DEFINITION
The School Guidance Counselor shall be that employee member of the school staff designated by
the Superintendent of Schools to have the general responsibility for counseling grade 9-12. The
District is currently accepting applications for someone to cover a maternity leave.
PREREQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum: Master's degree in Guidance from an accredited institution
- Minimum: Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education certification for the position of Guidance Counselor 5-12.
- Provide direct academic, social, and personal supportive services to students individually, in classrooms, and in large groups.
- Assist students set academic and personal goals.

Overview:
DAY 6 is an evening program to re-engage students who have dropped out of Everett High School. The mission of our Day 6 is to identify those who have dropped out from Everett High School and re-engage them. It is our understanding that many students want to finish high school but are often met with further barriers that exclude them from opportunities for them to be successful. The goal is to expand our re-engagement efforts by transforming EHS into a Saturday/Night Center for students who have dropped out or are at risk of dropping out. We are looking for a guidance counselor to support re-engaged students and staff.
Our program provides comprehensive support including:
- GED/HISET Support
- MCAS tutoring support
- Job readiness and placement opportunities
- Life skills and career exploration
- Work directly with the Re-Engagement Specialist with EPS to create a database of students who are eligible for Day 6.
- Create needs assessments and graduation audits.
- Identify paths for students to graduate with a post secondary plan or workforce plan.
- Coordinate tutors and their roles in the Day 6 program.
- Build partnerships with outside organizations to support students who transition in and out of the program.
- Develop success plans for each student.
- Work with the Guidance Department Chair and Re-engagement Specialist to ensure that the scope of the program is aligned with district policies and mission.
- Facilitate student outreach.

JOB GOAL: Profile of a Natick Educator
The Guidance Counselor will assist and encourage students to engage in opportunities that best prepare them for the workplace by providing support in developing personalized career plans and connecting students and families to available resources that best meet their needs. - Collaborate with the ELL Department to address the learning and emotional needs of students in the ELL program. Advocate for these students with guidance, administration, and educators. When possible, provide native language support and outreach for students and their families, as appropriate.
- Serve as a liaison with Psychiatric Emergency Services, District juvenile court, and all outside treatment facilities, as appropriate.
- Serve as in-building liaison/coordinator for McKinney-Vento students.
- Convene re-entry meetings for students returning to school from a treatment facility to ease the transition back to an academic setting.

Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a global leader in the protection of unaccompanied and separated children who are forcibly displaced from their countries of origin. Launched in 2008, KIND champions a world in which every child's rights and well-being are protected throughout their journey to safety.
Building on its extensive programming and successful model in the United States, KIND is expanding in the Americas and Europe to bring its experience to bear in working with unaccompanied and separated children. Our work focuses on addressing the legal and mental health needs of this population; building strong partnerships and engaging in training and capacity strengthening with governments, NGOs, and the private sector; and advocating for systemic and pragmatic reforms to advance the rights of unaccompanied and separated children.
Position Summary:
KIND seeks a Social Services Coordinator to work with KIND's child clients and their families to identify needs and gaps in services, assist families in accessing services related to education, health, mental health, housing, mediation, and childcare and provide leadership in establishing and sustaining relationships with local and state social services partners.
This position is contingent upon continued funding.
Essential Functions
- Develops and maintains a knowledge base of social services available to clients in assigned work areas.
- Develops relationships with community coalitions in areas of high client concentration.
- Establishes working relationships and partnerships with local service providers and administrators in each service area to enhance the referral process.
- Conducts assessments of referred clients, including the larger context in which the child is living, identifying needs, barriers, and safety concerns.
- Maintains documentation regarding attempts to access services and service delivery.
- Tracks and reports client data, outreach actions and outcomes, and general information for program evaluation, performance quality, and development purposes.
- Completes referrals to services, assists families in completing intake requirements for these services, and follow up as necessary.
- Assists KIND legal staff in working with families in crisis and transition.
- Works with other KIND Social Services Coordinators nationally to develop best practices, protocols, and provide training and support on relevant topics for KIND staff.
- Conducts training to support pro bono attorneys and community social providers.
- Works closely with other legal services providers, law firms, corporations, and law schools in relevant jurisdiction(s) to identify and support resource-sharing amongst these partner agencies.
- Supervises interns and volunteers.

- Undergraduate degree in Social Work or related field, preferably in counseling, or related specialty.
