Success in the Role: What are performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

In the first 30 days, you will:

• Explore Evolv’s sensors, algorithms, and development processes

• Work to understand real-time processing, hardware limitations, and environmental constraints for the Evolv product portfolio.

• Engage in continuous learning and actively participate in peer code reviews to enhance the quality and robustness of our solutions.

• Review existing model performance metrics and areas for improvement.

Within the First Three Months:

• Utilize various data sources to create multi-sensor solutions.

• Work with the product team to gather requirements and translate these to derived requirements that guide and inform ML development efforts

• Develop state-of-the-art computer vision and deep learning solutions.

• Engage in cross-functional communication with various engineering teams to disseminate ML ideas, to inform roadmap and research priorities

By the End of the First Year:

• Design, implement, and deploy state-of-the-art CV solutions and algorithms at the edge on resource constrained hardware

• Effectively communicate with senior leadership to provide insights that shape strategic decisions.

Technical Expertise Required: Machine Learning & Computer Vision

• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field with 5+ years’ experience in computer vision/deep learning

• MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field with 10+ years’ experience in computer vision/deep learning

• Proven experience delivering scalable production models

• Strong command of emerging tools and architectures in machine learning

• Understanding of 3D camera technologies

• Expertise in sensor fusion algorithms

• Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, and other ML frameworks

• Strong programming skills in Python and C++.

• Knowledge of hardware acceleration technologies (GPU, NPU and TPU)

Where is the role located?

This role is based at our headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts. Due to the nature of our software-enabled hardware products, this position requires a minimum of 60% on-site work.

Compensation and Transparency Statement

The base salary range for this full-time position is $119,000 – $191,000. In addition to base salary, this role offers a competitive target bonus, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package. This range reflects our commitment to pay transparency and equity, in alignment with applicable state laws. Our compensation ranges are determined based on factors such as role, level, location, market benchmarks, and internal equity. The posted range represents the good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this role across U.S. locations. Actual compensation within the range will be based on the candidate’s skills, experience, education, and geographic location.

Core Responsibilities and Key Performance Objectives

• Architect and own a sustainable, end-to-end machine learning training pipeline for CV models.
• Bridge data science and MLOps by translating research models into production-ready pipelines with input from Software, Product, and Sensor teams.
• Champion and deliver edge-deployable CV models that are robust, efficient, and optimized for low-power environments in remote areas.
• Develop, deploy, and maintain multiple CV models addressing a range of environmental and sensing contexts by gathering and curating novel ML training sets.
• Lead strategic initiatives involving multimodal data fusion (e.g., combining satellite, drone, LiDAR, multispectral, low-light, and RGB camera data).
• Mentor and coach data scientists and engineers in CV fundamentals, best practices, and emerging techniques.

• Fully onboard and assess current ML training pipelines and CV infrastructure.
• Begin developing a roadmap for a robust, sustainable training system.
• Build relationships across Data Science, Software, and Sensor Hardware teams to understand pain points and opportunities.

• Deliver a working MVP of a model training pipeline tailored to LineVision's data constraints and goals.
• Guide team members through project-based mentoring and technical knowledge transfer.
• Pilot an early-stage edge-deployable CV model for field testing and establish repeatable deployment path with software and product teams.

• Stand up and document a scalable, production-grade CV training and deployment system.
• Ship multiple robust CV models in production, including at least one optimized for edge processing.
• Build a track record of successfully translating general product requirements into actionable tasks and clearly defined model performance metrics.
• Develop best-practice guidelines, model accuracy benchmarks, and reusable assets for future CV models.

• Deep experience building new CV systems from the ground up-not just optimizing components of legacy pipelines.
• Expertise in working with uncontrolled environmental imagery (e.g., outdoor, variable lighting, occlusion-heavy, and complex natural backgrounds).
• Strong knowledge of both classical and machine learning CV techniques, including feature matching, segmentation, edge detection, pose estimation, etc.
• Proficiency in Python and tools like OpenCV, scikit-image, Roboflow, and anomalib.

• Creativity and practicality in building training datasets, including the use of public datasets, synthetic imagery, and domain adaptation techniques.
• Track record of bridging model development and deployment, with comfort working across infrastructure, product, and software boundaries.
• Experience deploying ML models to edge devices with compute and power constraints.
• Strong physics intuition and ability to reason through sensor phenomena and imaging artifacts.
• Familiarity with AWS SageMaker, image labeling pipelines, and cross-sensor data fusion.
• Ability to communicate CV concepts clearly and build trust and confidence across scientific and executive teams.
