Job Summary:
The Graduate Data Analyst Trainee program is designed to provide recent graduates with hands-on experience in data analysis, visualization, and interpretation within a commercial setting. Under the guidance of experienced data scientists and analysts, you will be involved in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights. This role is perfect for analytical thinkers who are eager to apply their academic knowledge to real-world business challenges and develop a strong foundation in data analytics. You will contribute to various projects aimed at optimizing business processes and improving decision-making for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the collection, extraction, and cleaning of complex datasets from various sources.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, anomalies, and relationships within the data.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using data visualization tools to present insights clearly.
  • Support senior analysts in building statistical models and predictive analytics.
  • Translate business requirements into analytical tasks and data solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and deliver relevant insights.
  • Document data sources, methodologies, and analysis findings.
  • Participate in data quality initiatives to ensure accuracy and integrity of data.
  • Learn and apply various data analysis techniques, tools, and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of data analysis processes and methodologies.
  • Prepare presentations and summaries of findings for internal teams and clients.
  • Research new data analysis technologies and techniques to enhance capabilities.
  • Engage in training and mentorship programs to rapidly develop technical and professional skills.
  • Assist in the validation and testing of analytical models.
  • Support the development of data-driven strategies for client projects.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Data Science, or a related discipline, graduated within the last 12-24 months.
  • Strong academic record demonstrating analytical aptitude.
  • Foundational understanding of statistical analysis and data modeling concepts.
  • Proficiency in at least one data analysis programming language (e.g., Python, R) and SQL.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving data landscapes.
  • Previous internship experience in a data-related role is a plus but not required.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

The Community Translational Research Institute (CTRI) brings together key institutions and individuals from the public and private sectors, including academic, public health and community medicine institutions, as well as neighborhood schools and community-based organizations for the prevention of chronic diseases. CTRI transforms population health practice through translation of prevention science into community-based programs and sustained practice and policy. The founding CTRI partners include leaders of the Claremont Graduate University School of Community and Global Health, the County of Riverside, the Inland Empire Health Plan, and the University of California Riverside School of Medicine.

Heluna Health invites applicants to apply for the position of part-time IT/Data Analyst to support the Enhanced Care Management (ECM) team at CTRI. This role focuses on organizing and analyzing program data, supporting GIS-based outreach mapping, managing EHR-related technical support, and maintaining data infrastructure. The Data Analyst will help ensure CTRI’s care coordination and outreach strategies are data-informed and responsive to community needs. The role also includes resolving program IT issues in coordination with Heluna Health’s IT department.

This is a part time (20 hours per week), non-benefited position. Employment is provided by Heluna Health 

The pay rate for this role is $27.00- $30.00 per hour. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design and maintain GIS-based maps and dashboards using tools like Google Maps, Tableau, or ArcGIS to support ECM outreach, identify community resources, visualize service gaps, and inform strategic planning.
  • Manage and organize datasets for ECM tracking and reporting, ensure data integrity, assist with data cleaning and formatting, and prepare files for secure transfer to partners such as IEHP and Heluna Health.
  • Provide support for eClinicalWorks by assisting with access setup, user roles, and troubleshooting, while helping CTRI staff with navigation, data entry, and resolving system-related issues.
  • Support ECM team members in effectively using Care Director by offering guidance on functionality and resolving access or permission issues in coordination with IEHP and Heluna Health.
  • Assist with periodic updates to CTRI’s website content using WordPress or similar tools, ensuring timely and accurate information is shared with stakeholders.
  • Maintain organized data repositories for ECM activities, generate routine reports from collected datasets, and support the development of simple tracking tools or templates to help the care team monitor performance metrics and client outcomes.
  • Other duties assigned. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience 

  • Strong organizational skills, including an ability to manage multiple work projects simultaneously, track project details, and meet deadlines.  
  • Strong technical skills with Microsoft excel and experience with database management (e.g., Electronic Health Record Systems) preferred.  
  • Ability to attend meetings, provide training, technical assistance, and other job-related duties in locations throughout Southern California and have reliable transportation to carry out essential functions.  

Certificates/Licenses/Clearances

  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Successfully background check clearance. 

Other Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Experience with GIS or mapping tools (Google Maps, Tableau, ArcGIS, etc.).
  • Familiarity with EHR systems and health data workflows.
  • Comfortable managing datasets, file structures, and secure data transfers (SFTP).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
  • Experience in healthcare, public health, or nonprofit data environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with WordPress or web editing tools is a plus.
  • Proficient skill set in using an array of Microsoft Office Suite software programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe Reader, One Note, Outlook, Publisher, Teams, Outlook, Zoom etc.
  • Able to multi-task and set workload priorities for time sensitive projects/tasks.
  • Able to communicate with all levels of personnel, e.g., written, verbal, in a professional and concise/clear manner; ability to work within a project team and/or independently.
  • Ability to be flexible in meeting changing work tasks and timelines; must be dependable and reliable.
