Your Role on the Team
Position Summary:
The incumbent plays an integral role in the implementation of Medical Center wide risk management and loss-prevention programs that identify, promote and sustain patient safety from a risk perspective. Conducts thorough investigations of adverse patient events/outcomes, makes recommendations for programmatic changes, and implements such changes throughout the Medical Center. Develops educational plans and/or delivers training designed to enhance patient safety and risk reduction. Provides consultation in the areas of patient safety and risk mitigation.

A Day In The Life
The Director of Risk Management under the leadership of USAL's President is responsible for creating and overseeing the organization's risk management strategy. This includes ensuring regulatory compliance, leading safety training programs, managing accident investigations, and responding to emergencies. The role involves leveraging data and technology to improve risk management, overseeing fleet safety, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The Director will also handle litigation related to risk management, lead disaster recovery and ergonomics initiatives, and collaborate with stakeholders to improve safety and performance standards. As a Director, Risk Management you will:
- Risk Management Strategy: Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive risk management strategy, including driver training, regulatory compliance, cargo securement, and event recorder management.
- Leadership and Team Development: Lead and develop a team to support the organization's risk management efforts, ensuring all claims and accidents are properly investigated and reported.

- Perform key administrative functions to increase the productivity of the department such as but not limited to: process all invoices in a timely/accurate and complete manner, check invoices against approved charges, track invoices both manually and online, work closely with Accounts Payable to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Develop and maintain schedules to reflect causation, amounts, and allocation for various safety issues.
- Support the quarterly actuarial analysis and to maintain SOX compliance, review of loss runs for all lines of insurance.
- Use sound judgment to analyze and develop risk reducing recommendations based on technical skills and experience.

- Handle recovery for claims including: collecting and gathering all related documents, reviewing insurance policies, calculating the value of the claim, submitting relevant supports, and negotiating a settlement with the insurance company.
- Review incident reports, water intrusion projects, and other incidents to determine the risk and take steps to mitigate damages. As a part of the review, confirm a claim is filed if there is a recoverable loss.
- Professionally handle requests and work with internal employees and departments relating to company policies, litigation, insurance, and claims.
- Organize and maintain records for insurance policies, claims, and litigation
- Prepare On-Site teams for Small Claims hearings including, reviewing, organizing, and preparing evidence, meeting with the teams to discuss the strategy, and document the complaint and resolutions.
- Review insurance compliance requests and insurance policies for third-party vendors through online software and help determine solutions for compliance.
- Use analytical tools (Excel, dashboards, risk software) and project management methodology and tools.
- Analyze data and review risk trends and preventative measures relating to risk.
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of industry practices, standards, and changes to stay proactive and take preventative measures relating to risk.
Qualifications
- Requires minimum 2-3 years' experience in Insurance Claims Administration and/or Risk Prevention or other related experience.
- Must be detail oriented and able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
- Must possess good analytical, oral, and written communication skills and coordinate many simultaneous activities.
- Prefer experience in multi-family or real estate.

The Credit and Financial Risk Management (CFRM) Risk Office is seeking a highly motivated Risk Advisor, ready to apply their analytical, risk, communication, and project management skills. In this role you will contribute to CFRMs overarching risk management strategy by supporting teams through ongoing regulatory engagements and audits, providing counsel and thought leadership, and driving execution. You will also be responsible for helping identify any issues related to CFRMs governance and oversight processes, and for providing advice on how to address those issues.
As a key partner, you will work with the various leaders across CFRM and the Business Units. Through your work, you will gain a broad, general understanding of how Capital One manages model, data, and technology risks. You will also gain deeper knowledge in the specific areas of CFRM risk management focus, including credit risk, market and liquidity risk, and model risk. At the same time, you will exercise your skills in analytic rigor, problem solving and strategic thinking. Our ideal candidate will be a self motivated risk professional with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Understand CFRMs strategy and contribute to its evolution over time; understand how CFRM executes its responsibilities and help CFRM effectively communicate those activities;
- Support CFRM through ongoing supervision and routine regulatory engagements by providing counsel and thought partnership;
- Manage internal audits and regulatory exams directed to and/or impacting CFRM;
- Facilitate and lead risk assessments and related activities (Critical Business Process Identification, Process Level Assessments, Risk and Control Self-Assessments, Control Testing etc), which include providing advice and challenge and driving outcomes;
- Remain current on the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to overall Risk Management
- Leverage industry benchmarking and best practices to provide thought leadership and guidance to executives and their teams on sound risk management practices;
- Analyze data to proactively identify risks, trends, and process improvements;
- Effectively collaborate with executives, business stakeholders and other risk management professionals across all three lines of defense (e.g. Business Risk Office Partners; Audit; Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)) through various risk programs and engagements;
- Monitor issue remediation, tracking, and closure
- Set direction, manage expectations and indirectly lead cross-functional teams
- Escalate and report critical issues and risks to the Risk Management Business Risk Office and ERM Leadership team
- Manage and oversee special projects and engagements in collaboration with the overall Risk Management Leadership

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $146,100 - $66,700 for Risk Manager
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidates offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.

Please note that this position is contingent upon contract award. This position may be located in Quantico, VA, Hanover, MD, or Huntsville, AL. The Contractor shall apply sound program practices to establish and maintain consistency of a product or systems attributes with its requirements and evolving technical baseline over its life during contract performance of this PWS. The Government will provide an established workflow in which the Contractor shall support in line with the tasks below. It involves interaction among Government and contractor program functions such as systems engineering, hardware/software engineering, specialty engineering, logistics, contracting, and production in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment. The Contractor shall:
- Determine the probability of risks and their impact
- Assess the risk likelihood of adversely affecting the operational environment and the impact of implementing changes
- Identify ways to reduce risks
- Ensure completeness, consistency, mitigations, and correctness of associated risks
- Prioritize risk reduction measures
- Continuously monitor and report risk factors
- Control storage, handling, and delivery of the risk
- Organize the activities necessary to maintain product integrity
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college. Must have and maintain an active DoD Top Secret/SCI level clearance. Minimum 7 years of experience in a similar role. Risk Management Lead is required to meet DD8140/DoD -M IAM Level III requirements prior to onboarding; knowledge of Zero Trust principles and target activity (aligned with DoD ZT Reference Architecture).
