Communications Specialist

This is an onsite position in Buffalo, NY.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing social media accounts to create engaging posts and grow the organization’s digital presence.
  • Writing and coordinating newsletters, press releases, and digital content that align with organizational goals and branding.
  • Attending community events, campaigns, and meetings to capture photos, impressions, and key takeaways for announcements and recaps.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with community stakeholders and staying informed about local news, culture, and issues.
  • Using tools like Canva, Adobe, and Microsoft Office Suite to design visually appealing communications materials.
  • Supporting digital campaigns, website content updates, and task management using platforms like WordPress, Mailchimp, Social Pilot, and Asana.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in communications, including professional social media management and copywriting.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse audiences on issues related to economic justice, environmental justice, and social justice.
  • A solid understanding of digital campaign organizing and community engagement strategies.
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe) and familiarity with platforms such as WordPress and Mailchimp.
  • Experience engaging with communities of color, immigrant communities, or individuals whose first language is not English is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Buffalo’s community and local history is a significant plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

**About the Team**
The Finance Regulatory Engagement & Oversight team works closely with stakeholders to drive and execute end-to-end regulatory engagement and deliverables across Citi Finance activities, which span global Finance groups, Finance functions, and technology and business partners. This global team leads engagements, identifies priorities, strategically coordinates efforts and tracks progress, while defining and implementing best practices.
**About the role**
The Internal Reporting and Communications Senior Vice President for Finance Regulatory Engagement is a strategic professional who keeps senior management apprised of ongoing regulatory interactions across Finance. As a strong manager adept at working in cross-functional teams, you will prepare written communications (e.g., newsletters), presentations and talking points related to a wide-range of financial and regulatory topics. You will be developing content that requires a high degree of fact-finding, editing and validating accuracy and ease of reading. This role requires thought leadership, diplomacy and verbal and written communication skills in order to lead and influence colleagues across the firm in producing materials that are transparent, comprehensive and clear. This role reports to the Finance Regulatory Engagement Communications and Reporting Director.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Ability to facilitate discussions and build and maintaining narratives and materials that explain end goals, iterative progress and the underlying benefits for the firm regarding remediation efforts underway.
+ Lead the development of materials and speaking points for senior management related to current activities including Finance priorities, key financial information, key regulatory interactions, progress on remediation, issues and risks.
+ Coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders throughout the firm to storyboard and coordinate information from multiple sources into comprehensive, cohesive presentations, reports or other materials for engagement with regulators (e.g., narrative prose, bullet points, PowerPoint presentations) and senior management.
+ Proactively build project plans/timelines, inform stakeholders of actions and deadlines. Proactively follow up as needed, ensuring timeliness and ownership of the overall delivery of the end product.
+ Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to identify key points to include in regulatory and senior management materials.
+ Respond to feedback and adjusting communications content accordingly.
+ Report project outcomes and/or risks to the appropriate management channels as needed-escalate issues as necessary based on project work plans.
+ Work with Management on governance and the facilitation of the execution of the Managers Control Assessment (MCA) as required by the MCA Standard including the assessment and appropriate approval of risk associated with Finance Regulatory Engagement; manage team's business continuity plan, record retention strategy and related risk and controls activities.
+ Support Regulatory Exam Management and Regulatory engagement teams, performing other duties and functions as assigned to support overall team success.
+ Appropriately assessing risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards
**Competencies:**
+ Strong leadership and communications skills; ability to lead through influence / without formal authority; well-developed interpersonal and executive communication skills, both written and verbal.
+ Experience with regulatory laws, rules and engagement/communications a plus.
+ Adept at synthesizing large amounts of information and developing concise and clear messaging.
+ Ability to manage timely deliverables, working across multiple stakeholders. Confident and has ability to structure, summarize, present project status as well as defend recommendations and outcomes.
+ Can work effectively in a team-based, collaborative leadership model; a team player who will implement initiatives effectively and motivate others to carry out their work.
+ Innovative and curious, and readily able to think outside of the box.
+ Self-starter who brings high sense of urgency to assignments and goals.
+ Comfortable with ambiguity and change and working in a large, complex organization.
+ High degree of integrity, ethics, and confidentiality.
**Qualifications:**
+ 10+ years of relevant experience in financial services, regulatory engagement or consulting.
+ Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and speaking skills, as well as creative ability to devise communication strategies.
+ Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in written responses to regulators such quarter progress reports, follow up requests or correspondence related to MRA, MRIA, exam findings or other actions is a plus.
+ Understanding and application of project management methodologies across delivery life cycle.
+ Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
+ In depth knowledge of banking products / systems highly preferred.
