The Director of ICU is a Registered Nurse who assumes 24 hour administrative responsibility for the management of all critical care nursing service functions. Develops and implements departmental plans, including performance improvement activities and compliance with current regulations. Assumes 24 hour accountability for the departments. Supervises and evaluates all personnel assigned to the unit and effectively utilizes nursing personnel, time responsibilities for the unit and is directly accountable to the Assistant Administrator of Patient Care Services or Administrator. Consults and communicates with staff, physicians, and administration both written and verbally on nursing issues and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. Assumes house supervisory responsibilities as assigned, including responding to codes throughout the hospital, assessing and charting, and following through with appropriate documentation. ICU oversees the provision of patient care for adolescent, adult and older adult patients.
QualificationsEducation and Work Experience:
- Current and valid state license as a Registered Nurse.
- Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
- Current ACLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
- Current Critical Care RN (CCRN) certificate(s) upon hire, preferred.
- A minimum of two years supervisory/management experience necessary.
- Minimum of three years of continuous clinical experience in a clinical/acute care setting preferred.
- Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) required for all new hires after 1/11/2021.
- FACILITY SPECIFIC: Current PALS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.

**Operations and Administration**
1. Supports the implementation of the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the department, throughout the clinical service and individual patient care units.
2. Provides administrative oversight to a service line, department or group of units to ensure that all activity (staffing, support services, inter disciplinary collaboration, resources and financial viability) supports the goals of the organization.
3. Works collaboratively with Associate Director/ Clinical Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager, physician dyads and all members of the healthcare team to develop a cohesive unit leadership group.
4. Maintains service line compliance with all regulatory agency mandates, including the regulations of NYS DOH and The Joint Commission.
5. Oversees Associate Directors/Clinical Nurse Managers/Assistant Nurse Managers to ensure 24 hour patient care delivery, throughput, staffing and processes to insure efficient and effective operations.
6. Oversees the development and implementation of several unit or service line budgets, including capital equipment allocation, budget variances, management of OT and vacancies according to MSHS financial goals.
7. Oversees control of positions and the recruitment and retention of qualified staff.
8. Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
9. Monitors availability and maintenance of nursing equipment and supplies.
10. Evaluates Associate Director/Clinical Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager performance. Mentors, coaches, counsels and disciplines staff as needed.
11. Conducts leadership staff meetings with Associate Directors to ensure communication about progress, changes and compliance with all hospital ensure and procedures and regulatory agency standards.

**Compensation Statement**
Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $166400 - $239200 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Overview:
Assists in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the operations and patient care of designated areas. Serves as a clinical resource for staff and patients in the department. Functions as a staff nurse in the department as needed. Assumes managerial duties delegated by a manager. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate from an accredited Nursing program. Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Licensure: Must have either a current RN Temporary Permit/RN license in the state of practice
- Experience: 3-5 years of direct Critical Care bedside nursing experience Supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
- Certifications:
- BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS
