Responsible for field activities associated with the project, including supervision of all field construction work by electrical, mechanical, and controls subcontractors / trades and self-performed work. Keep in constant contact with Subcontractors to ensure timely work to keep project on time / within budget. Ensures equipment purchased is in onsite at the project when needed. Shares responsibility with the construction project manager for developing and keeping to the project budget, actively participating in the preconstruction phase, and ensuring that the project is built on time, within budget, and according to company policies and procedures. Manages and mentors assistant Supers and Coordinators and other field personnel. Maintains a relentless focus on meeting and exceeding customer needs and expectations through the life of the project.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain liaison with primary client, A/E firm, Owner's Rep firm, Construction Project Manager, subcontractors and any other vendors needed to facilitate construction activities at the data center job site
- Establishes and manages the critical work environment project objectives, performance standards, planning and Methods of Procedure and be within boundaries of corporate policies to ensure minimization of human error factors which could cause down time during work processes
- Provides leadership of all field related MEP mission critical work activities and coordinates with Construction Project Manager and Subcontractors for proper execution
- Keeps all relative parties informed of project's progress throughout the life of the project
- Detailed understanding of all MEP systems to include size up, costs, scheduling timeline, quality control focus points, system start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, etc.
- Manage vendors to ensure that the equipment gets properly installed and commissioned. Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems, and Control Systems installation, integration, and get them energized.
- Ensures that project site and company assets are secure and maintains a safe and respectful working environment at all times by implementing programs for safety / OSHA, Equal Employment Opportunity / EEO, risk management, training, and quality control
- Confirms that extra charges from subcontractors/suppliers are reasonable and work is correctly executed. Coordinates with project manager for approval on extra charges
- Facilitates weekly project progress and safety meetings with all subcontractor representatives and coordinates the upcoming week's work to be accomplished. Attends all progress meetings with the owner's rep / data center construction Project manager
- Ensures that the project closeout process is finalized, demobilize all resources, and transition the project to the client
- 8+ years of data center / critical facilities MEP construction experience. (project size, scope, and complexity the years of experience will also be a large factor)
- Experience working for a General Contractor or Trade
- Detailed understanding of Mechanical and Electrical systems to include integrated testing, MOPs/ SOPs of installation, functionality and troubleshooting; etc.
- Experience in directing and/or supporting the commissioning effort
- Willingness to travel 50-75%
- Demonstrates solid presentation, verbal, written and communication skills
- Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Project, Timberline, etc.)
- Previous administrative experience managing change orders, billing, creating reports, etc.
- Previous experience in the Military / Military Veterans a huge plus! Experience with Electrical / Mechanical: Navy nukes - EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force - Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, etc.

Title: Data Center Technical (MEP) Project Manager
EdgeConneX is looking for a Technical Project Manager to provide hands-on support and oversight for the planning, reporting, design, and deployment of Data Center construction projects in Austin, TX and across North America. We are seeking a technically savvy self-starter who can support multi-disciplinary teams in delivering projects on time, on budget, and within specifications. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Program Management working within our PMO. This is a hybrid based role that requires onsite presence and project management leadership in Austin, TX to start, but could require travel up to 20% domestically to support other projects, attend training, and other company initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with construction management firms and general contractors to deliver assigned projects on time and within budget.
- Understand customer requirements and ensure they are met in accordance with the lease agreement/contract.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all internal and external stakeholders, construction deliverables, communicating directly with customers to foster and maintain a high level of customer service.
- Provide regular project updates, dashboards, and executive-level reporting on project and schedule progress with site photos. Interface with project stakeholders at both working team and executive levels.
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure company goals are met, including hosting weekly progress meetings.
- Utilize technical expertise to identify, mitigate, and resolve project-related issues.
- Proactively identify and mitigate project risks, interdependencies, and potential schedule or cost impacts.
- Monitor construction activities to verify adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and safety protocols
- Ability to manage complex, multi-million-dollar projects/programs that require detailed planning, execution, and front-line support to both vendors and high-profile clients.
- Ability to engage clients onsite and virtually at highest level, leading discussions that have an emphasis on setting expectations that can be difficult at times
- Serve as a "marriage counselor" managing stakeholders in efforts to put out fires and not start new ones
- Distinct ability to read the room, understanding when to take charge or refocus the team
- Strong technical skills in areas such as electrical and mechanical engineering, data center infrastructure, and networking. For example, direct ability to interpret MEP drawings.
- Familiarity with installation of critical infrastructure (MEP, IT, security, power, cooling) and data center products and services.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Project/Primavera, PowerPoint, and Excel.

The Development Project Manager (MEP Data Cener Construction) is primarily responsible for leading and managing the design, preconstruction and construction activities on a given project(s). The Project Manager (MEP Data Center Construction) will interact on a daily basis with Facilities, Contractors, Designers, Engineers, Commissioning Agents, Vendors, and Data Center Operations staff and should have both written and oral communication skills commensurate with this level of regular communication.
What You Will Do:

Manage multiple projects on a campus(es) and maintain updated budgets, schedules, and status reports for each
-
Create and communicate updates on development program & project status on a monthly basis suitable for executive level reviews. Effectively present information in a manner to support efficient decision making
-
Work with QTS stakeholders, design, and construction teams to create a master development program for site(s), including a complete campus design solution and capital budget.

Manage entitlement and permitting needs for each assigned site project(s)
-
Implement and manage multi-phased site development plans to achieve time, budget, and quality standards in a predictable fashion. Continuously update a campus master plan to provide predictable statistics in a dynamic environment

Write scopes of work for design, construction, commissioning services & participate in procurement and project cost estimates
-
Evaluate and level pricing proposals for design, construction, and commissioning services
-
Work closely with strategic procurement team on equipment procurement and delivery process
-
Ensure appropriate submittals are coordinated with site stakeholders
-
Monitor & create project budget / cost-to-date against overall project budget.

Establish project schedules and manage teams to on-time completion
-
Review and approve monthly pay applications from the contractors
-
Review change order requests from contractors and negotiate pricing
-
Establish site construction security procedures in conjunction with site security team

Develop plans for product deployment and review / communicate plans with QTS staff involved

Collaborate with Sales Engineers and Product teams to aid in custom deal solutioning for prospective clients within the applicable schedule and budget for an assigned location.

Establish and maintain relationships serving as liaison with key QTS stakeholders

Represent QTS Interests as leader in OAC meetings

Create & build relationships that enhance QTS's ability to be a leader in creating the World's Most Valuable Data Center Real Estate

Aid in due diligence efforts for potential new sites on an as-needed basis
-
Work with the internal development team to enhance project management processes and protocols
What You Will Need to be Successful (basic qualifications):

Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent professional experience

Five or more years of professional experience in commercial construction practices and procedures, including management of Lump Sum, Construction Management @ Risk, and Design Build project delivery methods from conceptual development through procurement to close out

Experience with Microsoft Office suite, specifically PowerPoint for use in communicating program updates to executive level, and Excel to create and maintain site program & individual project budgets

Be able to travel up to 50% of the time

**Who You Are:**

About The Role
The MEP Project Manager will be responsible for profitably managing all administrative and field construction activities to quality standards while maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders. This individual may oversee multiple medium-sized projects, a single large project, or a defined scope on a large, complex build. The role requires extensive travel and a proven ability to lead teams, manage MEP scopes, and deliver results in fast-paced environments.
Responsibilities
- Construct projects in accordance with plans, specifications, schedule, and quality standards
- Lead subcontractors and field staff to ensure safety, productivity, and collaboration
- Manage project safety in alignment with company safety policies and standards
- Work closely with Project Executives and Superintendents to oversee schedule, budget, and staffing
- Develop and maintain project schedules using scheduling software; prepare two-week look-ahead schedules
- Assist with subcontractor buyout and selection for MEP trades
- Review and enforce contract terms, obligations, and scope requirements
- Ensure project documents are accurate, complete, and compliant (submittals, RFIs, logs, closeout, etc.)
- Recommend strategies to reduce costs, improve schedules, mitigate risks, and enhance quality
- Maintain consistent communication with owners, designers, engineers, and subcontractors
- Mentor and develop team members to build capability and strengthen project delivery
Qualifications
- 3+ years of extensive field and project management experience within Data Center construction
- Strong background in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or building commissioning
- Quality control experience
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop others in a construction environment
Skills
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to analyze MEP systems and assess cost, schedule, and constructability impacts
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with attention to detail
- Negotiation skills and strong business acumen for building client and trade relationships
Technology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
