Job Description
As a SPG Financial Controller - Associate, within the Firmwide Financial Controller team, you are responsible for the oversight of the financial statements and management reporting, ensuring a sound control environment. To be successful in this role, you will need to understand and apply the accounting treatments and ensure compliance with appropriate corporate and regulatory requirements. You will also coordinate the preparation of quarterly regulatory requirements and validate financial statement items and understand their usage.
The most common functions and activities owned by Firmwide Financial Controllers include but are not limited to the following: financial analysis, consolidation, reporting, balance sheet reconciliation/certification/substantiation, general ledger reconciliation reporting & governance, inter-entity control and governance, manual accounting/bookings to the general ledger and operating systems, and executing the month end close process.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work closely with line of asset business controllers, financial control, product controllers, technology, operations and legal entity controllers
- Partner with FFC teams globally
- Assist in the thorough assessment of the issues and outcomes & clearly communicate financial information to the lines of businesses and able to flag potential issues
- Take part in hands-on engagement in special projects
- Ensure the accuracy and validity of line of business general ledger balance sheet accounts, including adherence to the Firmwide General Ledger Attestation (GLA) standards
- Oversee preparation of the firm's primary financial statements at quarter-end for use in the earnings release and Securities Exchange Commission filings
- Understand end-to-end flow of trading activities, booking models, product configurations, and trade economics to apply relative accounting policies and enhance control framework
- Identify process and/or infrastructure enhancements and work with stakeholders enact change
- Perform various control procedures to ensure the integrity of reported financial results
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts around data quality review and external reporting improvement projects
- Mobilize change wherever possible in order to simplify processes and enhance controls
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Capabilities:
- Experience in Product Control, Financial Control or knowledge of SEC reporting/Reg Reporting
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations
- A minimum of 4 years accounting or industry experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- Proficient Excel
- Strong skills in time management, problem solving, written and oral communication
- Team player with ability to work effectively across diverse functions, locations and businesses

- Computer skills/knowledge in Alteryx, tableau and SQL a plus

**Job responsibilities**
+ Identify key risks and trends impacting the wholesale credit portfolio, which includes the Commercial & Investment Bank, Asset & Wealth Management and risk-rated businesses within Consumer and Community Banking
+ Support monthly close of Wholesale credit data & deliver periodic reports, metrics and executive level content to senior management
+ Develop subject matter expertise in key portfolio's such as Wholesale Criticized, Non-Performing, Past Due, Net Charge offs and Pending Commitments
+ Assist with monthly and quarterly credit risk update for the RM&C leadership team and Firm's CFO to prepare for quarterly Earnings Presentations
+ Produce data metrics for key external disclosures, including Earnings Press Release and support variance commentary requests from stakeholders
+ Participate in ad-hoc special projects as needed in the RM&C space
+ Utilize intelligent solutions (e.g. Alteryx, Tableau) to support analytics
+ Engage with LOB partners and key stakeholders across Risk and Finance on various internal and external reporting agenda's, including data quality initiatives
**Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills**
+ Bachelor's degree
+ Comfortable working with large datasets and producing executive level content
+ Excellent presentation skills, including the ability to create executive level content
+ Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau, Alteryx), LLM suites and intermediary knowledge of Microsoft Office
+ Enjoys collaboration and building strong partnerships; excellent interpersonal skills needed for working within a team environment as well as communicating across departments
+ Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and attention to detail with focus on quality of deliverables
+ Curious, Creative, problem solver and analytical, with a control mindset

+ Experience in risk and/or financial reporting and analysis is a plus

As a Control Manager - Senior Associate within Corporate Controllers, you'll be responsible for ensuring the function has a sustainable and disciplined end-to-end control environment, identifying and escalating issues with a sense of urgency, and partnering with the business to ensure issues are remediated in a timely manner.
**Job responsibilities:**
+ Partner with stakeholders to evaluate and perform an end-to-end analysis of the business' risk and control environment to identify significant gaps and weaknesses and determine root cause of control breaks
+ Ensure that controls are properly designed, operating effectively, and essential to a proactive risk and control culture that leverages proven evaluation strategies and sound change management protocols
+ Support ad-hoc control agenda initiatives including risk-based process reviews, with a particular focus on advancing technologies and the use of AI and Machine Learning tools
+ Partner with Internal Audit and Operational Risk during audits/reviews
+ Drive continuous improvement and efficiency with use of business intelligence tools
**Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:**
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
+ 4 years of experience in financial services industry with background in controls, audit, quality assurance, operational risk management, or compliance; or equivalent subject matter expertise in a relevant business related function/operation
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
