# Project Overview:
Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on TerraPower's Natrium team. Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor demonstration Program, Natrium is participating in a DOE initiative to re-establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy that provides matching funds to industry to design and build an operational advanced reactor. TerraPower, a leading advanced generation technology company founded by former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, will be deploying its 345 MWE sodium fast reactor (SFR), called Natrium. The Natrium Demonstration plant features an advanced, cost-competitive reactor design that is safer, easier and less costly to construct, less expensive to operate, and able to provide energy that is competitive with fossil fuels. It also features an innovative molten salt storage output, combined, the plant can produce more than 500 MWE. The Natrium Demonstration plant will be licenced by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
# Job Summary:
In this role, you will participate in the design, development, and evaluation of control systems components and processes. You will collaborate and support other engineering disciplines for control systems matters. Your professional work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard control systems engineering techniques will enable you to make impactful contributions to the team. This position is performed under the leadership of a Control Systems Engineering supervisor, lead or designee.
# Major Responsibilities:
+ Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Control Systems engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria
+ Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines
+ Specifies instrumentation and control valves for various plant systems
+ Generates instrument and control valve data sheets and material requisitions
+ Performs technical bid evaluations
+ Reviews supplier-provided data and documentation
+ Generates and applies Instrument Installation Details (IIDs)
+ Prepares and reviews control cabinet/panel layouts
+ Prepares instrument location drawings (from 3D model)
+ Designs and reviews Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for various plant systems
+ Prepares and reviews control narratives
+ Prepares and reviews control logic diagrams
+ Works within various Control Systems databases (e.g., Instrument Index, I/O list, etc.)
# Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or related engineering field from an accredited university and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.

**What You Will Do:**
+ Analyze and address sophisticated automation equipment challenges to provide effective control system solutions to an assortment of new and existing automated process equipment while focusing on growing equipment reliability and operational performance of equipment such as conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, and other devices and programs.
+ Understand, maintain and address material handling control systems, including PLC controllers and industrial networks such as motor control systems, servo drives, variable frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems
+ Partner with FC Operations leadership, equipment vendors and parts suppliers to complete root cause analysis, formulate solutions, and coordinate solution implementation. Act as the technical consultant for Automation and Control projects inside the building
+ Observe MHE metrics and partner with maintenance/operations for system performance issues and provide analysis across all FC's
+ Act as first level issue support for the Facilities Techs/Leads, during and after business hours, solving locally and remotely and repair all hardware or controls software systems within the building
+ Appropriately increase downtime situations to vendors or Automation and Engineering Leadership for support to restore equipment operation.
+ Train and mentor new technicians in operational procedures, including in the use of safety equipment and safety hazards as well as ensuring compliance with safety and organization policies including OSHA standards and 5-S.
**What You Will Need:**
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Sciences, Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other related engineering.
+ Proven record within an industrial controls' environment which includes PLC programming, I/O, communication networks and AC, DC, single / three-phase.
+ Experienced with Rockwell Automation Software, Allen-Bradley RS Logix PLC software.
+ Confirmed understanding with Conveyors, Mechanical Systems and Sorter systems and have a detailed understanding of Process Flow of Fulfillment Centers.
+ Must have knowledge demonstrating electrical knowledge of 24v AC/DC control circuits, digital multimeters and functions and experience with 120v power and control circuits, knowledge of 277v-480v power circuits and ability to wire-up and efficiently operate a 3-phase motor.
+ Ability to read, understand and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and plumbing schematics, along with knowledge in mechanical and architectural drawings.
+ Must be available for 24/7 for emergency situations

The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Description
The Control Systems Engineer position will develop new electro-mechanical motion control devices with sub-micron precision. This role will require the ability to architect and provide "turn-key" solutions to our customers. This position will provide guidance and technical support to customers, gather requirements, assess feasibility, and provide holistic system design input to the design team. Pre-sale support will be an essential part of this job, which will require this position to lead technical discussion in the conception phase of development. This position will be responsible for defining a motion system that meets customer expectations and design requirements. Successful candidates must be able to determine motors, drives, and controllers that will meet specifications, specify and design associated cables and circuitry to support system development, tune, optimize and validate systems to meet movement profiles on linear and rotary systems across a range of sizes and performance specifications.

5+ years' experience applied to mechatronics systems.
5+ years' experience with motion system design as it relates to electro-mechanical assemblies.
5+ years' experience with linear or rotary electro-mechanical actuator.
Experience working with customers and partners to gather system level requirements.

Experience with signal processing, Fourier analysis, Bode Plots, and controls theory.
3D CAD experience is preferred.
Python, C++, C, or C# experience.

**Your Skills and Expertise**

+ Three (3) years of experience working with machine control system design and commissioning in a **private, public, government, or military environment**

We are seeking a Control Systems and Signal Processing Engineer to join our Physical Sciences & Systems business unit located a stone's throw from seaside Newport, Rhode Island. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to developing and evaluating signal processing and control algorithms in MATLAB, prototyping new capabilities and evaluating performance in simulation, analyzing data from real systems, and supporting evaluation and test both in-lab and in the field. The ideal candidate enjoys a multi-disciplinary role and is comfortable adapting to and identifying new technologies as needed.
**What You Will Do:**
+ Develop and implement control systems, signal processing. and physical system representations primarily in MATLAB and SIMULINK.
+ Lead research and development in technical areas including supporting proposal and program planning efforts.
+ Collaborate with a cross-functional team testing your contributions and analyzing performance.
+ Integrate components you develop into a larger system in preparation for real world testing and deployment.
+ Participate in system testing (on-site and at our customer's sites), associated data analysis, and reporting.

**Qualifications You Must Have:**
+ Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience **or** an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience **or** in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
+ Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
