  • Assists electrical engineers with the design and layout of electronic hardware, primarily printed circuit boards (PCBs), and is able to interpret and understand all basic design requirements.
  • Implements moderate to highly complex PWB designs.

  • Works independently with moderate to minimal oversight from senior technical personnel.

Who We Are:

The Strategic Aerospace Department in the Defense & Intelligence Solutions Division provides the USAF with engineering services that increases the warfighters capabilities specifically for the bombers, tankers and heavies platforms. We provide world-class research, design, services, and support, offering both new products and solutions to legacy issues for the US Air Force Global Strike Command, DoD industry, Allies, and U.S. Government. This position has the ability to have an alternate work location in Austin, Tx.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Work with multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians in the execution of complex R&D program in support of national security.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Lead other designers in the development of PWB designs for avionics systems. Participate in proposals and customer meetings.
  • Will work in a team environment as well as independently to complete assigned tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Development of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and Library component generation.
  • Requires PWB design experience to support integrated product team design reviews of drawings and other relevant technical data in support of avionic designs.
  • Position may require additional hours to meet project schedules.
  • Collaborate directly with Electrical and Mechanical engineers to develop printed circuit boards and interconnect systems for PCBs in support of MIL-SPEC avionics flight electronic hardware.
Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelors degree Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, Aeronautics Technology or a High School diploma/equivalent or an Associates degree with continued education, certifications, and 25 years related experience.
  • 10+ years: Those with a Bachelors degree require 10-15 years of experience in printed wiring board design.
  • 25 years: Those without a Bachelors degree will require 25 years of advanced working knowledge of Mentor Graphics PADS Professional, and/or Xpedition with printed wiring board design.
  • Interconnect principles and practices designing low level and complex PWB designs is desired.
  • Basic understanding of configuration management and electronic development methods are required. A good understanding of Signal Integrity as well as a good mechanical aptitude is desired. Prior knowledge of IPC standards, Digital, Mixed Signal, and RF electronics PWB designs.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

As a key technical leader, you will work on the design, analysis, validation, and certification of safety-critical electronic products. AS A PCB DESIGN ENGINEER, YOU WILL:

  • Lead the design, development, and validation of complex, mixed-signal electronic hardware systems that comply with Functional Safety requirements for industrial automation industry.

  • Conduct design reviews, reliability testing, and safety analysis to ensure product robustness.
  • Define safety requirements, hazard analysis, and risk assessments in accordance with industry standards.
  • Perform Failure Modes, Effects, and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to ensure fault tolerant hardware design.
  • Implement redundancy, fail-safe mechanisms, fault detection, and diagnostic features in hardware products.
  • Collaborate with certification bodies to show compliance with functional safety standards.
  • Implement system-level safety concepts, including safety integrity levels and hardware fault tolerance requirements.
  • Keep up to date with the latest industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • PCB Layout: Convert electrical schematics into physical PCB layouts using industry-standard tools (e.g., Cadence Allegro, Mentor Graphics Xpedition, or Altium).
