ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

- Collaborate with other staff, as necessary, to implement grant-funded programming to accelerate learning for students with a variety of needs including special education, at-risk, limited English proficient students and others, to bring them to grade level proficiency.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required; maintain the confidentiality of student records and student information. Complete any documentation necessary for the academy to be in compliance with regulatory requirements, such as time and effort reporting.
- Communicate with parents and make provisions for being available outside normal hours; work with parents to encourage participation in their child’s learning experiences; provide regular communication to parents regarding their children’s performance.
- Maintain professional competence via conferences, mentoring, involvement in professional organizations, continuing coursework, etc. Complete all coursework and other requirements necessary to maintain teaching credentials and "highly qualified" status, as required by the teacher's assignment.
- Inform the school leader of needed instructional resources. Serve as an active member of teams such as grade-level, school-wide planning, school improvement or other areas of focus.
- May participate in extracurricular activities such as coaching, clubs, student government, tutoring, enrichment activities, etc.

Our Coding Educator will be responsible for developing and facilitating the coding education program for Inpatient and Outpatient Coders. Here is what you can expect as our Coding Educator:

- Actively works with the Vice President of Coding Education, Quality & Audit Coordination, Director of Coding Education and Audit Coordination, Director of Coding Quality Management (and/or other members of those teams) to identify areas where focused education may be needed for all production coders and subsequently develops the curriculum and plan for educating all coders.
- Administers curriculum for coders to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for competency.
- Administers curriculum for newly hired coders to ensure proficiency and quality meets company standards.
- Provides "real world" coding experience for all coders prior to releasing any coder for production work.
- Tracks and manages CEU and credentialing of all R1 coding associates.
- Maintains knowledge of all current coding regulatory guidelines and governmental updates and communicates those changes to current staff and leadership to support appropriate, compliant coding.
- Maintains training collateral across multiple multimedia forums so that information is organized, highly presentable, and updated.
- Provides constructive review and feedback to assist in the development of instructional materials to include course plans, objectives, and evaluation tools.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of experience in auditing or higher-level coding leadership/management a MUST.
- Minimum of four years of experience in production coding.
- CCS and either RHIA or RHIT (CPC may be considered).
- Ability to interact with other employees through effective communication.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to deliver and teach complex coding concepts to large groups of coders.
- Strong problem solving skills.

At Stony Brook Medicine, the Coding Education will develop and provide educational programs as they relate to ICD-10 CM and ICD-10 PCS coding for new and existing staff and collaborate with department management in setting goals related to educational activities for all coders.
Duties of a Coding Educator may include the following but are not limited to:
- Responsible for evaluating, designing, coordinating and delivering comprehensive training and education for new and existing staff.
- Development of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 PCS education training for new employees.
- Assess and provide feedback to each coder on their work performed.
- Development of reinforcement training for existing staff in collaboration with department management.
- Provide educational sessions to new and existing staff based on results of each coders performance
- Perform coding audits and validation by reviewing medical records for correct ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 PCS coding. Compile and communicate results of the audits to the appropriate managers.
- Prepare training and presentations on various topics, such as the annual ICD-10 and ICD-10 PCS updates, any other coding updates throughout the year including Quarterly Coding Clinic reviews.
- Research updated coding information, rules, laws and statutes for all payers and government entities. Responsible to keep abreast of and hold extensive knowledge of government regulations related to coding and applicable reimbursement laws and regulations required.
- Ensure the Coding Staff has updated resources on an ongoing basis.
- Provide education to the Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) staff on a brief History of Coding.
- Provide education to the CDI staff on ICD-10 CM & ICD-10 PCS book contents, organization and how to use the books.
- Provide education to the CDI staff on how to identify Major Comorbidities and Chronic Comorbidities in ICD-10 CM books
- Provide education to the CDI staff on the Inpatient Prospective Payment System.

**Position Summary**
At Stony Brook Medicine, the Coding Education will develop and provide educational programs as they relate to ICD-10 CM and ICD-10 PCS coding for new and existing staff and collaborate with department management in setting goals related to educational activities for all coders.
**Duties of a Coding Educator** **may include the following but are not limited to:**
+ Responsible for evaluating, designing, coordinating and delivering comprehensive training and education for new and existing staff.
+ Development of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 PCS education training for new employees.
+ Assess and provide feedback to each coder on their work performed.
+ Development of reinforcement training for existing staff in collaboration with department management.
+ Provide educational sessions to new and existing staff based on results of each coders performance
+ Perform coding audits and validation by reviewing medical records for correct ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 PCS coding. Compile and communicate results of the audits to the appropriate managers.
+ Prepare training and presentations on various topics, such as the annual ICD-10 and ICD-10 PCS updates, any other coding updates throughout the year including Quarterly Coding Clinic reviews.
+ Research updated coding information, rules, laws and statutes for all payers and government entities. Responsible to keep abreast of and hold extensive knowledge of government regulations related to coding and applicable reimbursement laws and regulations required.
+ Ensure the Coding Staff has updated resources on an ongoing basis.
+ Provide education to the Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) staff on a brief History of Coding.
+ Provide education to the CDI staff on ICD-10 CM & ICD-10 PCS book contents, organization and how to use the books.
+ Provide education to the CDI staff on how to identify Major Comorbidities and Chronic Comorbidities in ICD-10 CM books
+ Provide education to the CDI staff on the Inpatient Prospective Payment System.
+ Provide education to the CDI staff on the use of Official Coding guidelines by specific chapter.

**Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Creates comprehensive Fee-For-Service coding and billing training materials including and not limited to CPT/ICD-10-CM coding standards and related regulations and / or policies on an ongoing basis
+ Customizes training materials to meet myriad organizational objectives and maintain compliance with established coding / billing standards and policies
+ Conducts coding and billing training for providers (clinicians and practice staff), coders, quality assurance team, and other stakeholders

**Required Qualifications:**
