As a Data Privacy Scientist at HealthVerity, you will be at the forefront of protecting patient privacy while enabling data innovation. Working across the organization, you'll own and lead the identification of privacy risks and opportunities in how healthcare data is aggregated and used. What you will do
- Serve as a healthcare privacy subject matter expert, providing strategic and technical guidance across the company and client projects
- Quantify and mitigate privacy risks in large, complex datasets using statistical modeling
- Design privacy-preserving frameworks (e.g., k-anonymity, k-concealment, l-diversity) to de-identify integrated healthcare and non-standard data
- Partner with internal teams and external partners to create, amend, and operationalize Expert Determinations
- Work closely with statisticians and privacy experts to maintain HIPAA and industry certifications
- Collaborate with engineers to integrate privacy protocols into production systems
- Build tools and algorithms that ensure scalable, automated privacy enforcement across big data pipelines
- Prototype and develop features for SaaS and DaaS products related to privacy, including data classification, anomaly detection, and data discovery
- Represent HealthVerity in the broader privacy community through publications, conferences, and thought leadership
Success in this role means enabling HealthVerity and its partners to use data confidently within privacy frameworks by leading the creation, adaptation, and execution of Expert Determinations. You'll be expected to:
- Deliver new or amended certifications within a three-month target
- Advise internal teams and partners on privacy requirements and solutions
- Build scalable tools that automate compliance and detect violations
- Operate independently on privacy initiatives and provide trusted expertise
- Contribute to product development around data privacy and classification
- Elevate HealthVerity's presence in the privacy community through thought leadership
Required skills and experience
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations, privacy frameworks, and de-identification techniques
- M.S. in Computer Science, Statistics, Math, or a related field, or B.S. with 5+ years of relevant experience
- Expertise in statistical modeling, information theory, and risk quantification
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, or Python
- Experience building scalable models and tools that work in production environments
- Ability to independently manage privacy determinations and build automation around privacy transformations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with encryption, secure multiparty computation, and probabilistic AI
- Experience with data transformation pipelines, privacy UDFs, and data quality enforcement tools
- Contributions to the privacy community through research, presentations or publications
Hiring Locations
Our main office is located in Center City, Philadelphia, where we operate on a hybrid model with in-office work required three days a week for local employees. We believe collaboration is most effective when teams come together, which is why we prioritize hiring in the Philadelphia area.
For certain roles, we also hire from hub locations -regions where we have an established presence with multiple team members working remotely. While these employees primarily work from home, we bring them together in person at lease once a year for team-building, collaboration, and strategic planning.

Define and execute work plans, including leading the reviews for applicability of PIAs on new funding requests that involve personal data; reviewing and providing a decision to the requestors; leading the Cookie Compliance module implementation and maintenance in OneTrust; and understanding business needs, developing processes that aid compliance, and maintaining SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) documentation to interpret, differentiate and resolve gaps in the cookie scans of websites. Manage the project, tasks, and resources, including owning the PIA module in OneTrust as its primary owner; understanding business needs for any changes in the PIA processes, defining and executing work plans to configure and test changes in the OneTrust tool, planning for rollout, and providing post go-live support. Maintain the project rigor/communication and update tasks in respective tools, including supervising newly submitted IT projects for the applicability of PIAs and working with project leaders to have PIAs submitted; maintaining the rigor of timely communications; monitoring, tracking, and reporting PIA completion metrics; following-up with IT and business respondents using reminders where needed; and ensuring system availability and reliability by troubleshooting and resolving issues related to the PIA module.

Qualifications / Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology Management, or a related field;
+ 3 years of experience in a related occupation;
+ 3 years of experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting the OneTrust data privacy platform, including the Data Subject Requests Handling and Integrations modules;
+ 3 years of experience supporting a user base of a minimum of 20 users on the OneTrust platform;
+ 2 years of experience with software development, testing, and rollout using Python, Java, CSS, and REST APIs (Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interfaces);
+ 2 years of experience with AWS (Amazon Web Services) Lambda and GCP (Google Cloud Platform) Cloud Functions;
+ 2 years of experience with Code Management technology and Deployment technology; and
