Branch Health Clinic Port Hueneme is a tenant command of Naval Base Ventura County. Duties

On March 19, 2009, construction of a new Navy hospital for Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton was approved in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The replacement of the Camp Pendleton hospital was the largest ARRA project in the Department of the Navy. The ground breaking for the 500,000-square-foot, four-story building was December 2, 2010, with construction being completed October 17, 2013. The command transitioned to the new facility over a two week period from December 2 - 15, 2013. A Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held January 31, 2014, to officially open the facility.

Responsibilities

This position is as a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC). The Primary Care Behavioral Health Program provides a team-based approach to healthcare by integrating behavioral health providers and registered nurses into Primary Care Clinics to deliver evidence-based biopsychosocial assessment, treatment, prevention and management of behavioral health problems and biopsychosocially influenced health conditions for Military Health System beneficiaries.

Major duties include:

  • Serving as a Clinical Psychologist Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) for the Clinic and Behavioral Health System of Care (BHSOC) Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) program.
  • Making mental health diagnoses in accordance with the most recent version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) when differential diagnosis is required.
  • Providing individual and group treatment, including brief problem-focused interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychoeducational classes.
  • Assessing acute mental health and behavioral medicine conditions in beneficiaries.
  • Maintaining appropriate documentation of patient care in accordance with current unit and hospital standard operating procedures (SOPs) and current DoD, DHA, Federal, and state regulations.
  • Assessing and providing intervention for individuals with a wide range of chronic medical conditions and behavioral health issues affecting medical conditions.
  • Conducting outpatient group classes, stress management, relaxation training, assertive/social skills training, smoking cessation training, substance abuse identification, and brief related interventions appropriate for primary care.
  • Participating in quality assurance activities.
  • Providing psychological and clinical consultation to physicians, other professionals, and paraprofessionals through established consultation channels.
  • Consulting with primary care providers to select, approve, and document treatment priorities in SMART goal format.
  • Educating clinic staff on the principles of primary care behavioral health via trainings and briefings.
  • Conducting meetings and conferences to review the level of care for appropriateness of treatment in primary care and evaluate and approve referral sources.
  • Establishing cooperative agreements among various providers and clinics throughout the Military Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • Monitoring, evaluating, and approving use of community resources.
  • Providing reports and approving consults.
  • Using objective behavioral outcome measures to evaluate progress in treatment.

Fort Cavazos is a United States Army post located in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio. The post is named after Gen. Richard E. Cavazos, a native Texan and the US Army's first Hispanic four-star general. Formerly named Fort Hood for Confederate General John Bell Hood, the post is located halfway between Austin and Waco, about 60 mi from each, within the U.S. state of Texas. The post is the headquarters of III Armored Corps and First Army Division West and is home to the 1st Cavalry Division and 3rd Cavalry Regiment, among others.

Its origin was the need for wide-open space to test and train with World War II tank destroyers. The War Department announced the location in January 1942, and the initial completion was set for that August. As originally constructed, Fort Cavazos had an area of 158,706 acres, with billeting for 6,007 officers and 82,610 enlisted personnel.

Clinical Psychologist – Veteran Disability Assessments 

We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Psychologist to join our team in performing medical assessments for U.S. Veterans as part of the VA's disability benefits process. In performing Disability Assessments, you will review behavioral health records electronically through a secure Web Portal and perform a comprehensive assessment in-person on each Veteran. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct in-person disability assessments for U.S. Veterans. 
  • Review and analyze electronic medical records via a secure web portal. 
  • Accurately document exam findings and complete the required VA forms. 

Note: This role does not involve treatment or prescribing medication. Disability determinations are made by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), not by the provider. 

Position Details: 

  • Schedule: Part-Time, 2-3 days per week.
  • Location: In-person role. 
  • Caseload: 4 Veterans per day on average. 
  • Equipment Provided: Computer and all necessary tools for documentation. 

What We’re Looking For: 

  • A compassionate Psychologist dedicated to supporting the Veteran community. 
  • Strong analytical skills to review medical records and assessment data. 
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Proficient in electronic documentation and web-based portals. 
  • A professional and empathetic demeanor when interacting with Veterans. 

Requirements: 

  • Has a Ph.D. or Psy.D and has graduated from an APA Accredited program/school. 
  • Holds an active & unrestricted Psychology license. 
  • Comfortable using technology to review records and complete documentation. 

Compensation & Benefits: 

  • Competitive salary: $53/hr-$60/hr (based on experience).

  • Predictable schedule with no on-call duties.
