What Skills and Experience Does a Successful UDA Hygienist Have?
- Current state license to practice dental hygiene
- The confidence and ability to educate patients on their unique oral health needs and desires
- Strong communication skills
- A desire to embrace preventative centered care
- The ability to perform all hygiene clinical procedures, including (but not limited to) adult and child prophylaxis, non-surgical periodontal therapy, sealants, and fluoride
Hygienists are also expected to maintain annual OSHA, HIPAA, CPR, and infection control trainings as required by law.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties of the position.

- Oversee the preparation of dental models from impressions taken by yourself or other dental staff.
- Supervise professional, technical, and administrative staff.
- Maintain patient records through thorough treatment documentation and progress notes.
- Collaborate with other dental team members to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Stay updated on the latest developments in dentistry through continuing education and professional growth.
- Effectively manage dental emergencies.
- Enhance the functionality and aesthetics of patients' teeth using modern tools and techniques.
**Requirements**
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited dental school.
- Valid state dental license (or eligibility to obtain one) and malpractice insurance.
- Minimum of three years of experience in a dental practice, including performing advanced procedures.
- Excellent understanding of dental surgery procedures and diagnostics.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with patients.
- Commitment to quality patient care and service excellence.
- Capable of managing multiple cases with professionalism and compliance.
- Well-versed in the latest dental technologies and open to embracing new techniques.
- Ability to handle and diffuse potentially tense situations with patients calmly and effectively.
