The Viner ICU is a 30-bed intensive care unit. The ICU specializes in the care of adult, acutely ill patients in an academic setting. The ICU offers state of the art care with innovative technology and lifesaving interventions. The highly specialized multidisciplinary team is committed to providing expert care to the sickest of the sick in the region. Driven by quality and patient centered care the team delivers advanced critical care for patients needing; ECMO, cardiac surgery, interventional pulmonary care, and other lifesaving treatments. Over the last few years, the ICU received, "The Family Centered Care Innovation Award" and the "2022 ICU Hero's Award" from the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).

Short Description

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients' activities of daily living and plan of care. Communicates with and supports healthcare team, patients and/or patient's family or significant other(s). Maintains and demonstrates high standards of professional ethics.

What You'll Do:

Utilize your healthcare expertise as you provide LOVE + MEDICINE for a broad range of critical patients in our 20-bed Intensive Care Unit. Our Level II Trauma Intensive Care/Critical Care Unit is a fast-paced, 20-bed unit that provides patient- and family-centered care for a variety of high-acuity patients including post-cardiothoracic surgery, neurovascular interventions, ventilated patients, traumas, continuous renal replacement therapy, post-cardiac arrest care, and more. As a Critical Care Technician you are responsible for providing and assisting with the care of critically ill, high acuity patients, including patient transports and transfers, patient room setup, centralized telemetry monitoring, collection of lab specimens for diagnostic testing, a variety of technical procedures with physician direction including assisting providers during central line insertion, and other assigned duties under the direction of an RN, MD, PA or NP in Critical Care.

  • Fulltime - 72 hours biweekly (0.9 FTE)
  • 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (6:30am - 6:30pm, 6:30pm - 6:30am), every 3rd weekend and holiday

San Mateo County Health's, San Mateo Medical Center has opportunities for experienced Critical Care nurses in our Intensive Care Unit. Under direction, the incumbents will perform varied professional nursing duties with a primary emphasis on professional nursing care for hospital or clinic patients; treat and educate patients, their families, and the public about various medical conditions; record medical histories and symptoms; perform diagnostic tests and analyze results; operate medical machinery; administer treatment and medications; assist with patient follow-up and rehabilitation; and perform other duties as assigned and required by assigned clinical setting.
Currently, we have one Regular part-time 0.8 FTE critical care nurse vacancy in the ICU.

The ideal candidates will possess the following:
  • Competence to independently perform a full range of professional nursing duties and procedures that require the exercise of a high degree of clinical judgment.
  • Two years of experience working in acute care hospital units providing care to patients with serious, complex and acute illnesses or injuries that require very close monitoring and extensive medication protocols and therapies. Intensive Care setting preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse, underserved populations.
  • Knowledge of current regulatory requirements.

NOTE: The eligible list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future extra-help, term, unclassified, and regular classified vacancies.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:
