Responsible for measuring, layout, inspection and documentation of heavy civil construction projects. Someone who can establish line and grade for field crew construction of clearing limits, earthwork, utilities, curb & gutter, paving and as built plans utilizing the latest in Trimble GPS and drone technology. The ideal candidate will have a firm grasp on the methods, principles, and practice of surveying. This role reports directly to the Director of Preconstruction.
o Perform surveying and mapping duties to be used to establish line and grade for field crew construction of clearing limits, earthwork, utilities, curb & gutter, paving, as built plans, mining, or other purposes utilizing the latest in Trimble GPS and drone technology.
o Establish fixed points to be used by field crews for use in constructing Heavy Civil projects, using geodetic, drone and engineering instruments.
o Maintain GPS and surveying instruments to maintain accuracy and proper GPS field data versions in the respective GPS enabled construction equipment.
o Establish horizontal and vertical controls that are required for site limits and heavy civil construction.
o Verify the accuracy of construction data, including measurements and calculations conducted at construction sites.
o Coordinate findings with the work of the Preconstruction Manager, Project Managers, engineering and architectural personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects.
o Perform survey activities in a safe and effective manner.
o Participate in a variety of special survey projects as assigned.
o Ability to construct GPS models a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- High School Diploma or GED
- BS degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Geospatial Sciences, or a related field preferred.
- Surveying and Drone license a plus.
- Proven experience as a Construction Surveyor or similar role.
- Working knowledge of Trimble GPS systems, Topcon and other surveying equipment.
- Ability to read plans.
- Excellent math and IT skills.
- Experience with AutoCAD, RTS, Machine control

**PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Coordinate with Lead Surveyor and project team on daily company & project needs
+ Setup and operate Robotic GPS point equipment, such as Trimble and/or GPS Total Stations.
+ Handle and carry up to 50 pounds of GPS equipment at jobsites on various terrain.
+ Locate and mark points throughout the jobsite for Electrical and Low Voltage Systems.
+ Uploading and downloading of data collectors and capable of using all functions of the Robotic GPS equipment and data collectors, depending on the needs of the project.
+ Establish checkpoints prior to shooting points to maintain/confirm 1/16" tolerance.
+ Ability to carry control throughout the project and maintain 1/16" tolerance.
+ Work closely with the BIM/VDC department, on-site Operation and General Contractor teams to address any problems/issues.
+ Construction and/or Survey experience with concentration on commercial/industrial projects.
+ Perform all work while adhering to all company and jobsite safety rules and regulations.
+ Recommend and implement improved work processes and procedures.
+ Develop and execute Surveyor training for project assigned users.
+ Other duties as assigned
**POSITION REQUIREMENTS:**
+ High School diploma/GED required.
+ Minimum 1 Year Experience in the use of Robotic GPS equipment/Surveying in Commercial Construction industry is a plus.
+ AutoCAD MEP/Revit Software is a plus. (Will provide on the job training)
+ Good Mathematical and Problem-Solving Skills that relate to the use and operation of Robotic GPS equipment.
+ Must have reliable transportation.

Turner & Townsend are seeking an experienced and personable Senior Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic Los Angeles team, supporting a diverse range of projects across multiple sectors, including data centers, life sciences, commercial real estate, and healthcare.
