The Classroom Teacher is responsible for demonstrating a spirit of innovation and inquiry in their lessons and interactions with students and families, building a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, establishing effective rapport with pupils, motivating pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education, and in accordance with each pupil’s ability while displaying a desire for raising student achievement.

  • Collaborates with colleagues (grade level and school-wide meetings, professional development days, the professional development institute) to continuously improve personal practice, classroom instruction, assessment, and student achievement, as well as the overall goals and mission of the school and the network
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and takes ownership over professional growth and development
  • Provides universal support for students in classrooms using interventions outlined in Exploration’s Multi-Tiered System of Support framework with fidelity
  • Serve on a school committee or team over the course of the year
  • Attends quarterly family nights and parent-teacher conferences
  • Regularly use Google for calendaring, email communication, and accessing important documents

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education
  • Master’s degree in education preferred

Certification

  • Current valid New York State Teaching Certificate at the elementary level or early childhood level preferred

Experience

  • Prior experience with project/inquiry-based instruction preferred
  • Experience working with a culturally and ethnically diverse population is strongly desired.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring to the Team:
️ Must be at least 18 years old.
️ High School Diploma or equivalent.
️ Meet Teacher qualifications as determined by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).
️ A solid understanding of children's growth and development-and the creativity to turn this knowledge into engaging, age-appropriate activities!

Requirements Before You Start:
Complete EEC fingerprinting prior to your first day.
Keep all required documents and certifications current in your educator file.
Complete all trainings, certifications, and program orientation following EEC and YMCA of the North Shore guidelines.
Maintain current Infant/Child CPR & First Aid certification.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Comfortable bending, twisting, reaching, and transitioning between sitting (including sitting on the floor!) and standing.
Willing to spend time outdoors in all seasons.
Able to react quickly and appropriately to the unpredictable actions of young children.

Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation's leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.
The CSU Early Childhood Center ( ECC ) is a laboratory school with a three-fold mission to a) offer a developmentally appropriate, Reggio Emilia-inspired learning environment for young children; b) prepare university students for careers in the field of early childhood; and c) provide opportunities for research related to children, families, and early childhood education. Each year, the ECC serves approximately 150 children (ages 6 weeks to 6 years), while simultaneously training students from various departments across the CSU campus including Food Science and Human Nutrition; Human Development and Family Studies; Occupational Therapy; the School of Education; and the School of Theatre, Music and Dance.
Housed within CSU's Department of Human Development and Family Studies, the ECC has been serving children and families in the Fort Collins community since 1929 and is dedicated to working in partnership with families to ensure a quality educational experience for children. We are a Reggio Emilia-inspired program, providing an emergent approach to educating children that is play-based and child-directed.
Position Summary
The Department of Human Development and Family Studies seeks applications throughout the year from individuals who are interested in obtaining non-tenure track teaching positions within the CSU Early Childhood Center working with young children between the ages of 6 weeks to 6 years. ECC teachers adhere to the mission, policies, and procedures of the ECC as well as State of Colorado licensing requirements and NAEYC accreditation standards while implementing a Reggio Emilia-inspired approach.
These are full-time,12-month appointments with competitive salaries and full benefits including health insurance, paid vacations, and 9 free credits of CSU tuition per year. The role of a Classroom Teacher is to work with a Mentor Teacher to provide management of the classroom and guidance of Assistant Teachers. The role of a Mentor Teacher is to provide management of the classroom, supervision of intern and practicum students, and guidance of Classroom Teachers and Assistant Teachers.
Required Job Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline OR, will have a bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline by the hire date OR, a bachelor's degree in any field plus two years of related experience, OR, have an Early Childhood Teacher ( ECT ) qualification, with a minimum of 1 year experience in a Reggio Emilia Inspired Early Childhood Setting.
+ A minimum of 1 year of experience in an early childhood education setting.
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Preferred qualifications for a Classroom Teacher include experience in a Reggio Emilia-inspired Early Childhood setting.
+ Other preferred qualifications include ECE teaching license, a master's degree in an appropriate discipline, or a Colorado Early Childhood Professional Credential of IV or above.
