About the Job
Supports plant operations through optimization and troubleshooting the industrial control system. Primary duties include editing PLC and SCADA code, updating electrical designs, and assisting electrical maintenance with troubleshooting. Collaborates with process engineering, production, and maintenance to improve plant reliability. Monitors industrial control system KPIs and takes corrective action to maintain system health. Manages small control system project like adding instruments.
+ Troubleshoot and Optimize Industrial Control System: PLC - Diagnosing and fixing issues with PLC hardware and software, including identifying faulty components and correcting programming errors. SCADA - Updating SCADA to accurately reflect changes to the PLC system. Basic SCADA troubleshooting. Motor controls & Instruments - assist electrical maintenance with motor and instrument troubleshooting. Troubleshoot and program VFDs.
+ Maintain Control System Health: Use KPIs like PID loop percent time in auto and alarm frequency to monitor control system health. Identify and execute corrective actions to keep KPIs within acceptable ranges. Audit electrical rooms and areas for safety compliance and enter corrective actions for maintenance follow-up.

Required Qualifications

The **Process Controls Engineer** is responsible for designing and maintaining Process Control Systems that typically include Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. These systems provide direct, real-time or simulated control of plant production; typically controlling multiple physical devices such as motors and valves, and receiving feedback from multiple devices such as temperature, pressure and position transducers.
**Responsibilities**

+ Gathers information concerning the capabilities of process control systems and investigate technical capabilities.

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Refinery Process Controls Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in optimizing refinery operations by designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced control systems. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contribute to the efficiency, safety, and reliability of our refinery processes.
The job requires someone who is very proficient with Rockwell (AllenBradley) PLC’s and Honeywell Safety Manager SIS systems. Experience with Rockwell’s AAdvance SIS systems would also be a plus. Proficiency means someone who can actually understand PLC logic enough to troubleshoot at a detailed level and do at least basic programming if needed.
Proficiency in Honeywell DCS is not required, but would also be a plus for this position.

SUMMARY
This position will be responsible for the design, configuration, integration and implementation of control systems in both continuous and batch chemical manufacturing processes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety.
• Participates in the PACE culture of safety.
• Develop preliminary scope for the instrument and control portion of capital and maintenance projects.
• Communicate with vendors to determine applicability of products.
• Provide technical support to maintenance instrument supervisors and technicians.
• Provide technical help to investigate equipment and system failures and recommend corrective actions.
• Identifies the technologies to be used for new applications, and extensions of current architectures
• Must be capable of detailed design generation, implementation, integration, testing and on-site startup of systems
• Technical resource for DCS, PLC, and SIS systems
• Maintain backups of process control systems
• DCS graphics building and control language programming
• Focus on alarm management and reduction of nuisance alarms
• Involved in process control network setup and configuration
• Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Controls Engineering or Chemical Engineering preferred, or educational certificate and 5+ years of hands on DCS programming/configuration experience required.

**Responsibilities**
+ The Automation Engineer will be the go-to person for new process improvement recommendations and designs and critical troubleshooting events, and new process improvement recommendations and designs
+ Take ownership of all the automation aspects of our equipment
+ Gather data on manufacturing processes, analyzing them for optimal improvement opportunities.
+ Develop upgrade plans for manufacturing equipment and roll them out on all like equipment.
+ Create PID loops for critical process controls to improve process capabilities
+ Build SCADA and MES solutions to improve our manufacturing efficiency and help drive strategic process improvements
+ Develop a thorough understanding of the processes at our facilities
+ Grow knowledge of the facility team and gain their trust
+ Take a hands-on approach to improvements
+ Improve uptime on manufacturing equipment
+ Increase production speed at the current quality requirements and uptime
+ Isolate critical data outputs of the process and define indicators of key process performance
+ Foster strong relationships with members of the operations team and vendors
+ Work at all levels across the organization
+ Grow expertise in Automation, MES, Industry 4.0 and IIoT
**Qualifications**
+ BS or greater in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or STEM related field.
+ 3-5 years of hands-on experience in process or manufacturing engineering, with a track record of driving operational excellence
+ Proven experience with any of the following PLCs: Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, AutomationDirect, Mitsubishi, Omron, Aromat, or Toshiba but Allen Bradley is preferred
+ Experience with all Rockwell software packages including but not limited to RS Logix 5, 500 and 5000, Factory Talk view designer, RS Networks, Panelbuilder, kepserver and related communications packages.
+ Familiar with motion controls systems, servos and modern sensor types and uses.
+ Experience in HMI and/or Operator Interface programming and configuration of any of the following software packages Ignition, Wonderware, Intellution, Factory Talk View, GE Cimplicity, Ci-Tech, Iconics, Siemens, or US Data is a requirement for this role, and Ignition is preferred
+ Proven record of successfully operating independently with little or no direct supervision
+ Demonstrated ability to analyze processes looking for improvements in efficiency as well as product quality, layout of equipment, workflow and safety.
+ Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and database software
+ Familiar with industrial networking technologies including Ethernet/IP, Controlnet and Devicenet
+ Familiar with all aspects of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic machine systems (power sources, energy control, motion devices)
+ Proficient with CAD drawing packages and able to create from new schematics from scratch (preferrable) and/or update drawing packages as needed
+ Develop training and technical documents to present and/or instruct others on new process changes or machine modifications.
+ Six sigma certification is a strong plus
About the work environment:
+ You will work in both office and manufacturing environments. Battery manufacturing employs chemicals, heat and heavy equipment, and as such you will at times be exposed to lead, fumes, noise, dirt, hazards, and chemicals, and in all cases will be provided with appropriate PPE.
+ You must be able to see, hear and speak; able to sit, stand for at least two hours at a time, sit, bend, crawl, squat, kneel and climb able to use both arms and hands to use a computer and peripherals and lift 40 pounds from floor level, able to work below ground level in confined spaces and on stationary or mobile elevated platforms, able to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, able to climb stairs.

**kW Mission Critical Engineering** , a WSP USA company, is currently initiating a search for a **Building Automation and Controls Engineer** for our kW Chicago, IL and Milwaukee, WI offices.
As a Building Automation Controls Engineer with us, you will work with senior engineers to design automation control and monitoring systems serving data centers. Applications include heat rejection systems such as industrial air handling units and chilled water plants as well as integration to intelligent HVAC and electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS). Design activities include drawing and specification development for control products, points lists, and sequence of operations.

+ Work in a team or independently, planning and executing engineering tasks within projects

**Who You Are**
The ideal candidate will possess experience with building type HVAC systems or process control applications from a controls systems vendor, commissioning agent, or design consultant. Candidates should have strong communication skills, and an interest in liaising with internal and external design, client, and construction team members.
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering
+ 7+ years of experience in designing building automation control systems for commercial, industrial, or mission critical facilities
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Experience with applicable software packages including AutoCAD, Revit
+ Knowledge of building, mechanical, electrical and energy codes
+ Ability to organize and present design information to project staff
+ Attention to detail, highly organized, self-starter
+ Ability to travel to project sites
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
