Job Summary :
- Civil/Structural Engineer plans and conducts independent work in the Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) Engineering discipline within the Energy Business Unit, requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria

Essential Job Duties :
- Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work for the Oil, Gas, and Chemicals Business Unit in the Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) Engineering discipline assigned to a project or staff group. Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice associated with civil site development design activities, but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and/or difficult coordination requirements.
- Performs work using client's Standard Application Programs and appropriate 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CADD)tools.
- Plans, coordinates, or prepares work specifications, technical bid evaluations, and award recommendations for subcontracts or material requisitions associated with civil site development.
- Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between Civil Engineering and other engineering disciplines, clients, suppliers, and contractors.
- When delegated, assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.
- Assists in on-the-job training of assigned personnel and provides input for their performance evaluations.
- Prepares letters to vendors and clients.
- Reviews civil site development deliverables and technical documentation produced by suppliers and subcontractors.
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals associated with civil site development.
- Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design associated with civil site development.
- Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts, and change orders associated with civil site development
- Reviews and checks the work of subordinate engineers associated with civil site development.
- Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
Job Knowledge:
- Knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations.
- Experience in preparation and checking of civil site development design deliverables (concepts, drawings, calculations, and quantities) for site layout, site drainage, rough grading, finish grading, rigid and flexible pavements, railroad crossings, storm water and sanitary systems, fencing, underground utilities services and soil retention and stabilization structures.
- Understanding of the application of Engineering Department Procedures and relevant design guides. Broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
- Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design, including appropriate knowledge of 2-D and 3-D CADD, and relevant client's Standard Application Programs to perform the work.
- These include Bentley MicroStation, InRoads, CulvertMaster, FlowMaster, CivilStorm, Intergraph Smart3D, or equivalent applications currently in use in the industry.
- Understanding of engineering planning and control methods, including computerized methods.
- Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects, including basic construction practices and the economics involved.
- Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the Civil Engineering discipline, such as those developed by AASHTO, ACI, ASTM, Asphalt Institute, PCA etc.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Knowledge of Smartplant 3D is a plus
Basis Qualifications:
- A recognized Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university with 6+ years of project experience
- A professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board, AND
- Practical work experience in design engineering or relevant equivalent experience in allied types of engineering sufficient to demonstrate competence as a trained engineer.

Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements
Physical Demands - Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e. Client's office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, walk on slope roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, climb inside attics and crawl under homes and tunnels, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, use handheld equipment and/or tools, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.
Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.
Travel Requirements - This position requires up to 50% local/regional travel. Less than 5% out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.

Primoris Engineering has an immediate need for a Mid to Senior-level Civil/Structural Engineer to support our engineering office in Houston, Texas. This position involves performing civil/structural engineering assignments associated with designing equipment, components, structures or systems.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare basic to advanced level specifications for project assignments detailing client performance requirements, specific component needs, design requirements, applicable design codes, and vendor drawing requirements.
- Prepare engineering sketches, perform engineering calculations and develop analysis models for moderately complex project assignments.
- Prepare, review and/or approve vendor drawings for compliance with project specifications.
- Design simple pipe support foundations
- Interact and communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, vendors and other consultants.
- Set realistic expectations and ensure assigned projects are completed according to schedule and within budget.
- Adhere to company quality standards and follow engineering checking and approval procedures.
- Comply with all company and client health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) standards as well as federal and local HSSE regulations.
- Actively participate in company and client hazard identification and observation programs, and immediately report any unsafe acts, conditions or incidents to your supervisor.
- Interact with drafting/design group to develop and review engineering drawings.
- Visit jobsites to evaluate site, project requirements, and conditions.
- Visit vendor facilities to inspect equipment for compliance with requirements/specifications.
- Prepare inquiry and purchase requisitions as well as bid tabulations associated with equipment purchases.
- Perform checking of engineering drawings and mathematical calculations.
- Adhere to safe design practices, while focusing on identifying cost saving opportunities.
- Manage workload, budgets and project resources, requesting assistance as necessary.
- Serve as Engineer in Responsible Charge as assigned and adhere to regulations regarding PE sealing requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required, Civil/Structural Engineering preferred.
- 10+ years relevant experience

- Working knowledge of the design of steel and concrete structures preferred.
- Working knowledge of structural design codes (AISC, ACI, API, IBC, etc.) preferred.
- Ideal candidate will be comfortable making design decisions in a timely manner.

The Challenge:

The candidate must have a strong educational background in design of steel structures, concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundations.

Experience reviewing substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, oil spill containment design, retaining walls, masonry control shelters, and fire-walls is required.

This position will consist of performing design reviews of the aforementioned civil/structural design components in support of the development of bid/construction packages for substation projects.

Candidate will primarily function as a senior engineer performing design reviews on a regular basis, as well as developing junior staff members, and contributing to bids and proposal development.

This role will also consist of taking a responsible engineer role on main client projects, overseeing the work and ensuring quality control on design packages.

Site-visits to client substation facilities are expected to be part of the work, along with occasional travel for client meetings and industry related events.

Experience in front-facing client operations such as lunch and learns, and kick-off meetings if preferred.
