**Overview**
Your presence must be felt in the facility as you drive the facility engineering and manufacturing teams. You will guide, design, spec, install, and program new automation investments and highlight high-potential investment areas. Reporting to the Automation Engineering Manager, you are the facility automation expert and will share improvements with other automation engineers in our other manufacturing facilities.

**Responsibilities**
+ The Automation Engineer will be the go-to person for new process improvement recommendations and designs and critical troubleshooting events, and new process improvement recommendations and designs
+ Take ownership of all the automation aspects of our equipment
+ Gather data on manufacturing processes, analyzing them for optimal improvement opportunities.
+ Develop upgrade plans for manufacturing equipment and roll them out on all like equipment.
+ Create PID loops for critical process controls to improve process capabilities
+ Build SCADA and MES solutions to improve our manufacturing efficiency and help drive strategic process improvements
+ Develop a thorough understanding of the processes at our facilities
+ Grow knowledge of the facility team and gain their trust
+ Take a hands-on approach to improvements
+ Improve uptime on manufacturing equipment
+ Increase production speed at the current quality requirements and uptime
+ Isolate critical data outputs of the process and define indicators of key process performance
+ Foster strong relationships with members of the operations team and vendors
+ Work at all levels across the organization
+ Grow expertise in Automation, MES, Industry 4.0 and IIoT
**Qualifications**
+ BS or greater in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or STEM related field.
+ 3-5 years of hands-on experience in process or manufacturing engineering, with a track record of driving operational excellence
+ Proven experience with any of the following PLCs: Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, AutomationDirect, Mitsubishi, Omron, Aromat, or Toshiba but Allen Bradley is preferred
+ Experience with all Rockwell software packages including but not limited to RS Logix 5, 500 and 5000, Factory Talk view designer, RS Networks, Panelbuilder, kepserver and related communications packages.
+ Familiar with motion controls systems, servos and modern sensor types and uses.
+ Experience in HMI and/or Operator Interface programming and configuration of any of the following software packages Ignition, Wonderware, Intellution, Factory Talk View, GE Cimplicity, Ci-Tech, Iconics, Siemens, or US Data is a requirement for this role, and Ignition is preferred
+ Proven record of successfully operating independently with little or no direct supervision
+ Demonstrated ability to analyze processes looking for improvements in efficiency as well as product quality, layout of equipment, workflow and safety.
+ Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and database software
+ Familiar with industrial networking technologies including Ethernet/IP, Controlnet and Devicenet
+ Familiar with all aspects of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic machine systems (power sources, energy control, motion devices)
+ Proficient with CAD drawing packages and able to create from new schematics from scratch (preferrable) and/or update drawing packages as needed
+ Develop training and technical documents to present and/or instruct others on new process changes or machine modifications.
+ Six sigma certification is a strong plus
About the work environment:
+ You will work in both office and manufacturing environments. Battery manufacturing employs chemicals, heat and heavy equipment, and as such you will at times be exposed to lead, fumes, noise, dirt, hazards, and chemicals, and in all cases will be provided with appropriate PPE.
+ You must be able to see, hear and speak; able to sit, stand for at least two hours at a time, sit, bend, crawl, squat, kneel and climb able to use both arms and hands to use a computer and peripherals and lift 40 pounds from floor level, able to work below ground level in confined spaces and on stationary or mobile elevated platforms, able to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, able to climb stairs.

**Essential Qualifications:**
+ 3-5 years working knowledge of PC operating systems, Networking systems, and High-Level programming languages.
+ 3-5 years knowledge of PLC systems, DCS systems, MMI systems, and Historians.
+ Experience preferred in Honeywell and DeltaV, and others such as CTI Workshop, Siemens 505, APT, and Systems Administration or sysadmin.

About the Job
Supports plant operations through optimization and troubleshooting the industrial control system. Primary duties include editing PLC and SCADA code, updating electrical designs, and assisting electrical maintenance with troubleshooting. + Work with plant management, engineers, maintenance and contractors and to provide expert guidance; leadership and assistance to facility Control System Specialists, upgrade projects, troubleshooting, etc.Communicate and maintain proper documentation related to the DCS system status, changes, and coordinate and conduct conduct personnel training for such related items as necessary.
+ Provide technical support for process safety efforts, such as Process Hazard Assessment and Management of Change.
+ Investigate new technology, along with methods to improve cybersecurity and system performance as it relates to automation.Provide automation solution estimates to project managers, facility engineers, and others.
+ Provide support to Capital projects, including expansion, regulatory and modification projects, working as SME for Process Control Network
+ Support control system and safety instrumented system, programmable logic controller, maintenance and test planning as required, software upgrades, emergency shutdown testing, offline and online testing, and coordination of activities with or without plant shutdowns.
+ Expert on control system networking and industrial instrumentation devices.
+ Understanding of networking protocols

**Ideal Background**
**Education:** Degree in Electrical, Chemical degrees are highly preferred from an ABET accredited college or university.
**Registration:** Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is preferred.
**Experience:** Requires 1+ years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design engineering.
**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
+ Experience designing, commissioning and maintenance of DCS based control systems in 24/7 manufacturing facility
+ Experience supporting/maintaining industrial automation network
+ Experience with firewalls, DMVPN remote implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
+ Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools.

Chart Industries is looking for a **Process Controls Engineer** for our office in **Orem, UT** . We are open to a hybrid schedule for this role. The Process Controls Engineer begins to take direct engineering responsibility for the conceptual design of Chart process technologies to meet customer requirements. This person must work well within a small team environment while preparing process information deliverables for the basic engineering design package.
**_What Will You Do?_**
+ Support process development for innovative Cryogenic Carbon Capture (TM) technology through Aspen Plus and in-house modeling
+ Develop and implement industrial-grade process control, including model predictive controls and human-machine interfaces, for highly integrated prototype and commercial processes
+ Simulate steady-state and transient/dynamic processes to describe performance and heat and material balances
+ Prepare process equipment data sheets and equipment lists
+ Prepare Process Flow Diagrams
+ Assist in the development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
+ Assist in the development of wiring and loop drawings and control system architectural drawings for internal research and development work
+ Provide process data to mechanical engineering department and key vendors for equipment sourcing
+ Check process engineering work performed by other Process and Process I Engineers
+ Assist in the preparation of Start-up and Operating Manuals
+ Participate in experimental work and prototype operation
+ Some travel around 10%
**_Your Physical Work Environment Will Require._**
The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. + 2 to 5 years of process engineering experience (or educational equivalent)
+ Computer programming expertise in one or several of C++, C#, Java/JavaScript, or Python
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Knowledge of chemical engineering "First Principles" especially thermodynamics and heat/mass transfer
+ Working knowledge of ASPEN Plus/HYSYS and/or similar process simulation software, including dynamics simulation
+ Knowledge of cryogenic process technologies which can include cryogenic air separation, natural gas liquefaction, hydrogen liquefaction, helium processing and liquefaction, etc.
+ Knowledgeable in natural gas processing technologies
+ Some experience and interest in control system and human machine interface software

The purpose of this classification is to perform technical work to install, maintain and calibrate all instrumentation, controls, programmable controllers, automated equipment and communication equipment for the Water Treatment Plant and its facilities.

The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Performs technical, skilled, and manual work associated with the installation, maintenance, and calibration of instrumentation, controls, programmable controllers, automated equipment, chemical metering pump systems and communication equipment for the water treatment facility and related facilities

Inspects, calibrates and tests equipment to identify cause of problems and ensures proper operations

Determines parts needed to make repairs, prepares purchase order requests for such parts, and maintains the inventory of those parts deemed vital to facility operations

Performs technical tasks to troubleshoot various systems including electrical wiring, mechanical and electrical equipment and related systems

Documents various work activities including equipment maintenance, calibration data, changes to existing systems and newly proposed designs

Maintains job-related files, records of drawings, maintenance records and other plant documentation

Utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections where applicable

Operates a variety of equipment, machinery and tools used in department projects/activities, which may include a utility truck, calibrator, handheld calculator, multimeter, mechanic’s tools, electrical testing instruments, two-way radios and/or general office equipment

Performs general / preventative maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, emptying trash containers or cleaning shop/work areas

Provides response to after hour calls or to emergency situations; participates in emergency operations for storm/hurricane preparation

Monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety for fellow employees and others

Coordinates the employment of outside vendors, engineers and technical consultants when necessary; participates in meetings

Works with associate maintenance staff members when necessary

Upon approval, attends industry based training, and stays up to date on the latest industrial automation trends

Ensures the availability and reliability of power and backup power systems including uninterruptable power supplies, generators, Motor Control Centers and other related equipment

Maintains Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and their related electronics; adheres to the facility lock out / tag out policy where applicable

Maintains the integrity of pumps including plumbing, chemical injection, associated electronics, and hot work; adheres to the facility hot work permit policy where applicable

Routinely calibrates facility and remote site instrumentation while operating necessary tools such as ultrasonic flow meters, oscilloscopes, vibration analyzers, and other related devices; maintains a log of such routine calibration  

Performs utility locates when needed

Performs electrical wiring for plant instrumentation, PLCs and other control systems

Prepares and updates schematics for wiring-related projects, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and alike systems 

Assists in SCADA networking functions when needed

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs general and clerical tasks, which may include, but not limited to, answering telephone calls, typing documents, making copies, sending and receiving faxes or filing documentation.

Prepares annual budget requests and notifies the appropriate supervisor of high cost items 

Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed

Performs duties in an industrial facility environment 

Performs other related duties as required


High School Diploma or GED required. 

College level course work or vocational training in the following required: water/wastewater operations, instrumentation and controls, programming, and electrical/mechanical equipment maintenance. 

Three (3) years previous experience/training required that includes instrumentation and controls, electrical/mechanical equipment maintenance, water treatment plant operations, and computer-aided design (CAD). 

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of employment.

Data Utilization :  Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data.  Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships.  

Human Interaction :  Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.
