The Internal Construction Inspector plays a critical role within the Facilities Operations organization by ensuring that Capital Improvement projects executed by General Contractors (GCs), administered by the Project Implementation team, meet the highest standards of quality, adherence to specifications, and constructability. This position serves as the primary liaison between the Project Implementation Team and Facilities Operations, ensuring seamless transition and optimal long-term maintainability of newly constructed or renovated facilities. The Inspector will proactively identify potential issues before construction via 30/60/90 Design Reviews and during construction that could impact future maintenance activities, ensuring the Facilities Operations team is set up for success upon project completion and acceptance.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in 30%, 60%, and 90% design review meetings for upcoming capital projects.

  • Provide valuable input and feedback from a constructability, maintainability, and operational perspective, anticipating potential challenges during construction and identifying opportunities to optimize long-term facility performance.

  • Review design documents (drawings, specifications, narratives) for clarity, completeness, code compliance, and alignment with Facilities Operations team needs and standards.

  • Highlight potential issues related to access for maintenance, equipment placement, material selection, system integration, and future expansion or modification.

  • Collaborate with design consultants, project managers, and Facilities Operations team members to incorporate feedback and ensure designs are practical, efficient, and cost-effective from a life-cycle perspective.

  • Conduct regular on-site inspections of capital projects performed by General Contractors, verifying adherence to approved plans, specifications, codes, and industry best practices.

  • Monitor the quality of materials, workmanship, and installation for all trades, including but not limited to structural, architectural, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing), electrical, fire life safety, and civil works.

  • Identify and document, via Procore, any deviations, deficiencies, or non-conformances, and collaborate with the General Contractors via Project Managers to ensure timely and effective corrective actions.

  • Witness and verify critical installations, testing, and commissioning activities (e.g., pressure tests, equipment start-ups, functional performance tests).

  • Review and approve materials submittals, shop drawings, and RFI responses for compliance with design intent and maintainability.

  • Act as the primary advocate for the Facilities Operations team's interests throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Proactively identify and report on aspects of construction that may impact future preventative maintenance.

Essential Skills

  • 4-5 years of experience specifically as a Construction Inspector

  • 10+ years total experience in the trades

  • Hands-on experience across multiple trades (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing)

  • Strong knowledge of building codes

  • Experience interfacing with general contractors

  • Experience with capital project valuation

Work Environment

The work environment involves active participation in design review meetings and regular on-site inspections. Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on TerraPower's Natrium team. Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program, Natrium is participating in a DOE initiative to re-establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy that provides matching funding to industry to design and build an operational advanced reactor. It also features an innovative molten salt energy storage system designed to be complementary to solar and wind power by evening out the peaks and valleys in production when the sun is not shining, or the wind is not blowing. With the reactor and energy storage output combined, the plant can produce more than 500 MWe of power.
Other Team Natrium partners include GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, Energy Northwest, PacifiCorp, and Duke Energy, along with support from a number of national laboratories and universities. # Job Summary:
The Senior Construction Planner will support construction related planning and scheduling analysis and control activities expected to occur during the EPC phase of the project including:
Engineering, procurement and construction schedule development, maintenance, monitoring, impact identification, and recovery planning.
EPC phase related reporting and analysis including P6 schedule quality metrics.
Support EPC phase planning studies, forecasts, problem solving exercises.

# Education and Experience Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited university and at least 8 to 10 years of professional experience, or in lieu of a degree, a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 12 to 14 years of relevant work experience.
+ Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident of the US per contract requirements.
+ Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check including verification of employment, education, and travel.
+ Must be able to pass nuclear security screening requirements and be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear power facility.

**Job Description**
The Construction Planner provides field construction management services to include technical support, project estimation, change management documentation, scheduling input, overall construction execution, maintenance services, project turnover, and emergency coverage.
- Review conceptual documents, vendor information and design EI packages providing constructability during all phases of engineering.
- Get proper approval and document all work, including change orders, before beginning work.
- Establish deliverables at the beginning or each project, i.e., turnover packages, quality documents, schedules, cost meetings, and/or as-builts.
- Work with the client and contractors to develop accurate, professional schedules including task lists, durations, and sequencing information.
- Work with the client and contractor on project estimates. Make sure scope is clear and understood, and that estimates match the work and appear reasonable for the described work.
- Coordinate and schedule the timing for site orientation with Fluor Safety.
- Verify proper Chemical Clearance prior the bringing any chemicals on site.
- Generate complete, accurate and timely RFA (Request for Action) including clear and accurate scope, start and end dates and attachments.
- Develop overall project Sourcing plans and execution strategies.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings to describe scope in detail and answer questions.
- Organize and run Daily huddles and execution meetings.
- Monitor the work in the field for progress, performance, quality, safety, and any special requirements.
- Approve timesheets verifying that the work was performed that day, is being charged correctly.
- Approve invoices verifying work is being charged to correct WBS numbers and there is enough money in the budget to support the charges you are approving.
- Actively participate in cost and schedule meetings keeping client informed.
- Ensure that all plant permits are thoroughly understood by the contractor, and they are being used/issued properly.
- Work with client and contractors to develop downtime schedules and establish construction work areas.
- Ensure clients needs are met within our guidelines.
- Keep work areas clean, neat and organized.
- Coordinate the completion of construction activities for turnover. Prepare and track punch list and/or exception lists to ensure readiness for turnover.
- At the end of each project prepare and submit the turnover package.
- Maintain a good set of project files keeping your documentation neat and orderly.
- Make sure contractors understand and follow site standards and policies including security and auditing procedures.
- Always promote the importance of safety. Review and sign STA's to ensure they comply with site safety rules. Participate in site safety audits.
**Basic Job Requirements**
- Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and seven (7) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to eleven (11) years if non-degreed.
