at various levels. Incumbent will have skills to mentor less experienced team members.
As is typical in this industry, variable shifts and hours and carrying/responding to a pager may be required.

Community Health Systems is hiring a Senior Cerner Application Analyst- Pathology to join our EHR Team. This role will help implement, manage, and modernize the Cerner Laboratory Application. As a Senior Analyst, you will consult on comprehensive service line workflows, including current state and future state, and work with clients to map out stop-start-continue processes to determine how the system will be designed and tested while adhering to the CHS Standard. + Identify, resolve and report solution status, risks, and issues to client and project leadership, coach on data collection and system design requirements and analyze to determine optimal solution build and implementation.
