The Companion is a person who possesses adequate communication skills and abilities to provide companionship to clients in the home setting. The Companion does not render any hands-on care to the client.
LINE OF AUTHORITY:
Reports directly to the registered nurse clinician.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of at least the ninth-grade level of secondary education preferred.
- Documentation on file of having received, training in topics related to human development and interpersonal relationships, nutrition, marketing, food storage, use of equipment and supplies, planning and organizing of household tasks, and principles of cleanliness and safety.
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- Demonstrates maturity and a sincere interest in the client.

Renders companion services to clients in the home setting:
- Listening

- Provide light housekeeping tasks, such as preparation of meals, and laundering the client's personal garments.

- Maintains a chronological written record of services.
- Report any unusual incidents or changes in the client's behavior to the registered nurse.

- Attains quarterly goals established by the DON at quarterly evaluation.

The right candidate will be physically fit, mentally quick, and a skilled, safe driver. Services provided are Supported Employment to assist client with his home based business of recycling and hauling, and Community Networking to assist him with community integration. The successful candidate will work two to three days during the week with an opportunity for some overnight shifts episodically throughout the year. Being “handy” and enjoying fixing things and taking things apart are a plus. Smoking is not allowed on-site or at the workplace. The first 6 1/2 + hours a day are paid starting at $24/hour. An additional 1.5-2.5 hours of a normal day start at $20/hour. Increments in pay of .50/hour will be made every six months for the first two years. Preference is for a male for this particular position.
