What will your job look like?

The Manager, Safety and Training is responsible for implementing safety and training programs as defined by the Leadership of Safety Administration and will ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations, as well as corporate, client guidelines and policies.

What you'll do:

  • Manage a consistent safety culture that incorporates various departments, such as operations, safety and maintenance
  • Oversee Corporate Safety Incentives and programs effectively and consistently, including assignment of Safety Points
  • Implement and support the company and client's safety management system (SMS) safety plan and initiatives Manage and monitor the FTA's drug and alcohol DAMIS reporting requirements
  • Monitor and support all location insurance claims activities to ensure effective communication with claimants, to help control claims costs and support claims closure
  • Lead and support the local safety committee and SMS Ambassador group
  • Oversees the locations worker compensation program to ensure compliance and effectively reduce/eliminate claims
  • Deliver proper classroom, behind the wheel and mobility management training in accordance with contractual and company requirements
  • Promote employee self-responsibility to achieve all safety goals and training requirements
  • Ensures all new hires meet minimum qualifications for each division including, background and DMV checks
  • Ensure all safety manuals, programs and policies and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions; updating as appropriate
  • Successfully complete all related audits including those conducted by the Company, the Client, internal staff members, and state and federal regulatory agencies
  • Review, determine and respond to all vehicular, passenger and employee accidents/incidents, indicating the cause and preventability, identifying potential trends to be addressed in future training efforts
  • Provide functional expertise in safety regarding hiring of safety department employees
  • Collaborate with local Leadership to deliver comprehensive safety meetings and plans
  • Act as the location drug program manager, ensuring compliance of FTA/DOT regulations

What you'll need:

Experience, Education & Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of transit/paratransit safety management experience
  • Previous management experience in a union environment
  • Thorough knowledge of all applicable safety rules, regulations ADA, FTA and DOT to include all corporate programs
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and DOT physical and maintain physical throughout employment

**Position Summary:**
The purpose of the Safety and Training Manager is to support Safety initiatives and occupational safety and food safety/quality assurance, as well as DOT compliance. The Safety/Training Manager will follow best management practices to align with company strategies and core values. **Responsibilities:**
+ Maintain organized and up-to-date Occupational Safety and Food Safety/QA programs and documents to successfully represent standard operating procedures and practices.
+ Maintain and promote procedures to facilitate OpCo compliance with company standards (including Marieux third party standards) and local, state and federal rules and regulations.
+ Site point of contact for inspections/audits conducted by regulatory agencies such as OSHA/DOT/EPA/USDA.
+ Chair the OpCo Safety Committee and monitor activities conducted by the committee. Record and communicate meeting minutes and follow up on discussed action items.
+ Administer and monitor Occupational Safety, Food Safety/QA, and DOT training and related tracking, recordkeeping and internal communication, utilizing the Learning Management System and third-party training services/schools.
+ Support the Transportation department in safety and compliance duties related to DQ Files, Hours of Service, Drug Testing, MVR Checks, and more.
+ File Auto Liability and Worker's Compensation claims, maintain AL/WC files, interface with AL/WC carrier, including the attendance of Quarterly Claim Review meetings with TPA.
+ Support Corporate direction pertaining to Environmental regulatory requirements and initiatives.
+ Lead incident investigations by conducting root-cause analyses to determine areas of opportunity to prevent future incidents.
+ Maintain and review OSHA 300 Log, 300A Summary, and 301 Forms adhering to required posting schedule.
+ Utilize internal systems to monitor and communicate loss trends in an effort to decrease and ultimately mitigate further loss, including preparation for property assessments and tracking of risk recommendations.
+ Maintain site security policies and procedures, to include the monitoring of the OpCo's access control system, camera system, and Key Control Program.
+ Collaborate with Corporate Security, HR, and Legal in the event of internal and external theft, to include assisting local management in the communication of incident details with local law enforcement as needed.

+ Lead, design, develop and implement initial and recurrent training programs for transportation personnel.
+ Supervise driver trainers, by establishing objectives, standards, work schedules and accountability for job performance.
+ Proactively recruit individuals to apply and train them to become School Bus Drivers
+ Provide classroom instruction and behind the wheel training of applicants and bus drivers to ensure successful completion of training and testing; recommend upgrades as necessary
+ Provide on-going training and performance evaluations for all Driver employees
+ Administer and maintain Company random drug/alcohol testing and pre-employment drug/alcohol testing program in conjunction with corporate office.
+ Develop and conduct regularly scheduled Driver Safety Meetings.
+ Assume primary responsibility in responding to personal injury and vehicle accidents by on-scene investigation and preparing and submitting reports to the corporate office in accordance with Company policy.
+ Investigate customer service complaints relative to safety issues and take appropriate corrective action.
+ Administer and maintain Company Safe Driver Award Program.
+ Exhibits the highest ethical best practices and personal integrity; Shares concerns about suspicious or inappropriate behavior with their supervisor or manager.

**Qualifications**
+ High School diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred.
+ 3 years as a Trainer in school bus transportation industry desired
+ Supervisory experience preferred; specifically experience supervising/training a driver workforce
+ Must complete state certification program or Durham's Training Academy for school bus driver instructor. Equivalent work experience as a Trainer can be substituted as appropriate.
+ License or Certification: SBDI certification required; Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements required;
+ Strong working knowledge of MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and transportation related software
+ Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills
+ Strong organizational and group presentation skills
+ Well-developed multi-tasking and time management skills
+ Ability to provide direction, coaching and mentoring to employees while creating an environment that encourages and values input and feedback
+ Ability to respond to unanticipated events to ensure excellence in customer service.
+ Ability to Investigate claims and incidents of questionable conduct, accidents etc.
+ Computer literacy skills in word processing and spreadsheets
