Job Overview:
The Medical Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in the inpatient behavioral health setting is responsible for providing comprehensive medical assessment and consultations for psychiatric inpatients. The APN serves as a key member of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring that patients receive safe, high-quality care that addresses medical needs.
Primary responsibilities including performing admission history and physical exams, identifying and managing acute and chronic medical conditions, and providing timely medical consultations throughout the hospitalization. The APN collaborates with psychiatry, nursing and ancillary services to support safe integrated care planning, and continuity of care. When appropriate, the APN initiates diagnostic testing, interprets results, prescribes medications, and coordinates with outside providers or specialists to address complex medical issues.

Qualifications:
Required:
* Master's degree in Nursing required.
* Registered Professional Nurse with current NJ state license.
* CDS and DEA.
* CPR certification.
* NP Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (Adult, Family, or Acute Care).
* APN License
* Three to five years of work experience as a professional nurse.
Preferred:
* One year experience as a Nurse Practitioner in inpatient or consult-liaison medicine.

Essential Functions:
* Performs evaluation, treatment, counseling, and educational functions.
* Billing for patient services based on CMS and NJ State Board Regulations.
* Demonstrates satisfactory knowledge and judgment to provide appropriate care for patients.
* Develops plan of care for patients in coordination with multidisciplinary team and completes appropriate reports to primary care physicians and family.
* Documents and maintains patient records of services provided according to facility and nursing standards.
* Establishes a collaborative relationship with other providers.
* Interviews, instructs and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
* Issues psychotropic prescriptions to patients based on Federal & State Regulations.
* Orders and reviews appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Reviews all lab data and documents.
* Performs and obtains a completed medical history and physical data on patients with appropriate documentation and findings.
* Responsible for coordinating nursing and training programs on compliant for policies such as HIPAA, OSHA, Code of Conduct.
* Responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice.
* Reviews and audits charts routinely.

About Hampstead Hospital and Residential Treatment Facility
Hampstead Hospital and Residential Treatment Facility is an accredited State of New Hampshire specialty hospital that serves the acute psychiatric and substance related disorder needs of children, adolescents, and young adults.
