About the Role Job Overview:As Cost Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for tracking the costs of Pacific Fusions demonstration system. This demonstration system will achieve net facility gain, and will have its own site, facilities, and infrastructure. You will work across all of the science and engineering organizations to ensure that the costs of their components and systems are tracked centrally.
Responsibilities:Execute a quarterly bottoms-up budget process for the demonstration system
Align quotes and estimates across all portions of the demonstration system, supporting infrastructure and facility into a cohesive budget
Analyze and track changes in cost over time
Translate basic cost information into a 3-statement financial model
Present the total costs and associated cash flows for the demonstration system to project teams and leadership
Integrate the demonstration system forecast into the overall company forecast in support of leadership reporting, fundraising and long-term strategic planning
Perform ad hoc analysis as requested to support various leadership initiatives
Experience owning the development and analysis of a detailed budget for a major hardware system that requires complex facilities and thousands of interdependencies
Ability to translate cost information from non-Finance professionals across a range of extremely technical disciplines
A history of supporting programs that deliver projects on budget
Experience compiling details into cohesive yet comprehensive executive summaries for consumption by various levels of leadership
Experience modeling the cost of first-of-a-kind systems
Experience working in a startup
Experience working in industries such as: fusion, energy, aerospace, chemicals
Experience working closely with PhD scientists and R&D technology organizations
Multi-disciplinary financial and/or engineering background including roles in accounting, engineering, financial planning & analysis, financial operations or construction management

The Cost Engineer will support the construction project planning and execution by managing cost estimation, budgeting, and financial tracking. The ideal candidate will work closely with project managers, estimators, and financial teams to ensure projects are delivered withing budget and aligned with financial goals.
Responsibilities

- Evaluate contractor and vendor proposals for cost accuracy and compliance.
- Support change order management by assessing cost impacts and updating budgets accordingly.
- Provide cost data and analysis for project risk assessments and value engineering efforts.
- Maintain cost databases and historical records for benchmarking and future planning.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies and industry standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, finance, or related field.
- 3 + years of experience in cost engineering, estimating, or project controls in the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and labor cost.
- Proficiency in cost management software (e.g., Primavera, Sage, Procore, or similar)
- Advance Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting tools.
- Excellent analytical, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast pace, deadline- driven environment.
- Requires coordination with multiple departments and stakeholders.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities
TheEstimatorwill be a member of the Mechanical Systems Division Business Win Group.
This person will work closely with the Sanmina North American Sales team along with Sanmina plants throughout the world in coordinating the generation of quotations and customer service support for sheet metal high level assemblies.
TheEstimatorwill provide a commitment to the requester of target completion and distribute packages to Purchasing Coordinators as necessary while creating sheet metal labor hour estimates.
This person will also be responsible for classifying BOM Make/Buy and work in creating dimension drawing packages for quotation as required from 3-D models.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor Degree in Engineering preferred or equivalent experience.
Experience coding complex assemblies with large BOM
Experience in fabrication contract manufacturing
Experience in IT racks, cooling solutions and data center technologies
2-4 years experience in machine shopestimation.
Experience qualifying drawing packages submitted forestimation.
Knowledge with prints of drawings and organization of quotation packages.
Prior experience reviewing all cost estimated packages for completeness & accuracy
Overall mechanical estimating experience is a plus.
Experience with Excel created Bills of Materials and spreadsheets.
Able to work within deadlines and without direct supervision.
