CLA is looking for a highly motivated Controller with experience in the State & Local Government/Charter School Industry, to join our Client Accounting & Advisory Services (CAAS) group in Los Angeles, CA. Our CAAS team provides accounting, finance and treasury services to local towns, cities and school districts.
As a Controller you will:- Act as the Controller for the designated clients you service.
- Take on the role of consultant and advisor to your clients on best practices for accounting and finance-related engagements.
- Provide project management expertise by managing multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
- Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
- Foster and build opportunities for our clients, communities, and people.

- Maintain knowledge of the client's organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
Job Requirements:
- Experience: 6 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required. Relevant experience in State & Local Government working with Charter Schools, is highly preferred.
- Education: Bachelor's degree required (preferably in Accounting, Finance, or related field). A combination of education, training and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
- Certifications/Licenses: CPA is preferred, but not required.
- Technical Competencies: Maintains knowledge of client's organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of accounting software packages. Maintains accounting technical knowledge related to the industry.
- Travel: This position requires frequent local travel to/from client sites and may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.
The wage range for this position is: $112,700.00 $171,000.00. Factors such as geography, experience, education, skills, and knowledge may impact position of pay within the range.

This full-time, in-person position, based on the Big Rapids campus, is responsible for monitoring and evaluating the academic and contractual performance of the Universitys 23 authorized public-school academies.
The Associate Director will collaborate with Charter Schools Office (CSO) staff to establish academic performance goals, develop assessment and monitoring strategies, and implement data-driven reporting methods to ensure transparency and continuous improvement. This position will be responsible for coordinating reporting processes aligned with state and national accreditation requirements. The role also includes regular in-state travel to meet with academy leadership, support student success initiatives, promote dual enrollment opportunities, and strengthen partnerships that connect charter schools with Ferris to help increase university enrollment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including school leaders, boards, and community members. This position requires sound critical thinking, the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines, and a high degree of professionalism when navigating complex or sensitive situations. Experience working collaboratively with individuals from varied backgrounds.
The anticipated start date for this position is August 2025. However, this is an estimated date and can be revised if needed. Position Type: Staff Required Education: Masters degree in educational field. Required Work Experience: Five years in school leadership role; demonstrated successful experience with managerial and organizational responsibilities in K-12 education.

Experience working with charter schools. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Represent the University in official charter school functions and provide guidance to the Charter Schools Office (CSO) in the Directors absence or as assigned.
- Supervise, train, and support assigned CSO staff, ensuring compliance with Ferris State University (FSU) policies and applicable laws.
- Assist in setting and implementing departmental goals aligned with the CSO strategic plan.
- Be familiar with academy performance using CSO School Support protocols and collaborate on strategic interventions for schools in need of support.
- Lead the team responsible for accreditation, including continuous improvement planning and the MDE Assurances Audit process.
- Participate in meetings and updates with school improvement teams and the MDE regarding accountability initiatives.
- Participate in charter application reviews, mid-contract reviews, and reauthorization site visits.
- Coordinate the collection and analysis of data for oversight and reporting, including the Contract Performance Reports, Authorizer Accountability Report, and Annual Portfolio Report.
- Assist in the creation of professional development programs for CSO staff, Academy Boards, and academy personnel.
- Make presentations to academy Boards and local, state, or national organizations as appropriate.
- Travel to FSU-authorized academies and work extended or varied hours as needed to represent the CSO.
- Operates university motor or personal vehicles safely while carrying out job responsibilities.
- Maintain strong partnerships with internal FSU departments and external organizations such as the Michigan Council of Charter School Authorizers (MCCSA) and the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with FSU-authorized academies, including Boards of Directors, administrative staff, and educational service providers, as appropriate.
- Support initiatives that strengthen academy partnerships, promote dual enrollment, and increase Ferris student enrollment and retention, including statewide student success hubs.
- Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
- Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty and staff to thrive authentically.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold University and departmental standards.
- Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the executive leader of River Charter Schools (RCS), overseeing and enhancing all operational functions to ensure the organization delivers outstanding performance while maintaining financial sustainability. The ED leads central office teams across human resources, data, technology, operations, leadership development, and academic management. This role also plays a critical part in shaping and executing the organization’s long-term strategic vision, ensuring alignment with RCS's mission, values, and commitment to equity and transparency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The ED shall perform the duties prescribed by the laws of the State of California and Board policy. The ED shall implement all Board decisions and shall have primary responsibility for making recommendations to the Board regarding matters in finance, human resources, operations, and contracting.
Budget & Financial Oversight
- Manage annual operating and capital budgets totaling between ten and fifteen million dollars.
- Support the Special Education Coordinator, and school principals in budget development and financial monitoring.
- Ensure all fiscal operations are aligned with internal policies and long-term financial health.
Organizational Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the central cabinet, actively contributing to strategic planning and execution.
- Guide the continuous improvement of support systems and communication across schools.
- Foster a high-performance culture through strong recruitment, training, and retention strategies.
- Support school principals and act as a key contact for addressing operational needs.
Central Operations
- Supervise and support the home office staff in delivering high-quality, compliant services including procurement and vendor management.
- Lead the implementation of continuous improvement processes across the organization.
- Facilitate regular opportunities for staff feedback to enhance operational effectiveness.
Governance & Board Relations
- Facilitate meetings of the Board of Directors and present regular updates on organizational progress.
- Maintain and update Board policies to ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws.
- Serve as a key advisor to the Board on finance, operations, and human resources matters.
Compliance & Governance
- Participate as a cabinet-level member of the River Charter Schools Leadership Team, contributing to system-wide policies and initiatives.
- Ensure that site operations adhere to the school’s charter, RCS policies, safety procedures, and applicable statutes and regulations.
- Maintain transparency and accountability through clear communication and effective reporting.

Essential Knowledge & Competence
- Deep understanding of public education operations, with emphasis on charter school governance, compliance, and finance.
- Knowledge of TK–8 educational systems, enrollment strategies, and academic operations.
- Proficiency in organizational performance metrics, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of California education laws, public meeting regulations (e.g., Brown Act), and board governance standards.
- Competence in human resources leadership, including workforce development, staff
- engagement, and policy implementation.
- Familiarity with procurement practices, vendor management, and resource optimization within a nonprofit or educational setting.
Education, Training, & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Education, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in operational management in the Education environment.
- Experience working in or with charter schools is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with school-based operational structures strongly preferred.
Travel & Work Conditions
- Hybrid role with regular travel to River Charter Schools and within the broader community.
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Decision-Making Authority
- In accordance with policies of the Board, the ED shall have power within the limits of major appropriations approved by the Board to approve and direct all purchases and expenditures.
- The ED shall have the power to enter into any contracts on behalf of the Governing Board (Education Code 35035). The Governing Board shall delegate this power to the ED by a majority vote. (Education Code 39656).
Benefits
This position offers a competitive salary range of $150,000 to $180,000, commensurate with experience. The benefits package includes medical, dental, 12 paid sick days, a 210-day contract, and participation in the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS). We now need a results-driven Lead to join our Renovations and Facilities Team . Reporting to the Head of Renovations and Facilities , the Lead will lead and oversee the management, maintenance, and renovation of facilities across the Success Academy Charter School Network. This role will involve managing multiple building managers, leading key initiatives, and ensuring optimal facility operations. Duties and Responsibilities: Leadership and Management Supervise and mentor building managers across multiple sites Develop and implement facilities management policies and procedures Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to staff Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the facilities team Renovations and Projects Plan, manage, and execute renovation projects within budget and timeline Coordinate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders Ensure compliance with building codes and safety regulations Develop and maintain project documentation Operations and Maintenance Oversee routine maintenance and repairs of facilities Implement preventative maintenance programs Manage vendor relationships and contracts Ensure efficient use of resources and budget Strategic Planning Develop long-term facility plans aligned with the network's strategic goals Identify and implement cost-saving measures Stay updated with industry trends and best practices Prepare and present reports on facility performance and projects Qualifications: Education and Experience At least 5-7 years of experience managing service providers in real estate, architecture, construction, facilities, procurement, or a related industry Prior experience managing multiple complex projects with unwavering deadlines Proven ability to successfully lead teams In-depth knowledge of the design process, construction & building principles and practices Ability to collect and analyze data and leverage the Adobe Creative Suite and other software applications to create visual and graphic displays Demonstrated a high level of performance in project budgeting, contract negotiations, and scheduling Ability to swiftly act in an environment of change and ambiguity, while partnering with the necessary stakeholders and managing communication and change management Direct experience working with governmental partners such as the Department of Education (Division of School Facilities), the School Construction Authority, the Department of Buildings, and the Department of Transportation Ability to successfully develop project plans that forecast challenges and reflect a strong understanding of SA’s operational school model Demonstrated a high level of performance in project budgeting, contract negotiations, and scheduling.Ability to swiftly take action in an environment of change and ambiguity, while partnering with the necessary stakeholders and managing communication and change management Experience balancing competing demands and priorities in planning, managing, and executing key facilities issues Skills Strong leadership and management skills Excellent project management abilities Knowledge of building codes and regulations Budgeting and financial management skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills Compensation Range Annual Salary: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 Exact Compensation May Vary Based On Skills And Experience.
