Reporting into the Innovation and Development Manager, the Product Development Specialist - Coatings will be based out of Ashtabula, Ohio and will be responsible for providing developmental, technical support to our customer base in the Coatings markets and provide start-up support to Operations when projects are scaled up to production quantities.
Responsibilities include:
- Set a positive example with respect to safety and overall professional performance.
- Prepare project plans, periodic reports, and Gate Review information to allow smooth transition of new products from development through scale up to Operations.
- Designing, planning and executing project elements in the laboratory and plant, as well as in customers' plants and laboratories, if needed, to meet customer requirements and expectations.
- Being responsible for the completion of bench work and processing work necessary to convert opportunities or to resolve issues through formulation.
- Directly interfacing with vendors and/or customers to define and convert opportunities and resolve issues.
- Providing effective and timely communication at every stage of a project. This will include (but will not be limited to) progress reports, updates, and project milestones reached or missed.
- Accompany commercial sales on customer visits for collaboration opportunities and/or development opportunities.
- Work independently and in collaboration with other team members to meet project goals with accelerated schedules and significant commercial impact.
- Compose presentations and reports to internal/external parties
- Perform laboratory, pilot-scale and manufacturing work involving the development and/or scale up of dispersion products and processes for a multitude of coatings applications.
- Coaching and reviewing the work of lower level professionals.
- Comply with safety rules and regulations, lead/support safety meetings and training, inspects work area for hazards/deficiencies and initiates action to correct them. Also, reports injury/illness and/or environmental incidents.
- Maintain lab notebooks to organize, analyze, and record work product
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience:
- BS/BA in an appropriate field of science (MS in Chemistry or Chem. Eng. preferred).
- 3+ years technical experience in the coatings industry.
- Nominal understanding of color science with experience in the area of dispersion, wetting, and additive activity.
- Ability to analyze, design and implement projects.
- Ability and willingness to travel occasionally, on short notice.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications as required.
Preferred Experience:
- Good interpersonal skills with ability to work with and support colleagues, analyze and solve problems, control resources and implement programs, and possess project management skills.
- Knowledge of critical chemical functionalities for waterborne/solvent born architectural and industrial urethanes, epoxies, acrylics polyester chemistries with respect to coatings industries.
- Willingness and ability to continuously increase and maintain skills and knowledge in significant work areas.

Specific Responsibilities Would IncludeThe Product Development Coordinator, reporting to the Product Development Manager, supports the product development process from initial design concept through production. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely production of samples that meet both aesthetic and customer requirements. Additionally, the coordinator collaborates with the cross functional teams that include Production, Design, Sales, and our Overseas Offices to develop and execute assigned product lines.
- The Product Development Coordinator will help to facilitate the development process for the Kids Sportswear Division.
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to; Setting up and maintaining seasonal approval charts, communicating with overseas vendors on product submissions including lab dips, strike offs, sales samples and pre-production samples. Ensuring quality and integrity of the brands are maintained to standard.
- Collaborate with Design teams and Technical Designers to ensure garment constructions, design details, and art placement are met to the design concept at fit stage.
- Partner with Design, Production, and Sales team to ensure that development stays on schedule per design calendar.
- Evaluate initial tech packs through PLM with the Design team, ensuring all details are executable by factories.
- Schedule proto review meetings with the Design team to review all garment constructions, design details, and art placement ensuring the actual garment reflects the designer’s vision.
- Catalog and maintain fabric, print and trim standard libraries for future references.
- Comprehensive understanding of the entire Product Development cycle and all milestones
- Working knowledge of garment construction, sewing techniques and seam classifications
- Technical knowledge of fabric qualities, finishes, printing and art embellishments for all product categories
- Understanding of Child Safety Guidelines
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; highly detail oriented, meticulous and creative
- Proficient in FlexPLM, Microsoft Office, knowledge of Adobe Illustrator a plus
- Superior organizational and communication skills; team oriented
- Ability to work in a fast pace, high performance environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and accountability

2. Introduction of new products and processes within factories. Collaborate and influence internal and external project teams (Teams are made up of R&D, Product Developers, Project Managers, Quality, Regulatory, Engineering, Packaging, Factories, Marketing, Co-Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Supply Chain, etc.) to develop, industrialize, and launch Innovation and Renovation projects.
-Provide working equipment / product knowledge guidance and support to the Factory / R&D / Engineering resources during the development of new technology and processes
3. Continuously improve/optimize current products and processes within factories according to local business needs and supply situation and/or implementation of initiatives. Lead technical projects including technical assistance, sourcing, quality improvements, compliance, and productivity cost savings. This includes establishing and managing timelines, uncovering roadblocks, defining critical paths, and identifying resource constraints.
4. Ensure adherence to all products, processes, materials standards. Comply with Nestle requirements (includes 60/40+), external standards, and local regulatory framework. Identify, influence, and lead the development of the product and process standards within the Nestle systems.
-Act as Quality Lead for various projects as assigned. This includes practical application of HACCP/Food Safety fundamentals, new material onboarding, allergen/claims validation and process capability.
5. Continuous improvement of technical skills and personal development, while being a proactive affiliate member of a Nestle Expert Network and/or external networks. Acts as an ambassador for Nestle USA TAG when representing globally or externally.
6. Develop expertise for product and process mastership within TAG Assist in the development of competencies and training materials required for product/process mastership to enable manufacturing excellence. This includes knowledge and formula expertise in both product and process. Helps to build capability and process mastery within the factory and TAG. Represents TAG in general conversations as a SME on manufacturing finished product.
7. Provide first line support to factories.
-Especially in the areas of ingredient, recipe and processing to ensure consistent production of high-quality products for the consumer.
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
-A BS or MS degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering.
-Position requires approximately 25% travel.

- Manage creation and/or acquisition of outsourced product assets such as illustrations or stock photos
- Coordinate with Marketing Team for creating marketing materials
- Manage work tickets in Asana and artwork file revision controls
- Create SKUs and drive replacement parts planning with cross-functional teams including Operations, Marketing, and Customer Experience
- Create Product Description sheets for new products and keep them up to date
- Coordinate with Design, Engineering, Quality and Compliance teams to ensure the products meet the global regulatory requirements
- Manage translations of printed items and maintain the translation database for our global markets
- Communicate product details to Customer Experience (CX) team
Attributes:
- Experience working with physical products
- Experience in managing the creation of printed materials including copy, photos and illustrations is a plus

Responsibilities
Product Design & Innovation
- Lead the development of new commercial lines insurance products and enhance existing products.
- Translate underwriting strategies into policy forms, endorsements, applications and related materials.
- Monitor market trends, competitor offerings, and legal/regulatory/judicial changes to inform product enhancements.
- Draft and review policy forms and endorsements to ensure legal soundness and clarity.
- Coordinate within internal legal and compliance department to validate state-specific regulatory adherence.
- Partner with actuarial to align form language and risk appetite.
- Support underwriting and claims with coverage interpretations, training, and documentation.
- Collaborate with IT and operations teams to implement policy changes into systems and processes.
- Lead internal initiatives for product standardization, innovation pilots, or compliance audits.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, or a related field is required.
Skills and Experience
- 7+ years of commercial lines insurance experience.
- At least 3+ years in a product development or related role.
- Expertise in policy drafting, coverage analysis, and insurance law.
- Exceptional legal drafting, communication, and analytical skills.
- Deep understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks across states.
- Familiarity with ISO circulars, and bureau-based product frameworks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with product lifecycle management tools (i.e. Mozart) is a plus.
