MAU is hiring a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Programmer for our client in Greenville, SC. As a CNC Programmer, you will generate, verify, and maintain CNC programs, support manufacturing engineers, and provide technical assistance on the shop floor. This is a contract, long-term opportunity.

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree, Associate Degree with 3 years of CNC machining experience, or an Apprentice Graduate in a machining-related program with 3 years of CNC machining experience
• 3+ years of experience creating 5-axis CNC programs using a CAM system (NX)

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Machine Tool Technology
• 3+ years of experience with graphical-based CAM software creating 3- and 4-axis CNC programs
• Experience using Vericut or other CNC verification/machine simulation software

General Requirements:

• Proficiency in programming multiple types of CNC machines, including Haas, Okuma, and Fanuc controls
• Hands-on machine setup experience
• Knowledge of machining high-temperature alloys used in gas turbines
• Experience with high-level machine tool controls, including sub-routine (macro), probing, variable-based programming, and CLM (closed-loop machining)
• Knowledge of post-processor development and debugging, preferably UG Post Builder
• Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
• Above-average shop math skills in geometry and trigonometry
• Ability to interpret and apply drawing requirements effectively

Essential Functions:

• Generate and maintain CNC programs using NX-CAM or other software, including multi-axis milling, turning, grinding, and EDM
• Verify new CNC programs before release using Vericut
• Provide CNC-related support to Manufacturing Engineers and train operators during new machine startups or process improvements
• Troubleshoot and provide daily operator support in CNC programming on the shop floor
• Implement tooling and fixturing requirements for CNC machine tools
• Create and maintain workstation instructions related to CNC processes
• Lead process improvement projects to enhance safety, quality, cost, and delivery
• Drive the implementation and expansion of CNC/CAM technology
• Collaborate effectively within a team and adapt to a fast-paced work environment
• Train other CNC programmers as needed

Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Machine Shop Supervisor, plan, lay-out and perform a wide range of machine tool operations in a shop environment to construct, alter and repair pump components.

Responsibilities

Including but not limited to:

• Use computer software to model cutting paths and program machines accordingly.

• Perform quality assurance tests to ensure products meet design specifications.

• Adjust machine cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality.

• Consider tools required to cut various materials and program machines accordingly.

• Detect and report faulty operation, defective material and equipment, and other unusual conditions to proper Supervisor or Leadman.
• Replace cutting tools, drills, taps, grinding tools, blades, sanding belts and discs, as required.

• Proficient in the set up and running of one or more pieces of manual and CNC equipment.
• Maintain workplace in a neat and orderly condition.

POSITION SUMMARY:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Create and maintain all programs for the shop floor, using Siemens NX software.
• Works with the Project Managers (PMs) and Manufacturing Engineers (MEs) in evaluating requests for quote to determine if a program can be done cost effectively for the customer and the company.
• Works with PMs, MEs, vendors and others to gather any necessary information for new jobs.
• Coordinate jobs flowing through the department and verify data prior to being released to the shop.
• Work with the operation and engineering teams to resolve any programming issues.
• May develop programs for touch probe programming for on machine inspection and coordinate shifting. Support the development of touch probing standard procedures.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Commitment to a safety culture where safety is the first consideration before starting any task.
• Experience using Siemens NX and SolidWorks.
• Experience with 5 axis and/or Swiss programming.
• Experience with SolidWorks assemblies and nesting parts into billets for machining of part families.
• Experience working with fixture concepts and designs.
• Experience with verification software, including machine simulation, verification, graphics capturing, multi-operations with in-process models, Auto-Diff, OptiPath, etc.
• Experience with maintaining postprocessors for a variety of machines and control types.
• Experience with touch probe macro programming and utilizing standards and procedures for the safe and effective use of probes on the shop floor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
