We’re seeking a future team member in the role of  Data Governance Risk & Compliance Data Leader  to join our DATA ENGINEERING  team. This role is in Pittsburgh, PA or Lake Mary, FL.

As a Data Leader - you will lead a team of data professionals to establish a robust Data Governance framework and drive data quality throughout BNY. You will be a very influential position within EDM and will have the opportunity to drive tremendous business value as we look to improve the data quality of our most critical data. You will be accountable and own the enterprise data quality process, the performance of that process and the resource and technology plan to support this process. As a Data Governance Lead, you will work very closely with the Data Leaders and Stewards across the BNY to ensure compliance to Policy, while robust DQ monitoring is in place and appropriate attention to issue remediation applied.

As part of Data Engineering, our Divisional Data Officer team is responsible for design, delivery and adoption of many of the enterprise Data Governance processes including Data Quality Management, Issue Management and Remediation, Data Lineage Management, Data Catalog Management, Business Glossary Management, etc. 

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Overseeing the data stewardship program ensuring the quality, integrity, and governance of critical data assets across Risk and Finance organization
  • Lead a team of data stewards, define data stewardship policies and process, and collaborate with stakeholder to drive data management sustainability and excellence 
  • Define data stewardship roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities and establish clear guidelines for data stewardship activities and workflows
  • Collaborate with business unites, data owners, and data custodians to identify critical data assets, define data quality requirements, and establish data quality metrics and KPIs.
  • Establish data quality monitoring processes and tools to detect, measure, and report on data quality issues and anomalies
  • Lead the resolution of data quality issues, working cross -functionally to identify root cause, implement corrective action and prevent recurrence. 
  • Develop and maintain data lineage documentation and mappings to support data governance, regulatory, compliance, and data lineage analysis activities
  • Collaborate with data management teams, including data architecture, data engineering, and metadata management to ensure alignment and integration of data stewardship activities in accordance with enterprise data management policies and standards.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on data stewardship best practices, methodologies, and tools an provide guidance and support to stakeholders across Risk and Finance. 

 To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: 

  • Experienced hands-on Data and Metadata Management, from concept to implementation with a demonstrable track record of delivery.
  • 10-15 years of total work experience with at least 3-5 years in a management preferred. Experience over operational activities (business analysis, testing, etc.), reference data and/or enterprise data management or data governance preferred.
  • Strong stakeholder management and people skills, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities under pressure. You will have strong analytical and management skills, are familiar with Agile methodology and played an active role in scrums such as backlog refinement, sprint planning and execution. The ability to apply backlog prioritization to define sprint goals and enable iterative deliveries is key.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality management concepts, and regulatory requirements (e.g. BCBS 239, GDPR)
  • Experience with data governance tooling and technologies, data profiling, data cleansing, and data remediation techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex data issues and drive effective solutions
  • People Leadership, be able to inspire and build momentum across a global team but you are also a team player, happy to roll up your sleeves when needed.

Position Purpose:

We are hiring a Director of Data Governance to lead our enterprise-wide data governance program. Reporting to the CDO, this role will drive the creation and execution of policies, standards, and controls that ensure trusted, compliant, and secure data usage-across internal domains and external partnerships. You'll work cross-functionally with Cybersecurity, TPRM (Third-Party Risk Management), Legal, Privacy, Risk, and Platform teams , and help build scalable governance with a strong focus on data and AI governance .

This role will be responsible for creating the policies, roadmap, and control structure that effectively manage cost and risk while setting the foundation to unlock the full value of data -enabling growth, operational speed, and margin expansion.
Primary duties will include:
  • Design and implement a data governance framework and operating model that balances control and enablement.
  • Develop policies around data quality, classification, access, retention, and AI/ML usage .
  • Collaborate with Cybersecurity and TPRM to govern entitlements, third-party sharing, and risk controls.
  • Lead AI governance efforts to ensure responsible use of models and training data.
  • Partner with architecture, platform and engineering teams to operationalize governance using tools like Unity Catalog (Databricks) and enterprise data catalogs.
  • Drive adoption of metadata management, lineage, and stewardship practices .

Qualifications

To land this role you will need:

CLA is growing and seeking to hire an experienced Data Governance Senior to join our talented Information Technology team. The position offers growth, flexibility and a collaborative work environment.

This role leads data governance initiatives and ensures data quality and compliance.

How you'll create opportunities in this Data Governance Senior role:
  • Lead the implementation of data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Monitor data quality and ensure adherence to data governance practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address data quality and data governance issues and implement solutions.
  • Manage data governance projects and initiatives.
  • Build and maintain data dictionaries, data rules, and metadata repositories.
  • Facilitate data governance training and awareness programs.
  • Support business data stewards in defining business glossaries and taxonomy/hierarchies
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members.
  • Create metrics and KPIs to measure governance program success.
What you will need:
  • 4 years of relevant experience required.
    • Experience in data governance or data management preferred.
  • Experience with Data Governance tools such a Colilbra, Informatica Axon, Ataccama, Microsoft Purview.
  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of relevant experience and training may be considered in lieu of a degree.
    • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field is preferred
Certifications / Licenses:
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) preferred
Technical Competencies:
  • Familiarity with data governance tools and technologies.
  • Experience with Data Governance tools such as Colilbra, Informatica Axon, Ataccama, Microsoft Purview.
  • Experience with data profiling, cleansing, and monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of privacy, and security, and other regulatory requirements such as GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, SOX, etc. regulations and their impact on data governance.
  • Experience with data architecture, data modeling, crosswalks, and mappings.
  • Familiarity with Azure, AWS, or GCP data services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Snowflake).
  • Proficiency in SQL to query, review, and validate data.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, policies, and best practices (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK), data stewardship, and ownership models.

Job Summary

An AFL Data Governance Analyst plays a critical role in advancing data excellence within a defined business domain by ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of enterprise master data. This role acts as a subject matter expert and facilitator, collaborating with data owners, SMEs, and governance councils to drive data quality, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Data Analyst is both a strategic and hands-on role responsible for enabling better business decisions through trusted data.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and validate product and manufacturing data domains, including product attributes & hierarchies, bills of material (BOM), planning parameters, and key transaction dates/status.
  • Perform regular data quality checks, identify errors, and execute corrections according to established governance processes.
  • Monitor KPIs and metrics related to data completeness, accuracy, and timeliness; escalate systemic issues to the Data Governance Lead.
  • Support root-cause analysis for recurring data issues and recommend process or system improvements.
  • Collaborate with Data Stewards to align data maintenance activities with business rules and governance standards.
  • Document and maintain procedures for data entry, cleansing, and validation.
  • Provide ad-hoc data extracts, reports, and analyses to support planning, supply chain, and operations teams.
  • Support master data migration or transformation activities during system upgrades or new implementations.

Qualifications
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in business, data management, supply chain, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1-3 years of experience in data analysis and master data management, preferably in a supply chain or manufacturing environment preferred or strong Internship or Co-op experience required.
