Job Duties:

Provides day-to-day technical supervision of testing personnel ensuring the proper performance of all laboratory procedures and report of test results. Promotes standardization through collaboration and coordination within a specialty.
  • Performs technical duties and provides technical knowledge and support to staff and clients within a department of responsibility.
  • Analyzes technical problems and resolves in accordance with established laboratory policies.
  • Reviews test results, quality control records, proficiency testing results and preventative maintenance records.
  • Ensures that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems and Quality Assurance deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Collaborates the planning of capital purchases and leases with the appropriate section Doctoral Director and Operations Director.
  • Participates with the Director and other system colleagues in the development of new testing, validation and evaluation of new equipment, reagents, instrumentation and technologies.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and ensures that compliance of standards is maintained.
  • Participates in the analysis of cost for materials and negotiation of contracts to obtain favorable prices.
  • Responsible for section purchasing, receiving, and inventory management to reduce costs.
  • Accepts responsibility for effective cost accounting and cost management.
  • Maintains adequate supply inventory.
  • Participates in and coordinates the development of policy and procedure manuals with doctoral director and system colleagues.
  • Assures timely and regular review of procedure manuals.
  • Provides orientation to all new employees and identifies training needs and ensures that employees receive appropriate in-service training and education for their job responsibilities.
  • Continually evaluates monitors and documents the performance of competency of each employee.
  • Participates in annual performance appraisals.
  • Collaborates with their specialty specific colleagues at other lab locations to assure standardization system-wide.
  • Member of the Best Practice Committee for their area of responsibility.
  • Encourages and engages in a service-oriented behavior designed to support and meet the needs of our various clients.
  • Provides timely consultations and takes prompt action to correct problems and issues.
  • Participates in educational and training activities to acquire new skills and maintain current proficiency.

Join our Automated Chemistry team at Geisinger Medical Center! We are a CAP-accredited laboratory looking for an Analytical Specialist with experience in chemistry to be part of our clinical team.

Our ideal candidate will have experience in automated chemistry including maintenance, troubleshooting and an advanced understanding of quality control. Experience with Roche Cobas analyzers and Unity a plus.

As an Analytical Specialist you will provide day to day technical supervision of the department ensuring proper performance of all laboratory procedures and reporting of test results. With state-of-the-art analyzers and a broad test menu, you will share the regulatory responsibilities of this robust testing area with a partner.

Tuition reimbursement is available for all full-time employees for job-related undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs.

Minimum 5 years of experience as a medical laboratory scientist required.

Strong chemistry background required. Must have relevant bachelor's degree (BSMT or BSMLS preferred; ASCP required if not a holder of BSMT or BSMLS degree).

Job Summary

Facilitates the programmatic operations of the undergraduate programs in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Assists the Chair/Associate Chair in preparing and maintaining class schedules in in the system (ensuring accuracy of the entries). Arranges the department classroom needs for events and courses at both
undergraduate and graduate levels. Supervises textbook orders and maintain a waiting list for scheduled courses. Serves as liaison for the College's advising and student success team, ensuring all undergraduate student needs are met in a timely manner. Completes travel and expense reports for graduate and undergraduate students.

  • Assists in coordinating the programmatic day to day operations of the Undergraduate programs. Serves as the primary contact for course registrations.
  • Assists Chair/Associate Chair in preparing each semester's class schedule and is responsible for corrections and changes in the schedule and classroom and checking for accuracy. Supervises textbook orders and inputs into system each semester.
  • Maintains waiting list for scheduled courses, verify pre-requisites for students unable to enroll in courses. Distribute permissions to students who meet requirements for a course but are unable to register themselves due to pre-requisite issues. Maintains knowledge of FERPA as it relates to the confidentiality of student records. Maintains a broad knowledge of enrollment services policies, processes, and procedures within the University. Communicates with students via phone and e-mail messages.
  • Acts as liaison with College's Students Advising Team regarding student needs. Maintains and distributes information related to student career preparation and opportunities. Assists faculty in organizing students career events.
  • Acts as back-up for the Office Specialist during their absence.
  • Assists in organizing departmental events, meetings, conferences. Arranges the department classroom needs for events and courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Completes travel and expense reports for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Serves as the University's credit card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University's credit card policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of office or related experience coordinating functions of an office or department.

Senior professional managing complex processes with general oversight. Performs a variety of duties in the mechanical and chemistry areas of the Camden Materials and Process Engineering laboratory. Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains laboratory test instrumentation. Qualifications:
