**Design Director, Denim**

As a Design Director of Fashion, you will be responsible for creating designs exclusively for Private Brands and develop trend strategies that support the Walmart Apparel Strategic Business Unit (SBU) merchandising goals. You will assure that Walmart's private brand DNA/guidelines, trends, aesthetic/style, quality and value all support the customers' needs and lead the market. You will be responsible for setting the brands seasonal fashion direction and align with broader Walmart strategies. You'll help ensure merchant leadership is aligned with the creative direction and assortment.

+ You enjoy building and developing private brand design strategy and execution, supporting long term business plans and executing prioritized strategic programs.

+ You are omni channel customer-focused: You make must be able to develop and execute a strategic vision, with a customer-centric approach while understanding customer behavior across channels, or within relevant channels.

**You'll make an impact by:**
+ **Brand Execution:** Oversee all aspects of the brand including brand management, design, merchandising analytics, and storytelling. Lead the design vision, execution and identify of each brand, ensuring the merchant strategy and brand guidelines are followed to ensure a consistent design aesthetic on the floor and online. Be the key decision maker on brands aesthetic, design, silhouettes, and fabrics/materials. Responsible for translating the vision into a product by utilizing appropriate materials and a supply base to execute the collection. Strong collaboration and partnership with the Product Development and Sourcing team on supplier matrix, direct imports, competitive pricing, and supplier ; factory relationships. Partner with marketing and brand services teams to ensure all cohesive brand vision is executed through all packaging, promotional materials.
+ **Merchandising Differentiation and Competitive Advantage:** Understanding the competitive landscape of the brand portfolio, determining competitive advantages, and developing a winning strategy. Developing and adapting to the ever-changing Omni retail environment. Continually offering new experiences to customers to increase Walmarts market and customer wallet share, as well as customer retention.
+ **Partnership with Leaders:** Partnering with other Senior Leaders to ensure Brand collections and strategy is in alignment with other business unit strategies (e.g., Operations; Replenishment, Marketing). Collaborating with omni Merchandising Operations teams to efficiently and effectively achieve Omni SBU Merchandising objectives.
+ **Transformative Talent Development:** In partnership with People Partner, developing a transformative talent strategy for Teams which clearly identifies the skills, experiences and competencies needed to transform the Design Team and establish the function as an industry leader for the future. Enables associate development and career growth while maintaining a High-Performance Culture.
+ **Brand Customer Experience and Shopping Habits:** Delivering world-class Walmart exclusive brand experiences across all channels (e.g., Walmart stores, ) by offering private label collections of high-quality, high-value products. Providing a positive customer experience that results in increased sales, customer conversion, and customer satisfaction.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field
+ 10+ years of experience in apparel design, with deep expertise in denim
+ Proven leadership experience managing design teams
+ Strong eye for trend, proportion, fabric, and wash development
+ Excellent communication, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
+ Experience working with global sourcing and vendor networks
+ Ability to balance creativity with business objectives in a high-volume retail environment
**Portfolio Required. This role is onsite in our New York office (45 W 25th St, New York, NY).**

**The School of Drama within the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University invites applicants for a one-year Visiting Special Faculty in the Costume Design Program, AY 2023-24.**
We are the first drama degree-granting institution, having been established in 1914, and have along, rich history of nurturing inventive artists at the forefront of the industry. The Costume Program at CMU is listed among the top ten in the world, and our alumni hold leading positions in performance design across the US and internationally.
The Costume Design Program prepares students for careers in theater, television and film, opera, dance, and emerging forms of entertainment. Under the mentorship of world-class faculty, emphasis is placed on developing the imaginations and visual skills of the individual artist as the foundations for collaborative creation. We combine established practice and innovative pedagogical and technological advancement across all subject areas with an intensive student-centered school production season. Artistic invention, design and visual art courses interwoven with making and craft courses, diverse art practices, interdisciplinary collaboration, new forms of creative expression and the promotion of community and diversity are among the hallmarks of our training.
**Position Description:**
The successful candidate would serve as an integral part of a five-person costume design and production team that work closely together within a dynamic, drama conservatory community. Courses taught during the academic year would be in dialogue with the current faculty but could include-First Semester: History of Clothing (from a global, multicultural, and broad socio-political viewpoint), Design for the Stage; Second Semester: History of Clothing, Basic Design-Semiotics, Introduction to Costume Design, Concept Character Illustration. These classes would be taught to both graduate and undergraduate students. Because of the immediacy of this vacancy, recent syllabi and support materials can be provided.

● The hired candidate would be expected to advise student designers on
