About The Role
As a Software Engineer on the Platform Visualization team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining the full-stack visualization tools that are essential for analyzing the software and hardware aspects of OpenAI’s hyperscale supercomputers. - Strong experience in full-stack software development, with a focus on building scientific or infrastructure visualization tools.
- Proficiency in both front-end and back-end programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, SQL, or similar.
- Familiar with front-end technologies like React and back-end technologies like Node.js, and databases like Snowflake.
- Experience with visualization libraries and frameworks (e.g., Plotly, Grafana).
- Strong understanding of full-stack architecture, design principles, and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Bonus: Prior experience technically leading a team of 4+ engineers, as this is a 0-1 effort with team growth on the horizon

Job Summary
We are seeking a Data Visualization Engineer with an active Secret clearance to design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards and data visualizations that support mission-critical decision-making. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in modern BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik) and have a strong grasp of data modeling, storytelling, and presenting complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences. This role will work closely with analysts, data engineers, and leadership to transform raw data into actionable insights.

Some of these are, but are not limited to, adhering to normal working hours, meeting deadlines, following company policies as outlined by the Employee Handbook, communicating regularly with assigned supervisor(s), and staying focused on the assigned tasks including company meetings, and completing other tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities:- Design and build interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik
- Gather requirements and work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and data goals
- Clean, transform, and model data for visualization and decision-making
- Optimize dashboard performance and ensure data integrity and accuracy
- Translate complex datasets into clear, compelling, and actionable visual stories
- Support data governance, metadata management, and documentation efforts
- Ensure compliance with federal data policies, classification, and security protocols
- Collaborate with developers, analysts, and security personnel to ensure secure and scalable data solutions
- Active Secret clearance (must be verifiable at time of hire)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or related field
- 3-5+ years of professional experience in data visualization or BI development
- Proficiency with one or more visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, D3.js )
- Strong SQL skills and understanding of data querying and transformation
- Experience working with relational databases, APIs, or data warehouses
- Understanding of data security and access controls in secure environments
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present data to non-technical audiences
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered
- Experience supporting DoD, federal government, or intelligence community projects
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Knowledge of data storytelling , UI/UX best practices , or human-centered design
- Certifications such as Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate , Tableau Desktop Specialist , Security+ , or Certified Analytics Professional (CAP)

DATA VISUALIZATION ENGINEER at VSolvit

Position Summary

We seek an accomplished Data Visualisation Lead with advanced expertise in Power BI or Sigma to spearhead our BI initiatives. In this role, you will design and implement comprehensive BI solutions and ensure that our data-driven strategies align with business goals. Your leadership will be pivotal in enhancing our data visualisation capabilities and ensuring that actionable insights are readily available to support strategic decisions.
Position Responsibilities
- Define BI strategy and roadmap for BI initiatives that align with organisational goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with senior leadership and stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable BI solutions.
- Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that meet business requirements and implement best Power BI report development practices, including data modelling, DAX expressions, and visualisation techniques.
- Leverage Power BI Copilot to accelerate dashboard creation, improve data explanations, and integrate natural language queries.
- Train business users and data analysts on effective use of Copilot for self-service BI.
- Design prompt templates and workflows to integrate Copilot with Power BI, Excel, Teams, and other Microsoft 365 services.
- Provide governance for AI-assisted insights to ensure trust, accuracy, and ethical use of Copilot-generated content.
- Ensure data privacy and security compliance in line with organizational policies and industry standard
- Optimize Power BI performance, including data refresh schedules and query performance. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Power BI reports dashboards, and data connections.
- Leverage your programming expertise to customise and implement visualisations, ensuring optimal performance and responsiveness.
- Oversee changes to dashboards and reports. Ensure proper documentation, testing, and communication of changes related to the visualisations.
- Track usage metrics and drive adoption. Develop self-service features, user manuals and training programs to democratise the data.
- Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in data visualisation, recommending and implementing innovative solutions to enhance our capabilities.
 
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or a related field, strongly emphasising Power BI.
- Proven experience in leading BI projects and managing cross-functional teams.
- Advanced proficiency in Singma, Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, PowerBI CoPilot, MS Copilot, and related tools, including Power Query, DAX, and Power BI Report Server.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical stakeholders clearly and effectively.
- Experience with data governance and security best practices.
 
- Certification in data visualisation, design, user experience, or related fields.
- In-depth knowledge of data analysis techniques and the ability to distil complex data into visually compelling narratives.
- Experience with SQL and relational databases, including designing and optimizing complex queries.
- Should have a good sense of aesthetics and user experience principles.
- Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Detail-oriented with a passion for creating visually stunning and user-friendly interfaces.
- Experience implementing natural language query interfaces or conversational analytics solutions.
- Strategic mindset and the ability to identify opportunities to use data to drive business growth. You should be able to think creatively and identify innovative solutions to complex problems.
 
The pay for this role in the state of Illinois ranges from $112,000 - $40,000 and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location. Actual pay within this range may be determined based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and/or other determining factors.
