POSITION SUMMARY

Opportunity: Full time

Department: Operations

Title: Community Engagement Associate

FLSA Status: Non - E xempt

Reports to: Senior Manager of Community Engagement

Location: Newton , MA

ABOUT CRADLES TO CRAYONS:

Cradles to Crayons (C2C), founded in 2002, provides children, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive-at home, at school, and at play. We supply clothing, shoes, diapers, school supplies, and more, free of charge. Our vision is that one day all children will have the essentials they need to thrive.

Two in 5 kids in the United States are currently facing Clothing Insecurity, going without basic essentials like pants, shoes, diapers, and school supplies during their critical development years. Three of the top 10 reasons kids miss school are rooted in Clothing Insecurity-just one example of the significant short- and long-term social and economic costs when these needs go unmet. Cradles to Crayons keeps Clothing Insecurity at the core of our mission and is the only large-scale nonprofit organization to focus on this resource gap. Since its founding, Cradles to Crayons has distributed more than three million customized packages of essentials to children in Massachusetts, Greater Philadelphia, Chicagoland, NYC, and nationally, through Giving Factory Direct-a first-in-kind online product donation platform launched in 2021.

Cradles to Crayons takes a three-pronged approach to mitigating Clothing Insecurity:
  1. In-person Engagement- through tens of thousands of children and adults volunteering at our Giving Factory warehouses to sort and package high volumes of new and like-new donations from our communities for our Service Partners to distribute to the children they serve.
  2. Online Product Donations -Giving Factory Direct matches product donors directly to children who need the items they have to donate. GFD is currently available in a growing number of communities as we expand our reach nationally.
  3. Advocacy and Awareness -Cradles to Crayons is uniquely positioned to raise Clothing Insecurity as a national issue through awareness campaigns, data/evaluation, and legislative outreach.

Cradles to Crayons' strong financial health and ongoing effectiveness and reliability have helped it earn a Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator every year since 2009. C2C has a budget of 20M for FY26 and a total staff of approximately 100.

Job Description

Volunteer Position: Community Engagement Volunteer ("Friend Raiser")

Location: Hybrid - Orange County preferred (with opportunities for in-person engagement)

Commitment: 5-10 hours/month, flexible

Reports to: Director of Advancement

About Stand Up for Kids - Orange County:

Stand Up for Kids is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of youth homelessness. The Orange County chapter has been serving vulnerable and at-risk youth ages 12-24 for over 20 years, providing mentorship, basic needs, education support, and access to housing resources. We empower young people to build brighter futures and ultimately break the cycle of youth homelessness.

The Opportunity:

Do you thrive on connecting people, hosting gatherings, and opening doors for causes you believe in? StandUp for Kids - Orange County is seeking a Community Engagement Volunteer, or "Friend Raiser," who moves easily in social and professional circles and wants to make a lasting impact on the lives of homeless and at-risk youth.

This role is perfect for a well-connected individual who is active in Orange County’s philanthropic, social, or business communities and wants to leverage their network for good. Whether you enjoy making introductions, hosting casual mixers, or simply championing a mission you care about, we’d love to work with you.

Key Responsibilities:

Connector & Door Opener

  • Proactively introduce StandUp for Kids to individuals, business leaders, community groups, and social circles with a heart for giving back.

  • Open doors by making warm introductions, scheduling meetings, or encouraging event attendance.

  • Serve as an ambassador at community events, mixers, or social functions - helping to raise the organization’s visibility among new supporters.

Prospect Identification

  • Help identify and research potential donors, sponsors, and partners - especially those who align with our mission and values.

  • Share insights on who’s who in Orange County’s philanthropic landscape and suggest thoughtful ways to engage them.

Engagement & Influence

  • Host or co-host small gatherings, informational lunches, or "friendraising" events to introduce new people to the cause.

  • Provide guidance on outreach strategies that feel authentic, personal, and relationship-driven.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Active in Orange County’s social, philanthropic, or business circles.

  • A natural networker and people person-someone who enjoys making introductions and building goodwill.

  • Passionate about youth advocacy, equity, and making a meaningful difference.

  • Comfortable representing a cause in both casual and formal settings.

  • Prior experience with fundraising, nonprofit boards, or community engagement is a plus but not required.

  • You must complete a half day training and pass a background check ($18 fee)

What You'll Gain:

  • A fulfilling way to use your influence and relationships to help young people off the streets and into stable, successful lives.

  • Recognition as a leader and ambassador in our organization.

  • Opportunities to attend VIP donor events, receive public acknowledgment, and connect with other like-minded changemakers.

  • A chance to be part of a movement that’s changing lives in your community.
