We are looking for a Lead Engineer to join the CI/CD team in our Internal Development Platform (IDP) zone. The IDP zone within athenahealth is responsible for developing, enhancing and maintaining all the core foundational components that are required by other development teams within athenahealth to successfully build their products. In addition, the zone also delivers select end use features. The Team: The Unified Pipeline (CI/CD) team is a central part of developer experience at athenahealth. This team is responsible for building a pipeline which will be the core of athenahealth's SDLC. In this team, you will see a mix of technologies, including AWS, Jenkins, Harness, Kubernetes, Bitbucket, Python, server management, and more. As a Lead Member of Technical Staff, you will collaborate with the team and development organization to implement best practices, ensure stability, and enhance the experience for our internal customers.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead, design and develop code on an agile team of engineers, a scrum master, a product owner, and experience designer
- Collaborate, mentor, and advise team members to promote productivity and effectiveness; share business and technical insights with the broader engineering and product organization
- Develop knowledge to act as a domain expert. Take ownership of what the team builds and coordinate efforts across the teams to ensure proper completion
Typical Qualifications
- Ideally 6+ years of software engineering experience with significant product development expertise
- Proficient in at least one modern programming language
- Experience with DevOps, Harness, Kubernetes, Python, Jenkins, AWS, Groovy, Docker and similar broad technologies is preferred
- Experience building and maintaining CICD Pipelines
- We work in Agile TDD environments, so any Agile experience or CI/CD concepts is helpful
- Knowledge of Unix/Linux, SQL, RESTful API, and various other technologies is helpful

Location: Remote
VES, LLC is currently seeking a Senior CI/CD Pipeline Engineer to design, develop, and maintain continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines . This role is critical in ensuring the reliability, security, and automation of build processes for these mission-critical systems. You will work closely with software engineers, DevOps professionals, and systems architects to implement scalable and efficient build infrastructure supporting embedded Linux and real-time systems.
General Job Duties:
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins Pipeline, GitLab CI/CD, and Bitbucket Pipelines to support robust and scalable software delivery
- Automate infrastructure and deployments using scripting such as Python, Bash, or Ruby to support build, testing, and deployment
- Configure and optimize Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar CI/CD platforms .
- Develop and manage infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions (such as Terraform or Helm) to support software deployment.
- Implement artifact management, version control policies, and reproducible builds .
- Collaborate with software teams to integrate build and release automation into their workflows.
- Monitor and optimize pipeline performance, security, and reliability .
- Document and maintain build infrastructure configurations for long-term maintainability.
- Implement DevSecOps best practices and security hardening for CI/CD pipelines.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and sharing best practices to elevate team capability.
- Work cross-functionally with Security, QA, and Release Engineering to ensure pipelines are secure, observable, and resilient.
Desired Requirements:
- Experience with Yocto build environments, Linux-based build systems, and embedded software pipelines .
- Solid understanding of containerization (Docker), Kubernetes orchestration, and cloud-based CI/CD environments .
- Familiarity with service mesh, observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana), and secrets management.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in CI/CD pipeline engineering, DevOps, or software build automation.
- Strong scripting experience with Bash, Python, or Groovy for automation.
- In-depth knowledge of artifact repositories (Artifactory, Nexus) and version control systems (Git).
- Strong proficiency with Jenkins, GitLab CI, or other CI/CD automation tools .
- Security clearance eligibility (active clearance ).
