Overview

Join our team as a Mobile Dental Support Specialist, where you will play a vital role in providing dental care to patients in long-term care facilities. You will be responsible for supporting the dental team, maintaining clinical records, and ensuring the cleanliness and functionality of medical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist with patient care in a friendly and efficient manner.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and medical histories through electronic medical records systems.
• Ensure documentation integrity and update patient odontograms with each encounter.
• Prepare and pass instruments and supplies to the dentist during procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness of the treatment area by proper evacuation, washing, isolating, drying, and illumination.
• Provide feedback and collaborate with the branch office to optimize dental schedules and reporting.
• Manage patient flow during facility visits and assist with wheelchair mobility.
• Generate daily production reports and provide these to the dentist at the end of each visit.
• Post dental charges accurately and in a timely manner to the correct provider.
• Care for and clean all medical equipment, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate maintenance as needed.
• Regularly inspect the vehicle’s exterior and interior, performing basic maintenance tasks such as oil changes and lighting replacements.
• Inventory dental supplies, anticipate needs, and place orders accordingly.
• Prepare supplies efficiently, minimizing waste.
• Conduct preventive maintenance to ensure all dental equipment operates smoothly and per manufacturer instructions.
• Assist the dentist with diagnostics by taking and processing digital dental radiographs.
• Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and ensure a positive dental experience for all.
• Adhere to OSHA and HIPAA guidelines while providing exceptional customer service.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and staff.
• Respond promptly to patient inquiries, documenting interactions in the EMR.
• This position requires travel up to 100% of the time, within a 2.5 hour radius.
• Participate in compliance training and report any suspicions of law and policy violations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Experience as a Medical/Dental Assistant preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are a must.
• Completed two-step Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Test is required.
• Hepatitis B vaccination is preferred.
• Must possess a state radiation license or certificate.
• Proficient computer skills with medical terminology experience are essential.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Ability to follow directions and respond to the needs of patients and doctors.

Physical Demands

   Review patient charts prior to doctor arrival, document appropriate patient information and health history during the exam and treatment, ensure all patient consents are completed prior to treatment.

   Four Handed Dentistry- fabricate temporary crowns, place rubber dam, place amalgam and composite restorations, assist with seating permanent/removable prosthodontics, coronal polishing, sealant placement.

   Ability to take, develop and mount accurate, high quality radiographs/intra-oral photos.

   Clean, sterilize and prepare the equipment and operatory, prior to and after a patient's appointment.

   Track the incoming and outgoing lab cases, monitor and order dental supplies.

   Maintain patient confidentiality through HIPAA compliance, follow safety policies and procedures through OSHA compliance and BBP (Blood-borne Pathogens) Ability to multi-task and remain calm in a rapidly changing environment.

   Assist in educating the patients and address their questions and/or concerns to help them feel more comfortable.

   Assist the business administrative team in scheduling patients and submitting referrals as clinically necessary.

   Computer proficiency and the ability to learn new programs.

 Education/Certification(s)

• Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required
• Current radiography certification required.
• Active Dental Assistant/ CDA/ EFDA/ EDDA/ QDA license, as required by state
• Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR- BLS) preferred
• Current certification to monitor Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Analgesia preferred as required by state, or ability to become certified.

Serving children for almost 20 years, our Big Smiles Mission is to bring dental care to students in schools, in the most comfortable and effective way.

In this role, you will be traveling to schools in Los Angeles County giving short oral health presentations to children in grades PK-5, while distributing consent forms from classroom to classroom. You will also be interacting with teachers, nurses, and other school staff.

Oral Health Educators are asked to visit schools:

• Daily travel within Los Angeles County – up to 100 miles round trip.
