Monday - Thursday 12p -10pThis is a 40 hour/week position.
Job Description:
1. Performs CT scans of head, chest, abdomen, extremities, or any CT scan procedure ordered by the radiologist.
a. Competent in the use of CT scan computers, consoles, laser cameras, Medrad Injector, and Dinamap blood pressure monitor.
b. Follows department protocols when performing CT scans or duties related to CT scanning.
c. Accurately follows directives given by the supervising radiologist.
d. Administers oral and intravenous contrast material.
e. Starts and monitors intravenous lines.
f. Develops and critiques film.
g. Logs reactions to contrast in reaction book and computer.
h. Follows procedures for equipment start up, calibration, and shutdown.
2. Takes call according to schedules and respond in a timely manner to a request to scan.
a. CT scan technologists are expected to be at hospital within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency request.
3. Interacts professionally and courteously with patients, co-workers, and medical staff. Assists in training of student radiographers.
4. Utilizes time productively and appropriately with respect to patient flow, room use, stocking of supplies, and clerical duties to increase department efficiency.
a. Patient wait time is kept to a minimum.
b. More than 90% of time worked is spent on productive tasks without supervisory prompting.
5. Actively follows Universal Precaution guidelines with each patient.
a. Attends yearly "Blood-borne pathogens/OSHA" inservice.
b. Practices aseptic technique when necessary.
6. Produces an accurate computer and written record of each exam.
a. Completes Meditech entries 98% of the time.
b. Completes requisitions/film/film jacket correlation accurately 98% of the time.
7. Pursues continuing education by attending department and hospital-wide programs, regional seminars, and/or college courses.
a. Meets ARRT standards. b. Meets MA State licensing standards.
8. Performs various other similar or related duties as required and/or directed by supervisors.
a. Willingly performs any task for which the employee is competent.
1. Two years of formal radiologic technology training. 2. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. 3. License in Radiography by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 4. Good interpersonal skills.

- 12. Follows All Procedures On Safe Patient Interactions And Body Mechanics.

EDUCATION
Must be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D. Graduation from an ARRT approved program in radiologic technology.
EXPERIENCE
One (1) To Two (2) Years Experience In Ct Department Preferred. Previous Radiographic Experience Required.
LICENSURE
Must hold a current Connecticut State license in Radiographer. BLS Required.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Must be ARRT (R) and (CT) Registered with the exception of applicants in the cross-training program who would have 10 months after the completion of the cross-training program to obtain their advanced CT Registry.

Under the supervision of the Diagnostic Radiology Manager and/or Assistant Chief Technologist, performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing complex imaging equipment to produce quality CT images as requested for subsequent interpretation by the radiologist. All duties are performed according to departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Promotes service excellence in all interactions as outlined in the Key Behaviors in the YNHH Core Success Factors. To meet the staffing needs of the department, as necessary, CT staff may be assigned at any of the YNHH CT locations, regardless of your regularly assigned work location.

Responsibilities
- 1. High Reliability Organization (HRO) and work practices as documented with no scanning errors.
- 1.1 Uses technical skill and knowledge of cross-section anatomy to perform CT exams using appropriate imaging protocols, independently and efficiently. .
- 2. Actively participates in workflow activities in order to ensure the goals of the department are met and runs efficiently.
- 2.1 Assists CSA, schedulers, PFAS staff, physicians, secretaries, nursing, etc with scheduling, obtaining requisitions or pre-authorization, patient preparation instructions, and other exam-related communications.
- 3. Performs quality and compassionate patient care in order to ensure patient cooperation, safety and satisfaction.
- 3.1 Thoroughly explains the procedure and ensures patient physical and emotional comfort as observed by supervisor/manager or noted by patient comments or surveys.
- 4. Performs various record keeping, communication and customer service functions in order to ensure goals of the department are met and operations run efficiently.
- 4.1 Relays pertinent information to radiologists or other technical staff to minimize errors due to lack of communication, especially during change of shift, as noted by supervisor.
- 5. Operates CT scanners using age and dose appropriate protocols and related medical equipment necessary to produce quality CT images for diagnosis or treatment safely and efficiently.
- 5.1 Performs tube warm up and calibrations daily and when prompted as described in the department quality assurance program and documented by the CT scanner event log.
- 6. Participates in various teaching, learning, and research opportunities in order to further professional knowledge and expertise or to assist in expanding the knowledge of others.
- 6.1 Is receptive to teaching CT technologists, student technologists, radiology residents and fellows, as observed by supervisor or input from staff or students.
EDUCATION
Graduation from an A.M.A. approved Radiologic Technology program. AS degree Preferred, BS degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
One (1) to three (3) years of CT, experience with routine imaging techniques. Demonstrated technical skills to meet entry level standards of routine CT imaging.
LICENSURE
RT(R) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), required. CT certification required or 20 years of CT experience. Connecticut State License required. CPR Certification preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Proficient in advanced CT imaging techniques, above average knowledge of cross section anatomy, computer/Pacs applications, and good organizational and communication / customer service skills.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds to assist with patient transfers.
