POSITION SUMMARY
Our teachers will be expected to know each of their students as a learner and to encourage them to be curious and challenge them to excel. Endazhi-Nitaawiging will challenge every educator at the school to develop a thoroughly indigenized pedagogy, a way of teaching that reflects Ojibwe ways of knowing and that employs the Ojibwe language as the medium of instruction as much as possible. Our teachers are expected to learn how to integrate land-based learning and environmental learning experiences into their instruction.
DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES
- Create and implement an effective, high-quality, rigorous program that builds bi-literacy skills and multicultural appreciation via a variety of instructional techniques
- Establish a culture for learning that is positive, inclusive and challenging environment of respect, exploration and perseverance
- Provide for the individual learning needs of all students
- Develop curriculum using research-based best practices which meets MN state standards
- Evaluate each student's progress in comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing in relationship to the age and ability of students in both English & of the Ojibwe o Assessments in language reflect ACTFL, SOPA/COPE & Boyd-Batstone, listening, speaking, reading and writing proficiency descriptions
- Work collaborative and cohesively with specialists and grade level teachers
- Communicate with parents, counselors and administration on student progress and concerns
- Attend parent teacher conferences, staff professional development, and other required meetings
- Articulate orally and in writing
- Maintain required program and student records
- Demonstrate knowledge of Endazhi-Nitaawiging policies and practices
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND STRENGTHS
- 2+ years professional teaching experience, preferably in American Indian focused educational program
- In-depth knowledge and experience working with the Minnesota Indian community including families/students, elders, and community organizations
- Demonstrated commitment to Native language revitalization and academic excellence for Indian children
- Respect for and uplifting of diverse cultural elements of language, tradition, citizenship status, customs, attitudes, migration stories, and humility as core values of the organizational culture
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, superb interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with staff, partners, volunteers, parents, and others
- Knowledge and facility with various computer and educational software programs
- Ability to travel in and out of state, obtain a valid MN drivers license, and obtain current auto insurance
- Must successfully pass pre-employment drug testing and State, Federal or International Background checks

- Develop lesson plans and submit them for review and feedback as scheduled; work cooperatively with the academy's instructional coach to learn from feedback and improve the quality of instruction. Participate in ongoing analysis and

- Collaborate with special education staff to implement, to the greatest extent possible, an inclusive approach to students with special needs. Remain aware of student needs; participate in child study teams or individualized education planning; implement accommodations and modifications as indicated in student IEP's; seek advice and counsel from student support services areas when needed to ensure that all students are fully served.
- Collaborate with other staff, as necessary, to implement grant-funded programming to accelerate learning for students with a variety of needs including special education, at-risk, limited English proficient students and others, to bring them to grade level proficiency.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required; maintain the confidentiality of student records and student information. Complete any documentation necessary for the academy to be in compliance with regulatory requirements, such as time and effort reporting.
- Communicate with parents and make provisions for being available outside normal hours; work with parents to encourage participation in their child’s learning experiences; provide regular communication to parents regarding their children’s performance.
- Maintain professional competence via conferences, mentoring, involvement in professional organizations, continuing coursework, etc. Complete all coursework and other requirements necessary to maintain teaching credentials and "highly qualified" status, as required by the teacher's assignment.
- Inform the school leader of needed instructional resources. Serve as an active member of teams such as grade-level, school-wide planning, school improvement or other areas of focus.

The SpecialEducation Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education ProgramAdministrator provides quality services to special education students,kindergarten through grade 12. The Special Education Teacher has acommitment to team participation in planning and implementation of studentprograms including special instruction, tutorial assistance and consultationwith general education staff.
Essential Duties andResponsibilities:
Prepares studenteducation plans in consultation with parents and department team members
Supports learningfor students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physicaldisabilities.
Designs instruction,both individual and small group, which parallels the general educationcurriculum
Assists parents,administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals todevelop educational plans designed to promote students' educational, physical,and social development
Prepares materialsand classrooms for class activities
Serves as thecoordinator of individualize education program (IEP) implementation withgeneral education staff
Monitors studentprogress, participates in review and revision of student's IEP, asappropriate
Maintains accuratestudent records
Mentors and supportsteaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities
Supports students inpreparation for grade transitions and preparing for life skills
Assess students'skills and educational needs and tracks student's performance
Discusses students'progress with their other teachers
Communicates tomaintain positive relationships with students and their parents
Follows SchoolDistrict policies and procedures
