We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as a Composite Material Cutting Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for performing material cutting operations to support production. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated experience in pre-preg cutting, ply orientation and material handling, but not required. Additionally, proficiency in inventory tracking, understanding of cutting/nesting software, and strong organization are necessary for this role.

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $22-$30/hour. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

SUMMARY: The Assistant Cutting Operator assists the lead in set up, adjustment and safe operation of all cutting equipment to prepare product to be packed, collated, or bound, ensuring the meeting of customer specifications, in accordance with company policies and procedures. The Assistant Cutter is also responsible for ensuring a safe and constant flow of accurately jogged and measured paper sheets from jogging stations to the cutting section.
Schedule: 2nd shift, Monday - Friday, eight or more hours per day, five days per week based on business needs. Primary schedule will be 8:00 PM – 4:30 AM, or similar. Training may occur at other times.
Salary Range: $20.00 To 21.00 Hourly

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Weigh and jog paper in preparation for cutting.
- Maintain a steady flow of product to the cutting section.
- Coordinate with cutter operators using clear communication and sound judgment.
- Organize incoming batches to ensure efficient workflow.
- Maintain and update the cutting log.
- Replace and remove waste and recycling receptacles in cutting areas.
- Support coworkers as needed.
- Report all work-related injuries, illnesses, near misses, or hazards to management immediately.
- Ensure equipment, tools, and workstations are in good working order and free of safety hazards
- Complete and maintain required documentation and records.
- Wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
- Perform regular housekeeping duties in assigned work areas.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Attend all required department and company meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

* Identifies, documents, and drives departmental metrics for Productivity, Safety, Quality, Waste, and any other metrics required by the company.
* Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, continually participating in company LEAN manufacturing training and audits.
* Identifies with and supports company leadership and company decisions.
* Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
* Ensure staffing is appropriate to meet workload requirements and productivity standards.
* Establish and maintain a preventive maintenance plan for department equipment and this is done on a consistent basis.
* Investigates malfunction of machines and equipment; determines the need for repair and maintenance. Determines if repairs can be done internally or externally to get the equipment fixed right as fast as we can.
* Ensure employees are following all safety regulations including PPE, SFQ, and OSHA requirements.
* Keep abreast of new products and developments within the department and ensure that the equipment can do the job and that the proper training is performed.
* Conducts on-time performance reviews of supervisors and employees. Ensures direct reports have professional development plans and that those plans are executed in the timeframes specified.
* Leads effective shift meetings on every shift, each week.
* Actively engaging and participating in company Operational Excellence training, projects and audits.
What You Need to Succeed:
* 7+ years of leadership experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment; folding carton experience is a must.
* Ability to be an on-shift resource for troubleshooting problems in the converting process as well as maintenance issues
* Strong leadership, strategic planning and analytical skills
* Strong focus on Safety and Quality
* Focus on Continuous Improvement; Six Sigma and / or Lean Principles highly desired
* Must have the ability to champion and lead change within the department and facility wide
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, ability to learn new software applications

The Opportunity:
The Cutting Assistant is responsible for locking up tooling used in Die Cutting Operation. Will be required to assist on cutter make readies/runs along with relieving cutter operators for breaks and/or vacations. Assist with jogging board, operating baler, working TRA and other duties assigned. Will be required to advance to a cutter operator position when one becomes available that they are qualified for.

The C utting Operator will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining various cutting machines; including the Polar Cutter, Die Cutter, Rollem Slipstream, Saturn machine, and partial list of machines– to produce high-quality printed materials that meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.

- Set up and operate the following machines: Polar Cutter – for precision cutting of paper stacks, Die Cutter – for custom shape and form cutting. Rollem Slipstream – for slitting, scoring, perforating, and numbering, Saturn Machine – for automated cutting and finishing operations.
- Read and interpret job tickets, production schedules, and customer specifications
- Perform quality checks to ensure accuracy in cuts, alignment, and finished size
- Monitor equipment during operation to detect and troubleshoot malfunctions
- Make mechanical adjustments as needed to maintain consistent quality
- Safely handle materials and finished products during all stages of operation
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
