Trystars team members are our most important asset. We are searching for a Senior Compliance Engineering Manager to join our team. As part of the engineering team, you will see products from the engineering prototype phase to series production. You will manage a compliance engineering team ensuring Trystars electrical power solutions comply with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and certifications. You will oversee the development and implementation of compliance strategies, manage testing and certification processes, and collaborate cross-functionally to integrate compliance into product design and manufacturing. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with deep knowledge of electrical engineering, regulatory standards, and team management. In this role you will get to:

  • Regulatory Compliance. Ensure that all Trystar products meet applicable standards, including UL, NEC, IEEE, CSA, and other regional regulations.
  • Team Leadership. Manage, mentor, and develop a team of compliance engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Compliance Strategy. Develop and implement strategies to maintain compliance throughout the product lifecycle, from design to manufacturing and deployment.
  • Testing & Certification. Oversee testing processes, coordinate with third-party certification bodies (for example, NRTLs), and ensure timely certification of products.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration. Partner with commercial, engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, and quality teams to integrate compliance requirements into product development and production processes.
  • Documentation & Auditing. Maintain comprehensive records of compliance activities, prepare for audits, and address findings promptly.
  • Risk Assessment. Identify and mitigate compliance risks related to product safety, performance, and regulatory changes.
  • Continuous Improvement. Stay updated on evolving regulations and industry trends, recommending process improvements to enhance compliance efficiency.
  • Stakeholder Communication. Act as point of contact for regulatory agencies, certification bodies, and internal stakeholders on compliance matters.

Job Requirements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in compliance engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership or people management role.
  • Proven track record in electrical power systems, preferably in power distribution, conversion, or energy storage solutions.
  • Experience working with UL, NEC, IEEE, CSA, or similar standards.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory documents and translate them into actionable plans.
  • Proficient in testing methodologies and certification processes.

  • Knowledge of standards such as UL1008, UL508(A), UL1691, UL489, UL924, UL1741, UL9540, UL891, UL50E, and others.
  • Knowledge of NEMA 1, 3R, and 4X standards.
  • Familiarity with governmental regulations such as TSCA, RoHS, REACH, and Conflict Minerals.
  • Familiarity with US federal procurement regulations such as BABA, BAA, TAA, and Made in America.
  • Understanding code from NFPA 70, 101, 99, and others.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage uncertainty and competing priorities in a fast-paced technology development environment; solid technical knowledge and understanding of product/process design.
  • Ability to communicate with test engineers at high-power labs, NRTLs, and product design engineers to explain, to team-members, why a particular configuration will not work, and subsequently provide options enabling the sought certification without compromising the intended functionality.

The Role

The Compliance Engineering & Technology (CET) team at Block supports the detection and reporting of suspicious financial crimes activity across Cash App, Square, and Afterpay. We work globally with partners in business, engineering, counsel, and product to provide a safe user experience for our customers while minimizing and potentially eliminating bad activity on our platform.

You will report to the CET - Data Engineering Manager. As a Data Engineer you will handle everything from data architecture and modeling to data pipeline tooling and dashboarding. You Will

  • Work with engineering and product teams to design, develop, and manage scalable ETL pipelines to unblock new product launches.
  • Create brand new and optimize existing data models and schemas on top of Block data including but not limited to eventing, customer level, and process level data.
  • Build monitoring to assess the health of the team's infrastructure as well as data quality and lineage.
  • Participate in on-call rotation, monitor daily execution, diagnose and log issues, and fix business critical pipelines to ensure SLAs are met with internal stakeholders
  • Work with non-technical partners and product teams to understand their needs, translate business requirements into applicable data requirements, and come up with automated end-to-end solutions.
  • Standardize business and product metric definitions in curated and optimized datasets, and develop data dictionaries and other related documentation.

You Have
  • A minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or equivalent experience.

You will operate at the convergence of architecture, compliance, developer experience, and DevOps-building frameworks, tooling, and automation pipelines that enable NFRs to be first-class, auditable citizens in our engineering lifecycle. Your work will directly uplift product quality, reduce operational risk, and improve developer velocity across hundreds of services and teams.
This is a role for someone who is both technically credible and highly influential-able to define the standard, build the reference implementation, and drive cultural adoption. You'll be expected to lead by example, contribute code, influence at scale, and create environments where excellence becomes the norm.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. Direct the engineering and deployment of significant delivery projects in accordance with specified technical requirements, schedules and budgets, including Agile methodologies.
2. Oversee the planning, design, engineering, testing and deployment of application projects in conjunction with a variety of resources, which may include Waterfall or Agile approaches.
3. Develop departmental plans, including business, financial, production and/or organizational priorities based on IT and focuses on long-term operations planning and performance, and broader business objectives and priorities.
4. Apply an in-depth understanding of systems engineering and administration and a basic understanding of other IT disciplines in guiding and coaching team members.
5. Identify and resolve complex technical, operational, and organizational problems.
6. Impact results by supporting the funding of projects, products, services, and/or technologies.
7. Maintain appropriate Risk Profile through owning the first line of Risk defense, proactively identifying risks, and implementing the necessary mitigations where warranted. Partner effectively with 2nd line of defense, Auditor, and regulators to ensure Risk is identified and mitigated appropriately.
8. May play lead role or technical consultant role in large or complex projects or initiatives.
9. Has full management responsibilities for teammates: hiring, disciplinary, coaching, terminating, performance reviews.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Required Qualifications:**

4. Executive level communications skills, including, strong negotiation/facilitation/presentation skills and experience negotiating with vendors for relevant products and services
5. Ability to solve unique and highly complex technical, operational, and organizational problems
6. Ability to lead and manage the performance of multiple teams against a set of financial and operational objectives
7. Experience managing projects with enterprise-wide implications from conception through implementation
