+ Practices in accordance with all federal and state regulations, DFCI policies and Joint Commission standards.
+ Responsible for designated daily operations and/or clinical activities of assigned area.
+ Appropriately dispenses pharmaceuticals, including sterile products, chemotherapy, biologics, controlled substances, and investigational medications.
+ Evaluates all providers' medication orders for completeness and appropriateness prior to dispensing; consults with providers and nurses to clarify orders as needed.
+ Performs quality control on medication orders and prepared medications and additional quality control activities as necessary (e.g., refrigerator temperature, compounding logs, hood cleaning, emergency cart, and controlled substance inventory, etc.).
+ Reviews and compares investigational protocols to medication orders for completeness and appropriateness prior to dispensing.
+ Oversees pharmacy technicians and students as assigned.
+ Other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Education:
All Pharmacists require a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy.
Minimum Experience:
+ 1 year of pharmacist experience in a hospital pharmacy, ambulatory care, or sterile compounding,
+ Or 3 years of experience as a pharmacist in a retail pharmacy setting.
**Preferred:**
+ Experience in oncology pharmacy.
License/Certification/Registration:
Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Some satellite locations require additional licensure.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
+ Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
+ Ability to work effectively as a member of a unit team and cross functional teams both inside and outside of department (i.e. patients, providers, other institutions).
+ Working knowledge of and ability to use all technology required to perform primary job functions.
+ Ability to prioritize and accept additional responsibilities based on the changing needs of the work setting.
+ Ability to utilize references and/or drug information sources.
+ Ability to resolve typically encountered problems within their scope of practice and to escalate appropriately when needed.
+ Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills (ability to analyze information objectively and make a reasoned judgement).

Job Summary
The 503B Sterile Compounding Technician is responsible for the preparation and admixture of sterile pharmaceutical products in a highly controlled, regulated environment. This technician will undergo a stringent training program to become qualified to work in aseptic environment inside ISO 7 rooms and ISO 5 workspaces, ensuring admixtures are completed properly per FDA and cGMP requirements. The 503B Sterile Compounding Technician is also responsible for managing product inventory and supplies and is expected to maintain a highly organized clean room. This technician will work with the team to ensure compliance to standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
Job Activities and Responsibilities : The responsibilities listed below are subject to change.
- Sterile compounder must have knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), United States Pharmacopeia General Chapter <797> Pharmaceutical Compounding – Sterile Preparations, FDA regulations, and follow policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Maintain manufacturing records and completes all required documentation in compliance with cGMP, FDA, USP and pharmacy state board regulatory guidelines.
- Operate and monitor technical, computerized compounding/filling equipment ensuring quality standards are maintained.
- Responsible for weighing and mixing activities associated with the compounding of sterile medications.
- Prepare records and monitor results for pharmaceutical quality assurance testing.
- Responsible for device and/or equipment sterilization processes under pharmacist supervision.
- Position requires close attention to detail. Standards for potency, quality, purity, integrity, sterility, and endotoxin content must be consistently met.
- Monitor inventory levels for re-order of low inventory or expiring chemicals, compounds, devices and/or containers.
- Verify materials for use in batch compounding.
- Support daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of the environment with appropriate disinfectants and techniques.
- Complete end of batch reconciliation and count verification.
- Initial and ongoing aseptic technique competency evaluation must be successfully completed as required in the policies and procedures.
- Successful completion all product validations and advances complex media fill verifications.
- Other duties as assigned by department or pharmacy manager.
Minimum qualifications:
- Active pharmacy technician registration with the State Board of Pharmacy. License must be in good standing.
- Strong aseptic technique and hand-eye coordination
- 503B Sterile compounding experience (preferred)
- PTCB Certification (preferred)
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints
Physical requirements:
- Proficient in using a computer and related equipment, including printers and fax machines.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Effective communication skills via telephone and email.
- Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds as needed.
- 20/20 vision (with or without corrective aids) required for visual inspection of drug products, in accordance with legal requirements.

- Maintain competency related to performing sterile compounding
- Participate in medication management for pharmacy compounding, including medication and supply ordering, receiving, and maintenance
- Troubleshoot equipment, hardware, and software issues relating to compounding
- Participate in completing and documenting all cleaning and monitoring activities identified for areas related to sterile compounding including daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning requirements
- Work within a team to triage and respond to all compounding needs promptly
- Maintain ongoing didactic and practical training related to sterile compounding

Required Qualifications:
- Active and unrestricted Pharmacy Technician license in the state of Arizona
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (8-hour shifts between 7am-7pm weekdays with rotating weekends)
- Ability to work onsite at 23620 N 20th Dr Suite 12 Phoenix, AZ 85085 until October 2025 with the ability to work onsite at 485 N Juniper Drive Suite 2 Chandler, Arizona 85226 thereafter
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Compounded Sterile Preparations Technician (CSPT) certification
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification
- 1+ years of consistent sterile compounding experience
- Ability to work independently to solve high-stakes problems
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for up to 8 hours with intermittent breaks
- Ability to lift to 30 pounds
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders
The salary range for this role is $ 16.88 to $ 33.22 per hour based on full-time employment.
