Construction Representative

We have a career opportunity for a Construction Representative in Brighton, MI who will work with a broad range of construction projects with our Construction Services Group In this role you will be responsible for the daily inspection and documentation of infrastructure projects including road, bridge, water main, and sewer construction, as well as play an important role in managing client relationships. You will also contribute to strategic initiatives that drive the growth of the construction group.

This position anticipates that you bring some experience with you, being able to lead the inspection or oversight of significant construction tasks with a high level of independence. This position provides progression towards managing multiple project tasks and becoming a project manager.

Location

This position provides a flexible work schedule, with three days working from the Brighton, MI office and two days remotely.

The Impact You Will Have
  • Responsible for overseeing one or more key tasks on construction projects and complying with all project and company safety guidelines.
  • Perform construction inspection and documentation and communicate if the work observed appears in compliance with project requirements.
  • Prepare inspector's daily reports and other project documentation as required by the project procedures, and being the example for documentation that supporting staff will refer to and checking their work.
  • Report on progress of work, including technical issues, status of work remaining to be done and any noted deficiencies.
  • Be the main point of contact at the field level for the Benesch team, as well as, preparing calculations and supporting sketches for project documentation.
  • Perform basic documentation audits, log, track and/or prepare responses to submittals and RFI's, and perform materials testing including concrete testing and density testing.
  • Write meeting minutes and conduct select project meetings and participating in client events and relative association activities.
  • Assist with client relationships, as well as, assisting with writing responses to Requests for Proposals from clients.

What We Are Looking For
  • BS in Civil or Construction Engineering or in a related engineering curriculum required, EIT preferred.
  • 6+ years of working experience with DOT is preferred.
  • Recent college grads are highly encouraged to apply!
  • Experience working on field projects desired.
  • Provide oversight and training of junior staff on projects.
  • Excellent communication and intrapersonal skills.
  • Strong organization and ability to perform services efficiently and within budgets and schedules.

**Role and Scope of Position:**
Responsible for oversight of construction contractor activities in accordance to project plans and specifications for projects at Eversource. Observes and inspects construction contractors in the field to ensure adherence to specifications, codes, state/local siting conditions, contract documents, environmental regulations, and safety regulations. **Essential Functions:**
+ Individual is assigned projects requiring close stakeholder interaction such as substation expansion projects, transmission line re-build projects, or other system enhancement projects.
+ Ensures compliance with environmental programs, policies, rules and regulations.
+ Ensures contractor compliance with Eversource standards and procedures.
+ Drive accountable for the safe completion of all work efforts. Sets safety expectations among and between his/her peers. Resolves safety issues/concerns in an appropriate and timely manner. Communicates safety lessons learned and promotes continuous learning of safe work methods, practices, and procedures.
+ Performs Safety observations to ensure contractor compliance with Eversource safety standards.
+ (On site - oversight) Manages contract field construction and maintenance activities at transmission and distribution facilities in accordance with approved project documents, established engineering practices, Federal, State and local laws, and construction industry standards to achieve world-class field construction performance.
+ Providing daily reports to Construction management on project progress, cost and schedule metrics, procurement issues, safety or environmental concerns, design questions, potential project impacts

+ Reviews project material requirements to identify items that have not been ordered to support the construction project. Coordinate delivery of materials to construction site.

  • Certification by the Louisiana Transportation Research Center in the inspection of Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) paving, structural concrete, embankment and base course, asphaltic concrete, or other material as required by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) for inspection services provided on state projects.

Hours of Work and Travel:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, requiring 40+ hours per week. Travel, nights and weekend commitments to the firm, its associates and clients are required.


Work Environment :

While performing the duties of this job, the associate may be in a combination of office and project site field environments and may be exposed to weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate. Associate may be exposed to extensive noise, dust, smells, weather, and other environmental factors typically present at a project site and may be required to use safety glasses or hearing protection when in this work environment or to perform specific tasks.


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs or structures, balance, stoop, and kneel; Occasional lifting of items not to exceed 50 lbs. We have a career opportunity for a Construction Representative who will work with a broad range of construction projects. In this role you will be responsible for the daily inspection and documentation of infrastructure projects including road, water main, and sewer construction, as well as play an important role in managing client relationships.
