On our team, we lead product management for the Engine and Platforms portfolio — the heart of Teradata’s technology stack. You will also collaborate with solution architects, sales engineering, and customer success to ensure that database product capabilities directly address enterprise requirements. Externally, you will engage with enterprise customers, ecosystem partners, and industry influencers to guide product-market fit and represent Teradata as a thought leader in the next generation of database innovation.

This position reports to the VP, Product Management, Engine and Platforms and serves as a key member of the Product Management leadership team.

The Data Engineer – Data Modeling will design and implement data models for applications and related systems, translating business needs into logical and physical data models. Reporting to the Senior Vice President / General Manager, the Lead Data Modeling Engineer (Azure) is responsible for the architecture, design, development and deployment of data modeling and reporting capabilities utilizing Microsoft Azure Analysis Services, Azure Databricks and Microsoft Power BI software platforms. The role is part of our Enterprise Data Platform team that manages the ingestion, storage, modeling, and consumption of data for Acosta and our clients. The Lead Modeling Engineer is also accountable for the optimization and automation of those BI solutions within Acosta's Enterprise Data Platform.

Ideal candidates may be located in Jacksonville, FL; Dallas, TX; Rogers, AR; St. Louis, MO; Chicago, IL; or Charlotte, NC, however open to other candidates in EST or CST time zones

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development of complex/advanced Azure Analysis Services (AAS) Tabular models with large volumes of data and advanced business logic, as well as enhancements to existing large/advanced AAS models.

  • Creation of complex and efficient views in Azure Databricks to support AAS Tabular modeling requirements.

  • Work closely with Project Managers / Scrum Masters, BI Architects, BI QA Analysts and Data Engineering Developers in both Agile and Waterfall work settings to deliver solutions against a deadline that meet the requirements of the business and product stakeholders.

  • Performance monitoring, tuning and optimization of AAS and PBI models.

  • Mentors Junior and Senior Data Modelers in PBI and AAS development, specifically surrounding optimization, and automation.

  • Investigate new and emerging technologies with potential uses for Microsoft and other BI technologies by researching, POC'ing and sharing solutions within the Data Platform team that will help drive efficiency and innovation for our business and product stakeholders.

  • Continually focus on self-development by allocating time to continually develop your BI, modeling, and data skills.

  • Automation and scheduling/triggering of data refreshes for the AAS models.

  • Investigate new and emerging technologies with potential uses and impacts for the Data Platform and Acosta as a whole.

  • Provisioning and sizing of AAS resources.

  • In addition to model development, there will also be occasions where new complex/advanced Power BI reports, as well as enhancements to existing complex/advanced Power BI reports will require development

  • Familiarize yourself with Acosta's services (namely Retail, Headquarter Selling) - along with the data solutions (NARS, POS, CPG Syndicated) that support those services.

  • Think critically about the data model solutions you're delivering. You need to understand it and expand its implications beyond the numbers alone. As a critical thinker, you can think analytically about modeling data and BI, identifying patterns and extracting actionable insights and information from the data made available to you.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in industry name required.

  • Microsoft Certification: Data Analyst Associate.

  • MCSA: BI Reporting.

  • Microsoft Certification: Azure Data Engineer Associate.

  • 10 years of related work experience.

  • 7 years of experience in Microsoft SSAS, AAS and data warehouse design for Business Intelligence.

  • 5 years of experience with data analytics and various report development software.

  • 5 years of experience in Power BI including M Query and DAX development.

  • Experience working with ETL tools such as Azure Databricks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expert in Power BI, inclusive of the Vertipaq storage engine (compression/segmentation), performance measurement and monitoring, analyzing query plans, advanced optimization of large models.

  • An advanced understanding of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) foundations and best practices as it relates to optimizing data and reporting.

  • Advanced proficiency in AAS (or SSAS) tabular models, inclusive of loading data, relationships, and modeling, analyzing query plans, security, processing, and partitioning.

  • A solid foundation in Azure Databricks including navigation within workspaces, querying notebooks, usage of gateways and DSNs.

  • Good problem solving and debugging skills.
