This position proactively supports the US Navy Commander, Naval Air Force, US Atlantic Fleet's (COMNAVAIRLANT) Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT) Project. This mechanic will provide troubleshooting, assessment, mechanical repairs and testing of U.S. Navy ship AC&R systems/equipment and air compressors onboard ships. This is a full-time position, located in Norfolk, VA.
What You Will Do
+ Master understanding of production and processes. Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others.
+ May provide direction and lead others. May manage one or more multiple jobs.
+ Completes comprehension of specialty trades functions and tools. Performs a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks.
+ Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management.
+ May perform quality inspections on finished product. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.
What You Must Have
+ High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.
+ Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain base access and CAC card.
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Confidential Security Clearance.
+ Must have a current Universal EPA certification.
+ Experience troubleshooting and repairing York R-134A Reefer Compressors and 363 Ton Centrifugal Air Conditioning Compressors.
+ Must have working knowledge and experience with the following: Dresser Rand CAP 12 Ships Service Compressors (SSAC), Sauer High Pressure Air Compressors, JP-5 Pumps, Purifiers, Titanium Fire Pumps, York Refrigeration Compressors, Solid Waste Processing Equipment and Steam Hot Water Heaters.
+ Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and/or technical manuals.
+ Must have ability to train, teach and/or mentor coworkers and customer personnel in maintenance procedures and troubleshooting techniques.
Preferred: Bonus Points For
+ Prefer technical/professional certifications.
+ 10+ years of related experience.
+ A current, active DoD confidential security clearance or higher.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.

We are currently looking for experienced reciprocating and centrifugal compressor technicians upcoming projects located in Harris, Galveston, Fort Bend and Brazoria Counties.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities
- Diagnose, plan and execute repairs on compressor / driver failures accurately and efficiently.
- Complete, accurate, and timely rebuilds / overhauls of compressors, drivers and controls on compressor packages in the field.
- Work in adverse weather conditions with limited to no supervision.
- Accurately troubleshoot electrical systems, basic controls, and unit control panels.
- Assist with the installation of new units including commissioning and start-up inspections.
- Perform mechanical inspection using micrometers, pressure gauges, electronic diagnostic equipment, and other specialty tools.
- Recognize and comply with Health, Safety and Environmental rules and policies that are applicable to each location.
- Read and interpret diagrams and schematics
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and DCS diagrams
- Perform reverse alignments and laser alignments
- Respond to emergency callouts when needed.

JOB SUMMARY
Performs skilled electronic repair and maintenance of scientific equipment. Work is performed under general supervision and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:
• Performs, with a high degree of skill, mechanical and electrical layout, construction, modification, testing, adjustment, calibration, and maintenance of simple and complex electronic equipment for use in scientific research.
• Performs troubleshooting of simple and complex electronic equipment (e.g. sampling oscilloscopes, multi-channel pulse-height analyzers, nanosecond amplifiers, precision feedback electrometers, etc.)• Originates, modifies, assembles, and maintains complex schematic and wiring diagrams.• Repairs and maintains equipment through corrective and maintenance procedures.
• Operates simple machine tools and common electronic instruments and performs skilled soldering.
• Researches sources and orders parts for equipment repair.
• Prepares reports as required.
• Installs new equipment.
• Consults with faculty and staff regarding scientific equipment and computer hardware/software problems.
• Consults with maintenance centers on repairs and maintenance.
• Assists with repairs and calibration of scientific equipment.
• Assists in purchasing parts for scientific equipment.
• Assists principal investigators with obtaining service from outside vendors.
• Assists principal investigators with developing operation and maintenance procedures.
• Observes the repair process when an outside service technician repairs or maintains scientific equipment on campus. The information gained can be used in future maintenance and repair of equipment.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs other duties as requested.
EDUCATION
Associate's degree in physics, electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent technical training required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Four year experience in performing electronic work in maintenance or constructions of technical or scientific electronic equipment or in troubleshooting and repair of radio/television equipment, computer equipment, or electronic instrumentation.
REQUIREMENT
Regular and reliable attendance at the university during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position. All employees share the responsibility of maintaining information security and privacy requirements within the university by adhering to Federal and State regulations, and TWU Policies & Procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The following are essential:
