**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Counsel management and technologists on patents, trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, and select IP transactions (e.g., NDA, JDA, SRA)
+ Analyze IP landscapes, assess risks, and develop IP sustainability strategies
+ Manage a global patent & trademark portfolio and oversee associated drafting, prosecution, and budget
+ Collaborate with litigation colleagues on IP procurement and enforcement strategies
+ Develop programs to protect IP and achieve business goals, including training management and engineering teams
+ Lead process and policy improvements to mitigate risks and enhance effectiveness
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Juris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law school
+ Bar Admissions: U.S. (CA or other state) and USPTO Registration Numbers
+ B.S. in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry or Materials Science
+ 7+ years of legal experience in law firm and/or in-house legal departments with a focus in the following areas:
+ Patent portfolio development and management in the US and foreign jurisdictions, particularly Asia
+ Drafting and negotiation of agreements involving IP provisions, including licensing, collaboration, research and similar agreements
+ Knowledge of IP law in Asian countries, including China, Korea and Taiwan
+ Experience related to IP enforcement and litigation, including claim construction, patent invalidity, and infringement analysis preferred
+ Familiar with global patent operations (e.g., patent administrations, billings, docketing practices, etc.) also preferred

Role Purpose:
The Counsel, Intellectual Property role will be responsible for intellectual property questions arising from the production of content or creation of brands within NBCUniversal businesses.
Responsibilities:
+ Counsel and collaborate with senior creative, business and legal executives and cross-functional teams on trademark, copyright, domain name and related IP matters, including innovative products and services, global brand launches, theme park attractions and television productions

This role will join the global intellectual property group within Bausch Healths legal team, located at our Bridgewater, NJ office. The candidate will support various aspects of the Bausch Health intellectual property group, with a primary focus on developing and cultivating key aspects of Bausch Healths patent portfolio and ensuring the protection of new innovations.
Responsibilities:
+ Oversee the preparation, filing, and prosecution of Bausch Health patent applications in various jurisdictions with a primary focus on Solta Medical (an affiliate of Bausch Health), which is a global leader in energy-based, aesthetic medical devices. Involves the marshalling of internal resources and directing domestic and international external counsel.
+ Support management of the patent prosecution and maintenance budget, including forecasting and optimizing costs associated with external counsel.
+ Collaborate with R&D, medical affairs, and other business stakeholders to identify and protect key innovations.
+ Collaborate with our business development teams to support IP diligence for new opportunities and alliances. Advise on freedom-to-operate, patentability, and enforcement.
+ Support Bausch Health IP litigation efforts in collaboration with external counsel.
+ Counsel business clients on IP related issues as they may arise.
Qualifications :
+ A JD degree is required. Must be licensed to practice in at least one state. Must be admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. An undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, or similar technical degree is required. An advanced degree (MS or PhD) is preferred.
+ Minimum 3 years practicing patent law (law firm experience preferred) in the medical device, chemical, and/or pharmaceutical field is required.
+ Demonstrated ability to think strategically about the preparation, development, and management of a patent portfolio in relation to a companys products/pipeline.
+ Demonstrated ability to correlate IP strategy to the achievement of a stated business objective.
+ Demonstrated ability to present complex legal or technical issues in a direct and simple manner.
+ Experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications, both domestic and international.
+ Experience providing IP support and diligence for M&A transactions and licensing.
+ Experience negotiating and drafting IP agreements.
+ Experience generating and reviewing opinions relating to patent infringement, validity, and enforceability.
+ Experience preparing and prosecuting trademark registration applications is preferred, though not required.
+ Experience working well with, and relating to, company personnel at all levels is required. Experience working with senior management/C-suite is preferred.
The range of starting base pay for this role is 213K - 292K. Actual starting pay will be based on a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, qualifications, education and location. The Role
Versant is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as Counsel, Intellectual Property in its centralized IP/Music legal team. This Los Angeles or New York-based opportunity. Key responsibilities include advising business executives on a myriad of legal issues arising from news, sports, and entertainment content, including copyright, trademark, rights of publicity, and defamation. This role will also build and lead Versant's programmatic enforcement efforts to protect its valuable IP assets. Finally, this role will be responsible for negotiating and drafting complex IP transactions, defending the company from IP pre-litigation claims, and conducting trademark clearance for high value brands and media assets. There may be opportunities to do music clearances and licensing as well.
The Responsibilities
+ Advise business executives on a myriad of legal issues arising from news, sports, and entertainment content, including copyright, trademark, rights of publicity, and defamation.
+ Conduct trademark searches for high value brands and entertainment properties.
+ Establish and operate programmatic enforcement strategy that protects valuable IP rights, and manage the vendors who execute it.
+ Defend the company from IP claims in a pre-litigation context.
+ Structure and negotiate complex IP agreements.
+ Create operational efficiency by using technology and automating workflows regarding domain names, rights management, and so much more.
Qualifications & Requirements
The ideal candidate is a skilled and pragmatic attorney with deep experience in IP enforcement, complex licensing, fair use determinations, defamation, evaluating emerging technology, and trademark clearance. The ideal candidate will bring both legal acumen and strategic thinking to help Versant navigate the evolving media landscape and unlock value across its content assets.
