Description
The incumbent will function as a faculty member in the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, Division of Adult Psychiatry. The incumbent will cover the SIU Adult inpatient service at Memorial Medical Center or St. John's Hospital and provide some outpatient services for SIU and collaborating agencies. The ability to provide ECT is essential. The incumbent will provide clinical and didactic training and establish lines of research. The incumbent will report to the Adult Psychiatry Division Director in the Department of Psychiatry.
Examples of Duties
10% TEACHING
- Carry out delegated responsibilities concerning the instruction of medical students, residents and fellows in the discipline of psychiatry. This includes participation in and direction of formal rounds, conferences, and seminars: leadership and instruction during formal and informal clinic, outpatient and inpatient. Ensures the clinical teaching of residents and students on the clinical services occurs effectively.
- Serve as mentor with second year student small group during neuroscience block once every five (5) years.
- Participate in residency didactics as assigned.
- Present at Grand Rounds or Interdisciplinary conferences.
- Provide clinical supervision to residents in Psychiatry.
- Moderate Resident Journal Club and case conferences as needed.
- Serve as a mentor for psychiatry clerkship.
- Serve as a moderator for psychiatry Student Journal Club.
- Maintain professional outpatient practice in accordance with SIU HealthCare policy.
- Provide inpatient and/or consultation-liaison coverage at HSHS St. John's Hospital, Springfield Memorial Hospital, and/or Packard Mental Health Center including coverage of ECT.
- Participate in call schedule and other routine faculty coverage duties of inpatient services on weekends.
- Establish lines of research on own or in collaboration with colleagues.
- Publish one (1) peer-reviewed article every three (3) years
- Develop a line of publishable scholarly activity.
- Supervise resident research as applicable.
- Maintain certification per Springfield Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects (SCRIHS).
- Participate in administrative meetings as assigned.
- Serve on departmental and school committees as required and represent the department as needed to other organizations.
Qualifications
- Must have an MD or DO degree.
- Must have completed four (4) years of approved residency training in psychiatry.
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure with the State of Illinois.
- Must be board certified/eligible in Psychiatry.
- Will be expected to achieve and maintain board certification within three (3) years, if not board certified at the time of hire.
- Must have sufficient experience in ECT to be privileged at both assigned hospitals. SIU will provide training if necessary.
- Must be willing to be trained in the provision of TMS.
- Must have experience providing services to multicultural populations; experience dealing with underrepresented minority populations; and be sensitive to the needs of minority populations.

The Clinical Trials Manager for Psychiatry works closely with the Vice Chair for Clinical Research to support the coordination and execution of investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials within the Department of Psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The Clinical Trials Manager will work to ensure the operational success and regulatory compliance of a growing portfolio of research studies focused on mental health, including mood disorders, psychosis, anxiety, PTSD, and neurodevelopmental conditions. The manager will provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team of coordinators and research staff, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
**Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, neuroscience, public health, nursing, or related field required; Master's degree (e.g., MPH, MS, MSW, RN, or related) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical research experience, with at least 2 years in a trials management role, preferably in psychiatry or behavioral health.
- Thorough understanding of ethical and operational considerations in mental health clinical research, including work with vulnerable populations and cognitively impaired individuals.
- Experience with IRB and regulatory submissions in an academic setting.

- Oversee development of study protocols, case report forms (CRFs), source documents, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate clinical research coordinators and assistants supporting psychiatric trials.
- Monitor and report on study metrics, enrollment targets, and regulatory timelines; proactively identify and address barriers to recruitment and retention in psychiatric populations.
- Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), FDA regulations, ICH guidelines, HIPAA, and IRB requirements specific to mental health research.
- Supervise and support the preparation and submission of IRB applications, amendments, continuing reviews, and adverse event reports.
- Participate in the negotiation and management of study budgets and contracts.
- Coordinate and facilitate site initiation visits, monitoring visits, and sponsor audits with a focus on mental health research standards and best practices.
