Job Description
Purpose:
Provides clinical care and surgical support of research animals; assists with the monitoring of animal health at external vendors; collaborates with and provides professional expertise to AbbVie R&D researcher teams through management of clinical cases and development of animal models; and works to integrate aspects of the 3Rs (Replacement, Refinement, and Reduction) and AbbVie's Global Animal Welfare Policy in the local Comparative Medicine program.
Responsibilities:
+ Provide leadership or support in clinical or surgical aspects of veterinary care, and oversee the monitoring of vendor animal health programs, as directed by the supervisor.
+ Conduct semiannual to quarterly site visits at the AbbVie Bay Area Vivarium and provide veterinary services, including protocol reviews, consultations, and on-call support, as needed.
+ Lead the site's initiative to enhance the animal behavioral management program under the supervision of Comparative Medicine leadership, ensuring alignment with the Global Comparative Medicine effort.
+ Under the supervision of the Senior Director and Clinical Director, leads the site's hands-on training program for anesthesia and euthanasia
+ Execute and provide clinical oversight including diagnosis and treatment for disease processes in research animals under area of responsibility.
+ Provide surgical support to needed areas of research which may include rodent and non-rodent species.
+ Assist with the monitoring of vendors, and work collaboratively with the Global Animal Welfare Committee, to assure the adequacy of the health of all animals received within the facilities.
+ Incorporate the 3 R's (Replacement, Refinement and Reduction) in daily decision-making, conduct of research oriented activities and in guidance to research staff.
+ Serve as a functional resource to the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) Collaborate with researchers to provide professional and scientific consultation for the selection and development of unique animal research models, and testing and production operations within animal facilities.
+ Contribute to the short-term strategies of the operations aspect of Comparative Medicine and provide leadership to the animal care staff in the daily operations of animal husbandry and facility oversight.
+ Provide leadership that encourages innovation; set expectations and hold people accountable for their actions.
+ Contribute to the development of the staff, effectively communicate both successes and failures in order to proactively reward or implement corrective actions, as necessary.
+ Manage appointed discretionary items in functional budget.
Qualifications
+ Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited or equivalent institution.
+ American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) boarded with 3-5 years lab animal experience OR DVM-PhD with at least 2-4 years of lab animal experience.
+ Understanding of applicable local, state and federal regulatory framework.
+ Good communication and interpersonal skills are required as well as good technical writing skills and experience
+ Good knowledge in laboratory animal medicine or have demonstrated strong clinical, surgical and/or specialty skills benefiting the program.
+ Technical expertise in dosing, bleeding, animal necropsies, anesthesia and minor surgical procedures in laboratory animals is required.
+ Veterinary state licensure (or equivalent) is required. Licensure in the state of AbbVie employment is preferred.
+ This individual must demonstrate proficient knowledge and experience in biomedical research.

Your Role: Clinical Site Veterinarian
In this position, you will provide critical technical resources and leadership for the clinical site teams. You will ensure veterinary expertise in experimental design, protocol execution, regulatory compliance, veterinary diagnostics, treatment, gross pathology, and emergency care.

We are looking to add an Animal Care Attendant to our team at Wescott Acres!
Reports To: General Manager
Perks: PT Health insurance, PT mental health, PT telehealth.
Pay: $11.00 - $14.00/hour + tips
Core Responsibilities- Supports mission, vision and values of Destination Pet.
- Sanitizes/disinfects pet enclosures and general boarding areas.
- Provides clean bedding and ensures pet guests have clean water at all times.
- Makes sure that each pet receives the correct type and quantity of food for each meal and maintains cleanliness of food prep areas.
- Monitors and accurately charts consumption and elimination of every pet guest; brings concerns to the General Manager or Assistant Manager.
- Visually checks pet guests for safety and well-being throughout the day.
- May be required to supervise group play for dogs and/or individual activities for pet guests.
- May be required to assist with bathing and brushing of canine guests.
- Checks and picks up excrement from enclosures and other areas as needed throughout the day.
- Monitors pet belongings; cleans belongings as needed; assures the return of pet belongings to owners. Carries pet belongings to storage area, front desk or to assist customers, as needed.
- Performs daily laundering of pet bedding and towels.
Expertise & Experience:
- Must be a pet fanatic pets are part of our family!
- Professional animal care/kennel experience preferred.
- Displays a professional manner at all times.
- Entry level role. High school/College/Teenagers 16+ encouraged to apply.
Physical:
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Must frequently lift 40 pounds.
