**Responsibilities:**
GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a diversity of technical assignments which are broadly outlined, require some theoretical insight and occasionally require the interpretation of results. Exercises complex skill and judgment, and knowledge of the principles and methods of a technical field. Serves as a resource to physicians, nurses and other laboratory personnel regarding specimen handling and processing.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
Manages and maintains department schedules for staff in the Automated Lab.
Authorizes requests for time off, approves subsequent changes to the schedule and communicates changes to appropriate individuals.
Prepares and posts master schedule six weeks in advance.
Ensures adequate staffing levels.
Posts vacancies and assists staff with filling full or partial shifts.
Schedules employees and new hires for mandatory in-services and continuing education programs.
Monitors staff compliance for annual competency and required in-services.
Oversees and facilitates new hire orientation.
Schedules training of new staff and in-services new hires on scheduling practices.
Reviews time sheets for completeness and accuracy.
Develops methods for handling payroll.
Trains Supervisors and staff on HRIS system. Initiates payroll changes.
Monitors vacation and unscheduled absences for supervisory review.
Completes special projects, data collection and standardizing scheduling SOP.
Other duties as assigned.
**MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
Associate's degree in laboratory sciences and technical training closely related to this position required
1 year of laboratory experience preferred
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
Familiarity with medical terminology preferred

* PATIENT CARE - Assist in preparation of patient care to include the admission, transfer and discharge process; phone in prescriptions; assist the provider with a variety of treatment procedures as requested to include setting up sterile fields and chaperoning
* PATIENT CARE - Perform routine non-invasive treatment procedures to include saturation, administration and urine dipsticks; may perform invasive procedures to include but not limited to phlebotomy, ear irrigation, catheterization, and EKG's
* MEDICATION - Administer medication, including Parenteral (IM, SQ, ID); Oral Drops, Eye Drops, and Oral via Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings (After completion of UNMH MA Medication Administration course)
* PATIENT CARE - Perform basic patient initial screening; intakes and records vital signs; records chief complaints; patient data collection; report any changes in condition or behavior of patients to appropriate personnel
* DATA - Enter various data into computer and forms; verify data, make corrections and ensure accuracy; schedule patient appointments; answer and direct phone calls as requested; take and relay messages to providers
