JPMorgan Chase is seeking to hire an experienced tax professional to join our Corporate Tax Planning Group as an Executive Director. The Corporate Tax Planning Group is responsible for identifying tax issues and opportunities across the range of JPMorgan Chase's products, businesses, and regions. This role reports directly to a Managing Director who is the Co-Head of Tax Planning in Corporate Tax.
Job responsibilities:
+ Lead acquisitions, dispositions, joint venture opportunities and structured investments for JPMorgan Chase's own account from a tax perspective. This includes overseeing the entire deal life cycle of the transaction, from structuring through negotiation to post-closing integration.
+ Collaborate on Internal Legal Entity Restructurings: Design, implement and advise on internal restructuring transactions, both domestic and cross-border.
+ Collaborate with the team working on Investment Tax Credits: Partner with business units on investments that give rise to tax credits, such as low-income housing and green energy tax credits.
+ Lead working on Tax Opportunities and Issues: Provide guidance and advice to other business stakeholders (including real estate, auto finance & credit cards) on tax considerations, including related to current and potential tax legislation and regulations
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills:
+ Juris Doctorate (or non-U.S. equivalent)
+ Minimum of 5+ years of relevant tax experience at a top tier law firm with a strong tax practice (exceptional candidates with financial services industry experience at Big 4 accounting firms may also be considered)
+ Extensive technical expertise and experience with Subchapter C and Subchapter K, as applied to both domestic and cross-border transactions
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Tax and ESOP Compliance Administrator to join our Finance team. Responsibilities:
- Tax Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Collaborate with external tax advisors and auditors to manage filings, audits, and inquiries.
- Maintain accurate documentation for tax filings and compliance activities.
- Proactively identify and resolve tax-related issues, keeping leadership informed.
- ESOP Administration and Compliance
- Oversee compliance with ESOP-related regulations, including ERISA and IRC Section 409(p).
- Coordinate with third-party administrators (TPAs) to ensure accurate ESOP plan administration, including allocations, distributions, and vesting.
- Manage the preparation and submission of ESOP filings, such as Form 5500.
- Support the ESOP Administrative Committee with plan performance updates, serving as a knowledgebase for plan participants and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure accurate tracking of participant vesting and distribution schedules.
- Audit Support and Regulatory Liaison
- Act as the primary point of contact for IRS or Department of Labor audits related to tax or ESOP compliance.
- Work closely with auditors to ensure timely and accurate responses to inquiries.
- Document and maintain records of all fiduciary and compliance actions.
Qualifications:
- Experience
- 5-8 years of corporate tax compliance experience, ideally with exposure to both federal and state taxation.
- Prior experience interfacing with tax auditors or acting as a liaison for compliance activities.
- Familiarity with ESOP administration or benefit plans is a plus, with a strong willingness to learn and develop expertise in this area.
- Technical Skills
- Solid understanding of corporate tax compliance and related regulations, including payroll tax.
- Ability to quickly learn and apply ESOP-specific regulations, including Section 409(p) and repurchase obligations.

Job Description

Your day-to-day may include:
+ Running client engagements from start to finish, including planning, executing, directing, and completing tax projects and managing to budget
+ Supervising, training, and mentoring senior associates, associates and interns on tax projects and assessing performance of staff for engagement reviews; performing in-charge role as needed.
+ Identifying and capitalizing on opportunities to sell services to existing and potential clients
+ Reviewing tax returns prepared by staff and making recommendations on return preparation regarding accuracy and tax savings opportunities
+ Conducting primary review of ASC 740 income tax provision engagements
+ Researching and consulting on various tax matters; Utilizing Tax-related software to prepare and process returns.
+ Responding to inquiries from the IRS, State, and other tax authorities
+ Maintaining a good working relationship with clients and working effectively with client management and staff at all levels to gather information and perform tax services
+ Gaining an understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives, and utilizing that knowledge on engagements
+ Attending professional development and training sessions on a regular basis
+ Adhering to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality
+ Other duties as assigned
You have the following technical skills and qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting
+ Minimum four to seven years of progressive tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience
+ CPA or JD/active law license required
+ Experience in public accounting is preferred
+ Experience in corporate income tax and strong ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes skills
+ Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills with proficiency in US GAAP and corporate income tax laws and regulations
+ Strong working knowledge of broad-based statutory income tax compliance and consulting including state and local income taxes, taxation of international activity, and transfer pricing
+ Exceptional client service, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
+ Experience in OneSource Tax Provision preferred
+ Strong teamwork, analytical skills, and attention to detail
+ Can travel as needed
+ The base salary range for this position in the firms San Francisco and San Jose, CA offices only are between $128,800 and $93,200.
+ The base salary range for this position in the firms Los Angeles, Orange County/Newport Beach and San Diego offices only are between 121,000 and 181,400.
