Job Description

At Houston Methodist, the Clinical Research Fellow position is responsible for performing clinical research of a complex nature; plans, executes and completes clinical research projects under the supervision/direction of a Principal Investigator. This position provides structured education and first-hand applied experiences in such topics as epidemiology, biostatistics, clinical pharmacology, and biomedical ethics/regulation and a certificate of fellowship is granted to the Clinical Research Fellow upon satisfactory completion of the fellowship program.
**PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
+ Directs patient contact supporting the performance of clinical protocols.
+ Enrolls subjects into prospective studies and obtains informed consent from patients and legally authorized representatives in accordance with hospital policy and the study protocol.
+ Collaborates with the Principal Investigator, interprofessional research team, fellowship stakeholders, and health care professionals regularly for problem resolution and/or achievement of research study goals.
+ Serves as a mentor and provides educational and research oversight for other learners in the applicable department or research lab. Role models effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication, which includes active listening and teaching, assisting in development of such skills. Provides contributions towards improvement of department scores for employee engagement, i.e., peer-to-peer accountability.

+ Collects and processes study data and maintain study databases in accordance with study protocols.
+ Develops and conducts statistical analyses for interventional and observational studies using relevant statistical software.

General Summary:

The Clinical Coordinator is a member of the management team who assists the Nurse Manager with the daily operations of the nursing unit/department on a 24-hour basis. The Clinical Excellence Quality (CEQ) Pharmacy Operations team supports Optum's Care Delivery Organizations by delivering patient-centered, clinically collaborative medication consultations to help people live healthier lives. Clinical pharmacists also consult with providers, pharmacies, internal departments, and/or other external third parties to drive improved patient outcomes. In addition, clinical pharmacists field both clinical and social determinants of health-related needs with members directly or from escalations by other clinical and non-clinical staff.
Clinical pharmacists are required to meet or exceed established productivity and quality metrics, though can work a flexible schedule to support the hours of operation (Monday - Saturday 9:00AM - 6:00PM CT). Clinical pharmacists work a rotating Saturday schedule with approximately 6 shifts per calendar year.

**Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Conduct telephonic medication consultations that meet/exceed production & quality metrics
+ Complete annual medication review of prescription and non-prescription medications with emphasis on patient assessment and counseling, safe and effective use of medications, identification of potential drug interactions, and other related activities
+ Complete pharmacotherapy assessment of patients' claims, past medical history, and disease states
+ Assess patients for medication adherence barriers and develop a plan to maximize patients' medication success through improving or maintaining adherence to medications
+ Deliver high quality evidence-based therapeutic recommendations to providers
+ Deliver a patient-centered, clinically collaborative medication consultation
+ Develop a post-consultation list of action items for the patient and/or prescriber
+ Document clinical consultations into internal documentation platform
+ Participate in and contribute to staff meetings and other staff development opportunities and interdepartmental work groups
+ Identify areas of improvement where systems modifications could result in operational advancements and efficiencies
